Does no one notice the fact she's "upcycling" by ruining a candle that had appears to have LOTS of hours of burning left

Probably didn't like the smell. I get stinky candles all the time. I hate vanilla, any food scents, can't stand spice. I perfer perfume, floral, berry scents or Clean scents. But yet I'm constantly gifted the gross cupcake, cotton candy crap. Lol

The wick is burnt all the way down. From brand to brand, the type of wax, glass thickness and diameter, wick type all vary, and from home to home humidity levels and airflow vary. You can have a wick that burns all the way down and plenty of wax left. Could she have melted it down and repoured/rewicked it? Sure. But sometimes waste can also be determined by whether the person wants to use the item for that purpose or not. As someone else stated, she may not have loved the smell but she could also be repurposing the wax for melts or making a smaller candle in another jar or, truly if she does not prefer the scent its not waste to get rid of it. The jar is still being reused. The net “waste” here is not massive.

@TheRealMrsMVP lol it's happens. The issue is they don't stink..like you know, garage...lol butnits just a smell I don't want to smell. Lol like baked cookies..that's delicious but I don't want my whole house smelling that way. I want it to smell fresh and clean. Like maybe rain or a soft rose smell. Laundry or baby powder type smells. So when I get the candles I don't like, I melt then down...very low heat to not burn off the smell. Then I pour them into cute molds, make a cute little decorative baggie and give them as gifts to friends,coworkers teachers. So I kinda like getting the stinky candles cause it saves me money lol

Nah, the wick has fully burnt to the base, the wax on the outside is just leftover wax that didn't get burnt up, this won't light or even burn.

I’m confused what it got up cycled into?

If you freeze it instead the wax pops out in a few minutes and you can resuse it in a wax melter!:)

​@@francescapucciano9205 yeah if you put the whole jar in the freezer, the wax shrinks and pops out. It does take a while though depending on the size; about 10 mins to a couple hours

I was wondering why she didn't just freeze it too. You can also put it in the oven at the lowest temperature then dump the melted wax into little silicone molds. Now you have wax melts.

I dont think you can call this "upcycling". The amount of waste being produced to reuse this far outweighs what is believed to be saved by not throwing the jar in the bin (and before you get on me about "it gets recycled", no it doesn't. A very small amount of the stuff youre recycling actually gets recycled. The majority goes in a landfill. Broke my heart when I first learned the truth about this.... like why bother with the smoke & mirrors to give people the illusion that we are putting in an acceptable effort to recycle, when we aren't? Call it out for what it is)

Freeze it, than use a paring knife to gently split the wax. All comes out in pieces. Faster and you can reuse the wax for candles if you’d like. (If it smells nice, drop the wax in an old stocking toe, tie it off and toss in knickers drawer…. Ol’ skool !! 😀

The freezing method uses a lot less (wasted) water because the frozen wax can be broken up easily in one step. It works so we’ll because the wax will contract way more than the glass will do it separates from the glass on its own. I do appreciate the suggestion of using a pot of boiling water to do this. A lot less water waste.

When you light a candle you need to let it burn until there's a layer of melted wax across the whole top. Otherwise you're going to end up wasting a perfectly good candle and so much time trying to clean half a candle out of a jar.

Thank you, I was just about to comment this! Also, if this does happen due to living in a very cold house (the flame never actually gets hot enough to heat the wax through) and you like the scent you can remove the base of the wick, and then just take either the stump of a regular light (drop a few drops of melted wax at the bottom to make it stick upright) or pop a tealight out of the metal holder and stick it in there. The heat from the flame will heat the wax enough to melt some and give of the scent, and as you keep doing it eventually you will use up all of the wax. If you use a regular candle stick tho, make sure to just use a stump. The heat will reflect back on the candle and melt it, so if its too long you might endup with a long, burning, wick at the bottom of the jar. The pro of it burning a bit hotter is that it will melt more of the scented wax, so it can just kinda meld togheter and look kinda like a regular candle in a jar with a ombre center. Tealights are 100% less of a hassle and fire hazzard tho. Choose wisely.

I put mine in a pot of water and boil the water until the wax melts then dump it out. It's fun seeing everyone's different ways of doing this! 😊 The resin is so beautiful!

I use my candle jar on the warmer on my stove and I add fresh wax melts to it. That way the wax doesn't go to waste and I still get used out of every bit of scent that was in it.

Если это воск, то можно было прогреть на водяной бане. Тогда не пришлось бы марать салфетки. Или залить кипятком, чтоб масла всплыли на поверхность и подождать, пока они остынут.

gonna be honest, putting resin in a jar that clearly had good wax left to burn is more harmful than just recycling an empty jar

Freeze it!! Much easier than hot water and the mess. It pops right out! And if it doesn't, after freezing just put it in a bowl of hot water until it does. Very thorough too what you did of course, good job 👏

The cleanest and simplest way I have found is just using the warmer on my coffee machine. They also sell candle warmers and those little warmers to keep your coffee cup warm.

I use to freeze mine and pop them out in two pieces ☺️

What was the end result?? I don’t get what it was in the end.

I always soak the jar in hot water. Just to the brim (water doesn’t touch the wax) and then I pour it out or scoop it out. It’s less messy this way and you can save the wax bits and burn them in a wax burner.

Just get a boiling pot of water and put the candle in it until it melts😂😂😂

You can melt the wax out and then pour it out. The wax is still usable that way. It just looked like you wasted a bunch of perfectly good wax my friend.

My candle came straight out, virtually clean, on a hot Australian summers day.

If you ever wanna avoid the wax on the sides not melting btw, while it's lit, wrap tin foil around the sides all the way around, but don't block the flame obviously. It should slowly start to melt the wax that's stuck. Just keep an eye on it.

you can boil the jar for a complete thorough clean. less mess, less time consuming.

Next time to take the candle out without so mush mess use a blow dryer and heat up the sides and it show just drip out into the trash

Just put it in a pot with Horst water and then on low hat on the stove. The wax melts and floats to the top (like in the video) After all is melted put the pot away to cool down. After its cool completely you can throw the old wax away 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pit it on the stove next time you bake something. Wax melts and you can pour it into wax melt trays. Cut two birds with one stone

I use a old cutlery knife to break bits from side to use again in a wax burner..Then put candle container in hotish soapy water to remove labels..Lot less faffing than this way

My candles melt all the way down to the bottom.

I use candle warmers now so I don't have that problem anymore.

The easiest way to remove candle wax from a container is to put the whole candle in the freezer overnight. The next day it will slide right out. You can take about glass that is stuck together using the same technique. I always loved studying physics in college😁😎😷🙋‍♀️

You.can just use a double broiler to heat the wax and just pour it out. No need at all to pour hot water and waste wax that will end in a land fill.

It's easier to just sit the jar in a pot of boiling water, wax will melt and u can just pour it out in to a throw a cup

Cleaning out wax this way is so messy. Put the jar in the freezer overnight and wax In bottom & sides will pop right out. Try it. 🙂

Put in freezer the wax comes straight out when defrosted.

You can just leave it until the water cools and then the wax is solid and you can just take it out

I leave mine on the stove while I’m using a burner and it melts the entire thing so you can hold it w an oven mitt and wipe it out:) I’ve never done it to a dead candle w this much wax though.. I’d assume it would work the same. I also don’t recommend this tho bc It’s not the safest method 🥴
