UPDATE: LOST TRUST | The fall of the Marlboro County Sheriff

'FINAL DISRESPECTS' Updates: Since we launched our 'Final Disrespects' investigation into the Marlboro County criminal justice system back in August 2021, more than 20,000 people have joined this page. That's not including the more than 100,000 subscribers to our Queen City News page over that time.
This hour-long special we produced to end the year will take you from the beginning to the most recent update to this investigation. The latest report we aired happened in October 2023.
Some of you have seen the beginning of this, but some haven't. None of us, though, has seen the end of all of this just yet.

I'd go to Jody Barr first just in case something happened to me. The Civil Rights Lawyer sent something in to the FBI awhile back and someone there snitched and told the person who was being reported on. I'm not saying they're all like that, but sometimes you gotta be extra careful.

@@TheBandit7613 Here in the UK a few years ago my local police force went into what we call 'Special Measures' where the Home Office is basically sent to sort out the mess and go through the books. Over £150K of drugs were missing and unaccounted for from the evidence locker. No serving officer or commander was ever punished or reprimanded. The Home Office's response was essentially 'Ah well, too late to go looking for it now. You guys be more careful with logging evidence in future!' Oh, and several people during this time were convicted for selling or trafficking drugs despite the fact that the police literally could not produce the evidence for the courts because it had gone 'missing' from the evidence locker. I work in a small village store where the police know they can hide out in their cars away from the public's prying eyes so they can spend a few hours per shift eating, playing on their phones, even having a nap, and I cannot tell you the amount of officers I've served who are unmistakably under the influence of hard drugs whilst on duty. I'm talking rings-of-white-powder-around-their-nostrils obvious. The whole thing is a casserole of nonsense. We need our own Jody Barr!

My mom took me for doctor exam next day and that was as traumatic as the abuse. Doctor saw "evidence" of sexual assault such as abrasions etc but charges were not pressed. Don't know why. My guess is this relative was taking care of elderly mother. If gr uncle was jailed my grandpa would gave had to care for her then....no nursing homes back then. I got professional counselling in my late 20's 30's and support groups. Very helpful and some counselling if you don't have insurance can be based on income. Just have to reach out and ask. Best thing I ever did for myself. By then I had husband and 2 kids. My relationships were kinda a mess. I attribute this to the abuse. I'm 71 now. There isn't always family support with this but don't let that stop you! It helped me a lot! You may need to try more than one or two counselors or doctors to find one you're comfortable with. Best of luck!

A couple weeks ago my brother was in the hospital on his death bed. When my out of state brother and his low life daughter found out they rushed to his bedside with an internet will, two witnesses, a notary and had my incoherent brother sign everything over him as sole beneficiary. He even wrote my dying brother’s two children out of the will and never mentioned his sister or two brothers. There is not a damn thing we can do about it without spending tens of thousands on an attorney. Who knew that the first person to make a will and rush to the bedside of a dying brother is the one to get everything, and basically legally according to the law.

@@Notfiveo0 I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. Use what's happened as a cautionary note to *not* wait to go to an attorney to assist with making a Living Trust/Will. If you have anything you want a particular relative or friend to have let your attorney know *before* signing a Living Trust/Will. You may even want to give items of your relative(s) now. You have to do this while your still clear of mind alright? Your attorney will have it Notarized. Finally, talk to your primary about end of life care. You need to do this because during an illness you may be not have the capability to talk. Do you want extreme measures taken to continue your life, possibly in a nursing home? I worked in nursing for 13 years and witnessed many messy endings. Take what happened to your brother as a cautionary but true story. On another note, don't sign over your house, talk to your attorney about it because who you think is a loving caring relative could evict you.

What this really highlights for me is the depth of the corruption. Multiple departments and multiple staff knew about this and contributed to the cover-up. It isn't just the officials shown. It is the administrators, friends and family of the officials, and others that must have known or had reasonable articulable suspicion. There were no whistle blowers using official channels before this press investigation aired. The confident and open manner that the house was plundered in broad daylight indicates this was a routine event. Each person involved had to know and rely on the others not to blow the whistle. The corruption appears to extend to SLED. This is systemic organised corruption at its worst.

Give someone a little power and you’ll see their true character. It’s all part of the “Good Ol’ Boys” mentality where you take care of your own, no matter the circumstances. Small town/small county corruption is scary. Most everyone knows it’s happening, but no one wants to talk about it even if it happens to them out of fear of retaliation. If Mr. Slade’s extended family hadn’t raised any alarms, none of this would have been brought to light.
