Upadesa Saram - Sri Ramana Maharshi - full with English translation

Музыка

Rendering by Swami Brahmananda, Chinmaya Mission
It is said that the great Tamil poet, Muruganar, was once composing a poem based upon an ancient legend about a group of ascetics who were performing various rites in the Daruka forest. These ascetics arrogantly believed that their efforts in performing Karma (actions) were bound to yield fruit and that even Gods could not prevent their fruition. It was Lord Shiva who then appeared in the Daruka Forest to deflate the pride of the ascetics and to offer them the right instruction (upadesa) so that they could all be liberated.
But when Muruganar came to writing the instruction given to the Rishis by Siva he asked Bhagavan to write it for him. Bhagavan accordingly wrote the instruction in thirty Tamil verses. He himself later translated these into Sanskrit, and the Sanskrit version was daily chanted before him together with the Vedas and continues to be chanted before his shrine. Since Sri Ramana was considered to be an incarnation of Lord Siva, this work is treated as a scripture. This nectar of knowledge refers to the various paths to liberation giving great insights on the core of the philosophy of Sanathana Dharma.
