ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

“When you have realized God, scholars and the learned appear like mere straw. Padmalochan said, ‘What does it matter if I go with you to the meeting in the fisherman’s house? With you I can even go and eat at the house of a person who cremates the dead.’[9] “Everything can be achieved through love for God. When you can love Him, you feel no lack of anything at all. Karttika and Ganesha were sitting beside Bhagavati (their mother). She was wearing a necklace of jewels round her neck. The Mother said, ‘I will give this necklace to one who goes around the universe first.’ Immediately, without losing a second, Karttika set out on his peacock. Ganesha, on the other hand, went slowly round his mother and saluted Her. Ganesha knew that the Mother contained the whole universe within Herself. Pleased with Ganesha, She put the necklace around his neck. After a long time Karttika returned and saw his brother sitting there wearing the necklace. “I wept and cried to the Divine Mother, ‘Mother, please make me understand what the Vedas and the Vedanta contain. Please tell me what is in the Puranas and the Tantras.’ She made everything known to me, one by one. “She made everything known. She has shown me so much!” Retrieved from Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita (The Nectar of the Words of Sri Ramakrishna, Volume 4, Section 9, Chapter 2). Purport: Sri Ramakrishna is explaining the SUPERIORITY of love over purely intellectual knowledge. He is explaining that with love, discernment will be increased, but without love, discernment is limiting and prevents love from coming. In narrating the story, Kartikeya represents the paths of discernment, action and meditation. He seeks knowledge through reasoning, ascetic practices, and meditation. He will catch up, but it will take the time it takes someone to run across the universe. Ganesha here represents the path of devotion. He knows that the Mother (God) is supreme knowledge. So, in order to know everything, he surrounds the Mother, and in that, in much less time, he reached the knowledge that his brother took eternities to reach in a more precarious way. This is Sri Ramakrishna's teaching. It is about the centrality of love. It's about the superiority of love. But it's not a love like that ′′ for nothing ′′ no. It is a love of God. A soul's love to God. Everything compared to that looks like straw.

Seek Bhagavan's kripa, His blessings are HERE, He is in his words and advices. It can beautifully substitute all kinds of theoretical knowledge and never-ending concepts. By all means, use bhakti to call Him, he is rupa and arupa, He is Sadashiva and mother Goddess. Svami's teaching is wonderfully on point. His story about the cave yogi who misses the point of advaita enquiry is a great way how to explain differences in the view. tantrics and Patanjali/Raja/Nath yogis do not have the same view and often do not necessarily even know how crucially important it is to understand this fundamental view of non-dual spontaneously present, non-arising state. - On the other hand, these yogis and tantrics often know how to work with shakti and how to project shakti. it is in itself also a full and complete marga, by different means. Advaitins often misunderstand paths that indicate separation of the subject from the object. The great maha siddha Padmasambhava once said: ''Outwardly, practise according to the sutras, Be meticulous about cause and effect, and what you adopt or avoid. (exoteric or pashu stage) Inwardly, practise according to the unsurpassable secret mantra, It is important to combine generation and completion. (esoteric or virya stage) Secretly, practise according to the great secret Atiyoga, And gain liberation in a body of light within a single lifetime. (Divya stage) “If, upon looking outwards towards the external expanse of the sky, There are no projections emanated by the mind, And if, on looking inwards at one’s own mind, There is no projectionist who projects [thoughts] by thinking them, Then, one’s own mind, completely free from conceptual projections, will become luminously clear.'' - Guru Padmasambhava
