Hey guys don’t stress! You’ll get it back I know it feels like a long nightmare but you’ll get it back! I lost mine about 8 days ago and I have now regained it back fully. Smell started kicking back in on day 5. I just kept smelling things and I used the essential oils recommended in this video. Also ate about 2 cloves or garlic a day for about 3/4 days. Drank airborne. In fact my garlic breath was what helped me know I was regaining my smell/ taste back! Hang in there! Try to talk to friends on the phone when feeling out of it or low! Watch a funny show you like, take a nice bath, just ramp up your self care and feel good while you ride this out! You got this!

Thank you Dr. Christy! I lost my sense of smell on the evening of November 8, 2020. I had very congested nose and I have been sneezing nonstop. I know its not my taste because I can determine the food I eat whether if its sweet, salty, spicy, sour etc. But I am unable to distinguish what it REALLY taste like. I was also assuming it was COVID-19 that's why I'm planning on getting myself tested. I've been drinking a lot of water (I did try lemon water as well,) and consuming food rich in zinc and vitaminc C. Due to my congestion, I tried steam inhalation which was pretty helpful. I also did try smelling vix vapor rub at least every hour for 20 seconds and neti pots and saline solutions helped too. I'll say, day 4 and I still can't smell anything. 0%. Not even alcohol, essential/fragrance oil, strong food - nothing! But I remain hopeful. We will be okay! I will probably post some updates soon! God bless you and I pray for your recovery! We can do this guys! UPDATE 1: This is my 6th day and good news! I can smell about 5%. Progress is still progress. Yes, I've been cleaning my nose with saline solutions. I am still continuing the olfactory training and now, I just steam my nose at least 2 times a day. Unfortunately, I can't get myself tested because my parents insisted me that its just sinusitis. My nose isn't as congested as before anymore, the steaming helped a lot. Update2: This is my 8th day and my smell is gradually coming back. Probably around 10-15%. I stopped steam inhalation and the training since I was busy for the past 2 days. For my taste however, I can taste perfectly fine but again, I cant really distinguish the flavor. But yesterday, as I was eating an orange I was able to taste it! This means my retronasal olfactory is also slowly recovering. Update 3: This is probably my third week since I lost my sense of smell. I'd say Im around 20-30% recovered. My main conceen now is I cant taste the flavor of my food sometimes. Sometimes, I can taste it if its too strong but sometimes I domt taste anything at all. I try not to panic because I know I'm recovering. There are times wherein I convince myself that I'll never fully recover, or that my retronasal olfactory is permanetly distorted. But I have hope. Its a slow progress and its okay. Update 4: I lost count to what day I already am but I'd say, I'm feeling quite better. I could smell around 40% now and I could taste about 10%. I still continue olfactory training and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. You will be alright guys, it takes time. Be patient, you will be okay. Update 5: I can smell again! I am not 100% recovered (60-70%) but I know every week I am gradually recovering. I can taste the flavor of my food when eating, I can smell the freshener of my car and I can smell my perfume and alcohol and essential oils! I'm soo happy! Tip, Dr. Christy's video helped a lot. I also recommend steam inhalation and eating mango, orange and a lot of vegetables. And also, never lose hope. Stay positive and don't worry about it too much. If you worry too much, recovery might take a while. You guys can do this! Hope this helps and I hope this gives you hope. Thanks again, Dr. Christy! FINAL UPDATE: Fully recovered.

My sense of smell was gone for about 2 or 3 days. It appears to be coming back now, slowly but surely. My sister had COVID too and said her sense of smell was gone for like 5 days and that her dehumidifier helped her regain her smell... I’ve been doing olfactory training subconsciously and then I stumbled across this video. I’ve been sniffing black coffee, lavender castor oil, dry roasted peanuts, vicks vapor rub, and red wine. And really anything else I can find. The trick I think is finding something that you know exactly what it should smell like... so that you can in essence retrain your brain to smell again. Hope that helps somebody! May you regain your sense of smell speedily! ❤️

Yesterday, I got so frustrated, I ate a few spoons of wassabi. Wassabi always managed to clear up my sinuses in the past, and I'm talking about a tiny amounts. Yesterday, I felt some tingling on my tongue, but no other reaction. Today, I ate some black licorice, a taste I usually can't stand! Nothing.

Update: Yesterday, (day 8) I was able to smell/taste food, but not 100%. Today, it's even better. I was able to smell the smoke coming from our fireplace, something I couldn't do since I lost the smell. I still feel my smell is not 100%, but at least I can taste food.

Everyone please remain hopeful! I had lost my sense of smell completely for 4 full days after testing positive for Covid-19. I started to regain some sense of smell today after losing all my hope of ever regaining it back. Stay positive! And I know eating during this isn’t fun, since you can’t taste much. I just wanna remind everyone to eat! You need the nutrients to get back to full strength. I bought an olfactory training set of scents, and it has already helped me immensely. Hang in there! Dear God I pray for everyone to restore them back to full health and watch over those going thru tough times right now. Amen 🙏🏻

I have always had a stronger sense of smell than most people and I have always fully appreciated it. Like a dog, I have always been able to detect snall changes in people’s odors and could tell when they had a viral infection coming on. I’ve spent years developing my fragrance garden and I have always cooked with a lot of spices and aromatics for over forty years. Today I lost my smell and I could not even smell straight bleach. I wasn’t sure if it was bleach or water in the bottle, so I pulled out my ground cumin, a bag of coffee, and my strongest curry powder and couldn’t smell anything. I have to believe I’ll get it back because, as a lifelong cook and gardner, I rely on my sense of smell.

Hey Dr! Are you seeing any anecdotal evidence that allergies are not as intense following COVID infection with lingering lack of smell? I normally have truly horrific spring allergies, but I’ve sneezed maybe 10 times this entire year so far, even when the pollen count has been very high. I tested positive 2/10, the same day I lost my sense of smell/taste. I still don’t have it back all the way, but I’m probably at 10-25% depending on the day. I just thought it was pretty interesting side-effect, and the only positive one so far. Ha! Thx!

If I did have Covid at some point, I was completely unaware. I had a mild sinus infection in fall 2020 with the only symptoms being congestion and loss of smell. Foods still tasted normal, and I never had a fever or felt bad other than the annoyance of congestion. After a month, everything was back to normal, up until about February. I then noticed many things smelled much different all of a sudden, and it was affecting taste as well. My cherry car freshener smelled awful for a couple of months, and has since returned to normal, but most other things have not come back. Any meat, be it red, white, or fish being cooked smells terrible, and most meat tastes mediocre at best. Almost no fast foods taste good anymore, save for Raising Cane's and Panda Express. I still do not have any other symptoms present other than the fact that most foods smell and taste awful. Perhaps the strangest thing is, all of the foods that now smell and taste bad to me, all smell nearly the exact same, regardless of the type of food. Hamburger smells the same as chicken, both smell the same as fish, and none of it smells good anymore. Some fruits and vegetables smell and taste this way as well to a lesser extent. Most breads share this smell too, all unpleasant. If you have any idea what could've caused this or how I can fix it, please let me know. Sorry for the super long comment, but hopefully I was clear enough about what's going on.

Everything else tastes like a slightly salted water. Im not whole anymore, I have just enough skill to survive without daily assistance but more than once something was smoking/ burning and I had no idea till someone alerted me of the smell
