The Ultegra XT-D is developed with the carp angler in mind and the new reel will immediately catch the eye of the avid carp angler because of the improved matt black reel cosmetics. In addition to the new Ultegra reels the package is equipped with 1 extra spool and various types of line reducers. The Ultegra 14000 XT-D has 2x line reducers (10000/3500) and the 5500-series also has 2x line reducers (4500/3500). In combination with the line reducers the Ultegra XT-D gives the carp angler the opportunity to fish with different types of lines and respective line capacities according to the actual circumstances on the bank. The multi-disc Instant Drag facility enables a freespool to power setting in just half a turn of the front lever, making it suitable to instantly fight the carp that is on the other end of the line. Packed with unique features like X-Ship, Super Slow Oscillation (14000) / Slow Oscillation (5500), Aero Wrap II, and Instant Drag the carp angler can be confident to challenge the biggest and most sought after carps of all big lakes and rivers.

Rip what a brilliant man
The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight kzread.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

Funny story, I got an xtd 5500 My old shimano 6010 aero GT casts further than it. Work that one out.
Can I change the grip to a bubble grip?
I recently purchased this reel, can someone tell me what rod to pair it with? I was thinking an 8ft rod would be ok. And would like to get a shimano rod, can someone tell me specifications. Much appreciated.

This reel is meant for distance casting. I recommend looking at the Shimano Tiralejo line of rods in the 9ft to 11ft range.

Are you happy with your reels, im looking at getting some with the ice washer kits to make the drag nice and smooth. a few are saying the line guards break have you had that.
