UP CYCLE: Making a Wallet from a Hamburger Wrapper
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
A couple of months ago I made myself a quick leather wallet. I think it turned out pretty nice so I thought I’d make another one. This time I’ll show you how to make one too!
The design is pretty simple and could be adapted to lots of other materials.

Finally someone on youtube who does basic leather work, and actually finishes their edges! really nice wallet!
Took me awhile to solve the riddle of the wrapper. LOL. Great looking piece.

Brian Oltrogge any possible way you sell one like this, I have one almost exactly like this but it doesn’t have the bill fold. Which I fell in love with. Please please in anyway could I buy this wallet from you.
This takes me back almost sixty years to leathercraft in jr. high shop class. Mr. Johns would have given you an A+. I enjoy your projects and their presentation. First class.
Edge snot: the hallmark of fine leatherworking.
Great wallet and video! Your work is always so well done. And the AvE reference was on point! As was the hamburger wrapper - that one took me a second though.
This is great! Keeping this video in my back pocket for future reference.

I kept waiting to see the MacDonald's logo some where. I was at the end before I caught on to what you meant by hamburger wrapper. Great video and great project.

I'm guessing half the views are from people thinking the same. Sneaky!
I was searching for ideas on making an electrician's tool bag and tripped over your video. Glad I did. Will be checking out the rest of your channel.
I made a very similar wallet myself based on your design. It's been an amazing wallet for personal use, I added in an extra flap for a windowed ID slot and I made the card slot shorter on the 4 1/2" side so it was more of a cover than a full slot because I had some trouble making mine easily accessible. All in all a great piece you designed, thanks for the video!
10/10 for title, cool project detail was fantastic

Brian Oltrogge what thread did you use, also great title?
Damn. You can move your hands like a superhero.
thank you for allowing me to keep my high expectations of quality. nothing worth having comes easy. I truly appreciate you sharing your work with us.
That turned out pretty good.
beautiful wallet! the rounded edges are a nice touch. for my personal taste I liked the raw chunkiness of the square edge to show off the thickness of that full grain leather. i would guess most viewers probably like the finished look. the great thing about making your own is making it your way! great video! thanks!
You're killing me....every thing you make is amazing. Congrats
Nothing like watching a craftsman at work with old timey music in the background. :p
Best Wallet and video I’ve seen In a while
Because you showed how to do this,Going to buy you the Biggest Hamburger Sandwich you ever seen!!!
Entertaining as well as informative. Good leatherworking skills.
Your projects are always phenomenal. love your videos keep up the great work.
You have amazing skills. What a stunning design in simplicity, but elegance.

Bit late on the reply to this as I just saw the video, but he was completely honest with his title. He did use a piece of burger wrapper for making a wallet. Natural burger wrapper. After all, doesn't the skin wrap around what will one day become said burger? ;)
You sir, deserves the cherry on the cake. Such an amazing skill
Simplified handsome wallet . Nicely done !
That looks lovely. Really nice and simple design.
I watched the whole thing and then wondered 'where the was the McDonalds wrapper?' Then I got it.

Hey, sorry for the late comment! That wallet looks great. I’m not a big fan of that particular design for a wallet, but the craftsmanship is amazing. I love how you used basic tools to create a product that is finished so nicely. It helps build more motivation for beginners like me. Thanks for sharing.
Making this right now. Awesome how-to vid. Thanks!!
That roundover thingy looks so satisfying. wanna try that
just came across this video in my feed and loved it!! Keep up the great work!!
Beautiful. Now, I want to try and make one for my sons. Thank you

Very impressive improvisation here, Brian. Excellent work showed here. Keep up the good work!
you dont see a lot of leather work anymore, nice job
Did you think about cutting out a finger slot in the side pocket to make it easier to get things out?
I love it. Maybe one of the beautifullest wallets i've seen
I can't believe people disliked this vid. What's up with that? This was a great video tutorial, nice closeup shots, and clear voice work. Beautiful wallet too!
Your craftsmanship is second to none!

It's an awesome wallet . And I like the fact that you take your time to explain how to do it . 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Informative chip! Seems simple and short, but answered my questions!
It may be simple but there is a lot of detail work on that dude. Very cool.
It takes skill to make it look so easy, good job.
Two thumbs for a clever title!

Great video! Very informative. Thanks!
Nice job mate. I wish I knew how to make wallets.
I don't have leather, but lots of denim. I will try this in a double layer of heavy denim. Maybe use some red canvas for the inside. THANKS for the inspiration.

Took me some time, but the title was VERY SMART!!!
I see you are another user of the wheel style cutters been looking at them how does the edge hold up? Is there wat to sharpen them? Like your work thanks for your time
Nice and compact leather. I also light the way you used lighting.
great tutorial. is there a template available for this piece? or some kind of written out instructions? I have difficulty following the fast movements
Lol.. Love it. I get weird looks from people when I'm taking video or pictures and drop a fyf or if I'm just trying to concentrate and I drop in fyf LOL Awesome.. Subed...

Oh wait! A hamburger wrapper because hamburgers are made of beef and leather is cowhide! That's actually really smart!
Great build.
Out of curiosity, who downvotes videos like these? This is very good. Last week, I bought paracord to make myself a bracelet because I wasn't happy with the bracelets I've been seeing, so I learned to make one myself. And I did and it's better than the paracord bracelets I've been searching for at camping stores, amazing and sport stores. Now I'm looking for a minimalist wallet that fits my criteria. I can't find one. I have to make one. Thanks. This will be my next project. Can you answer me one thing though: how much money is a project like this? On paracord I spent $20 (100ft 550 and 32ft 325 for trial and error before perfecting my bracelet...and a lighter). I'm patient when it comes to funding.
What is that little fork thingy? I need one
That is a very nice wallet.
Wow Brian! Best tutorial ever! Thanks for Sharing! Have A Super Week!.....Gus

Awesome video !
Simplicity at its highest!!
Another great video. Keep up the good work.
You sound just like a young David McCullough. You should do the narration for the next Ken Burns documentary.
Ohhhh, a wrapper!
I made this project today and it turned out really good. Thanks so much for the video! Mine is a little different but very similar. Same basic design.

Wow simple and awesome,i’ll try to make it TODAY . Your vid very helpful but i did not get what you used before burnished and what tread you used ,need to wax?
what is this wallet style called? do you know of a place which sells them?
I almost got _Wooooshed_ on that one!
As always, great video and content from you. Count me as one of the slow ones with your humor this time, but great once I got there. The FYF I came up with is "for your funds". I like your better!

After watching this multiple times - I’m excited to do it on my own. I will upload it on ny channel soon. Thank you 😊😊😊
what does a hide like that cost? I'd love to do this myself, but I feel like it would be expensive.
@Grunblau
7 жыл бұрын
+Bill T You don't have to buy an entire hide (this is a half hide). You can also buy smaller pieces a lot of the time. This half hide cost me $180 but you could just about reupholster my couch with it. Cow hides are shockingly large. I also get a deal at Tandy as a business owner or it would have been about $240. This should give you an idea but also know that I could probably make 100s of wallets out of it. There are also much cheaper hides!
if i use a different thickness of material dose that change any dimensions?
Hey I want to buy a wallet with that same design. Are you selling it? Or where can I find one just like that?
The whole title is a dad joke, you'll be an excellent father one day sir
I was hoping for the fast food variety, but well played sir. Well played.
You sir have some skills, that's for sure. I am particularly envious of your CNC ability, it would be so useful for me sometimes. Only just discovered you. A well deserved sub and thumbs up from me buddy. Keep up the excellent work.
