Upcoming Surgery Plan, Missing 6 Events, Important Message for Men, Embarrassing Explicit Details
I have had to get real about my health and made the difficult decision to step away from some events for surgery. I just withdrew from 6 upcoming events due to health issues that are affecting my ability to throw. I will be cleared to travel by June, so the tournament in British Columbia is my planned tentative return. I also want to take this opportunity to spread awareness about the importance of men's health and self-care.

I'm going to pray for you , bro!
Great message Scott, one I fully endorse. My dad found at at 63, in 1992 six months after retiring, that his first ever PSA test returned 56… with an action limit of 4 (which I’m sure you’re very aware of at this point). By the time he got to surgery, he already had cancer in his lymph nodes, and they couldn’t remove it. His urologist put him on an ‘experimental’ therapy at the time - hormone treatment… basically, chemical castration. He developed all the common menopause symptoms, including bone loss. He was one of the lucky ones, though, as he lived to 90 and passed away from other causes (but that could’ve been exacerbated by 30 years of hormones’. He was a stickler for his sons being vigilant about prostate health, and apparently I was more vigilant than my brothers. I started getting exams around 40, more because of dads insistence than worry on my part. My prostate had been noted as enlarged for some time, but not problematic. Then my PSA started climbing a few years ago. When it went from below 0.2 to above it, I asked about next steps and when I got up to 0.4 my GP suggested seeing the urologist. In 2 years it got up to 3.2 and my urologist did several tests including a biopsy. The biopsy showed a number of samples with cancer, but 2 samples from a region identified by a special MRI graded as grade 7 and one sample as grade 8. That was February 2022. I had my prostate removed in July 2022 (after some tests to help identify whether it had already gotten outside the prostate), and the pathology tests on the removed organ showed one little ‘tendril’ that had reached the surface of the removed mass and could indicate a potential future recurrence. So now I test every 3 months to see if I was unlucky… The moral of the story, to back up your message in an emphatic way: take care of your body in general, and for men that one little lump that sits innocuously at the bottom of your abdomen - it can cause a world of heartburn and headache, so take care of it. Again - GREAT message and PSA (public service announcement this time…)
Gute Besserung Mr. Stokely and thanks for sharing!
Quote of the day:" Don't be dead, I need you guys." Get well Scott, be a good patient and listen to their advice. Get plugged into the tour somehow , maybe do announcing???? We love your perspective on everything. How do we advocate the PDGA/ Disc golf network for this?
You gotta take care of yourself, you're doing the right thing. A muscle relaxant not only is just a stop-gap measure, they have more side effects than shortening your drives. You can't take the risk of getting sepsis again, Scott, you're doing the right thing.
Good luck 🤞
Oh my gawd. You got me DYING about the swingers in the hot tub.
Great message Scott! You are doing the right thing, and I am sure your courage in sharing your experience will save lives. Testing for prostate issues (and other tests many people tend to avoid) is so important. When I was 62, I was reluctant to go to my family doctor about one of those “embarrassing” problems. When I could no longer put it off, I saw my doctor, and then had to wait months for an appointment with a specialist. But within one month, I was in the ER, where a doctor told me that I would not leave the hospital alive. For most patients with disease so advanced, he would be right; but I was very lucky another doctor knew about a new treatment that might save my life. To make a (fortunately) long story short, 15 years later, I am taking up disc golf. Most people are not so lucky. Death is a lot more unpleasant than things like prostate exams, colonoscopies, etc. DON’T PUT CANCER SCREENING OFF!
Wish you the best! Get healthy and come back stronger.
Hope for a fast recovery Scott💪
Thanks for sharing Scott!
Thanks for sharing Scott. It's frustrating to age but more messages like this help remind us that proper self care makes it less painful. Heal up and come back stronger!
Glad you’re taking care of it. I believe you’ll come back better than before. Good luck!
Take care, Scott. Hoping you have a speedy recovery. I lost my father last year at 64 of Prostate Cancer. Keep on top!
If u weren't such a nomad I'd say Stokley For President! Straight up talk is what this world needs, thanks Scott!
Stay well Scott
Praying for you. Glad you are getting things taken care of.
If it's laugh or cry - you gotta laugh. Even if it's not a laughing matter. My 58 year old prostate isn't the greatest sometimes, and I can only imagine what it's like when it's really bad. Good luck with the surgery and recovery, Scott!
Thoughts and prayers for your successful upcoming surgery as well as your speedy recovery and healing 🙏🏻. I am sorry you are going through this, but I thank you for sharing the information, especially with older guys like me. I really enjoyed your clinic last week! If anyone has the opportunity to attend one of Scott’s clinics, DO IT!!! It has already helping my distance! I hope all this is behind you soon!
Stay strong Scott.. wishing you all the best in your recovery..
So sorry to hear the news. You are doing the right thing. I was looking forward to seeing you in Jonesboro 😞 Get Well Soon!
I am so sad I wont get to see you throw at Champions Cup. I hope you get well soon Scott.
You take care of you bud! We'll be here when you get back.
Get well Scott. That's the most important thing
Hey stokely, I was watching a video by "Dr eric berg" and he said that stinging nettle root is good for inflamation and prostate enlargement. I had you in mind when i heard about this and figured id let you know about it. I hope this infornation helps❤
Excellent video and message. You did a proper job of setting it up and warning about the content. I’m also 54 (a few months older) and is part of the reason I’m a fan, but luckily don’t have your same problems. I’ve never been afraid of going to the doctor (‘hate’ the dentist 😉) and luckily with insurance (of wife) can annually. Do what you have to do sir!
Take care of yourself! And next time you're in St. Louis, I'd like to take you to Missouri School for the Blind where they pay disc golf as a part of their adventure camp.
