my sync has a black screen, will this fix the issue, ive tried soft rest, hard reset, but not this

I tried to update my sync 3 same as yours but get error code LST ERR05 . tells me to download files again and retry install Ive tried 3 times keep getting same error code using a 16gb pen drive formatted to ex FAT any ideas

So what do I do if the 'Updating system software' message just styas the same for 3+hrs until I get bored and turn the engine off and take the USB stick out? The update starts but NEVER finishes? What could be the reason for that?

I'd try downloading the update again and make sure the USB is formatted correctly. Probably then do a master reset of the sync (in settings)

Hi, thx for the tutorial. I didn’t “unpack” the RAR files as the “how to” guide on the Ford site said 3 lines downloaded to a usb was enough? I have 2 files & a folder on my usb, but it didn’t start updating in the car? So I either didn’t wait for it to start updating long enough, or I should “unpack” the RAR files as shown here? There must be an auto “exe” file in that list??

I always un pack the rar file to the usb and have it formatted to exFAT......once unpacked there should be 3 items on the usb stick........the "updating" message can take upto 5 mins to show, if you remove the usb during an update it will tell you, so you can put it back in and it will restart

I have a 2018 Ford transit , put my VIN in downloaded folder, formatted usb to EXFAT, plugged in the van and it doesn’t update ? Do I have to do anything else ?

try doing a factory reset of the sync module via te settings menu and re-assess. Sometimes the downloadmay be corrupt too

Have tried so hard to find an answer, so hopefully you can help - on my ford focus 2017, using the keyboard to type for apple carplay and the sync 3 disables as soon as I start driving, any idea why?

I'd imagine thats possibly normal? so you dont type and drive? Although in UK you can add a satnav destination whilst driving

@@SYDiagnostics unfortunately it’s not normal, every other car I’ve been in that uses CarPlay you can type and drive..

I updated it to to 3.0 version but it got a bit laggy. I did a master reset and a stop/lock and unlock/sturtup procedure and it didnt get better. Any suggestions would be of much help...

If its in the top right of the screen it's a message to say its been updated. Press it and it'll not re appear

yeah its a bit slow compared to another control unit update (except dash board)

@@SYDiagnostics yesterday I installed the Update on my Unit and it was faster than expected. it only took 10 minutes :D

Does the usb have to be empty of everything else but the sync download?... I plug mine in with the sync downloaded but it just spins and says "searching for updates '. Any help appreciated it's driving me bonkers.

@@SYDiagnostics brilliant stuff. Yeah I deleted all the other crap on the flash stick including the original ford download and started a fresh. Downloaded again, extracted then boom it started to up date when I plugged in car. Cheers pal

If you have a 64 GB flash drive does that mean it won't work

thanks for the video. To clarify, once the system has recognised the usb and started the process, is it possible to drive? If so, can I still use maps or android auto for navigation ?

Yes you can still drive, I've never checked if maps work still? I'd imagine android auto will not function during the update

Thankyou for the quick reply. Someone has used my vin to get a download file on the ford website and ford want to charge me to update mine

Mine is just not saying anything no I put the flash drive in and it still doesn’t do anything

you will need to follow the instructions on the download page, make sure your usb stick is formatted to exfat. Also try a master re-set of the unit and re-try

Any free tool like Winrar or Rar will do it

Hi thanks for the video, only issue I had is that after 90 minutes it was still showing as updating, I had to abandon it. Any idea why?

Could be a corrupt download? Try a master reset of the sync unit and try it again

I tried to update mine today and the same problem, I will try again tommorow ? Did you fix yours somehow ? I was waiting to update 2 hours and a half... and after I unplugged the USB it still appeared updating :))

@Henrik Hoppe I got into the car the next day and updated again, it worked, but I kept the sync 3 latest version for 3 days and upgraded to sync 3.4 from cyanlabs

I updated but had to stop after an hr car was still showing updating software I thought it only took 30-40 mins
