Thanks for clearly sharing specifications and details that a future customer would care about (run time, charge time, etc). Will be interesting to understand cost, overall battery life in years, and pay-back assuming lower energy cost vs. diesel fuel.

Bobcat has a 100% Electric (Zero Hydraulics) Track Loader, now, too! Obviously, these pieces of equipment, are at stages of development, kinda like somewhere between First Retail Deliveries of the Tesla Roadster, or the Nissan Leaf, and the Early Tesla Model S! But, they will progress, and discover ways to get more run time, more powered on tap, and more versatility from them, going forward. We are starting to move from Pioneer to Early Adopter level of Battery Powered Heavy Equipment! Basically, those who "NEED" Zero Emission Equipment for some or all of their Job sites, will lead the uptake on these! Others might "Sample" 1 or 2 different pieces, alongside their raft of Diesel units, and give them different tasks, until they determine best fits for them. That might take them 1-3 Years to sort out, but then, we may find a large uptick in Orders for these, as they discover they can do more than they first imagined!

I can tell you this started in 1992 with an electric 930 size wheel loader. It had a full frame but the axles allowed for crab steer. It didn't like being in the rain but I had about 20 of my guys drive it at the Aurora plant.

There is a company in Australia called Janis which makes interchangeable batteries for heavy trucks. The batteries can be swapped out in about 4 minutes. Cat and Deere should look at their technology.

@@orionbetelgeuse1937 not really because when the horse was around that's really all you had you didn't have another option other than maybe a train that's why we got technical logically advance and came up with vehicles that run on diesel or gas so you can simply add more diesel or gas and minimize downtime

Sandvik make battery electric mining equipment, including 65 ton dump haulers and wheel loaders, that can self swap out their battery packs in a couple of minutes. In deep mines with tunnels off of shafts, they can slope all the side haulage tunnels downhill to the main draw shaft, then the equipment will self charge with regenerative braking with a load down to the draw shaft, then have enough power to get back up to the loading area.

These cost at least three times more than the diesel versions !

Where did you get these numbers? Also, electricity is dirt cheap compared to diesel so I don't think operators will care if the machine costs more if it'll save them money in the long run with lower maintenance and fuel costs.

This is going to explode next year in the Netherlands. We have a court ruling regarding our amount of nitrogen desposition, and moving the equipment from diesel to electric means you can sidestep the complicated calculations for it. The grid company here is already using the JCB smaller diggers out and about, and so are fibre companies. Definite change of winds as it makes permitting so much easier.

Considering these machines are usually the first things on a jobsite where are they going to plug them in. Its easy to run a fuel truck all over a jobsite and fuel and grease machines. These are going to need transit to a charging site or at least to an area where multiple machines will be charged by a Diesel powered Generator. Stupid for most applications. Based on current vehicle charging rates I dont believe whats being said.

They are charging at much higher charger rates then current, mec500 charges at 500kw put two in parrallel and its 1 mw of charging capacity

Electric in cold weather scenarios? Snow clearing? I don't see it as being workable for that.

Yes it takes a lot of energy to heat and cool battery banks, inverters, and controllers to keep them working safely. Yes this additional energy load negatively impacts usability during low and high ambient temperatures.

I'm not sure about whether or not you're with me here, but people thinking that they're somehow achieving "zero emissions" from using this type of equipment is one of the biggest scams I've ever witnessed.

Im glad to see Cat using a modular battery design like GM is doing. Mainly because this makes it so much easier to fix or replace components and limits waste. Plus its very customizable for your needs

So when we show up on a bare piece of land with no infrastructure (no electrical power) to prep the site for a building at the end of the day we will have to trailer these electrics back to our yard to charge overnight? What about when we have jobs out of town? Out of state? Would it be better for us to have a generator truck with a propane or nat gas generator to power up charge stations so we can charge at night? !

Working with the electric 320 out in the country say on a mountain, how do you charge if no where to plug in only great big generator rumbling all night keeping everyone waken

And you just what Lowbed it back to the work yard every day to charge it up some times twice maybe in a rock pit but not out in the fieldwork or road work.

With the money some of these companies have they will have 50-100 batteries fully charged as backup. A plan to switch out batteries at lunch or whatever. Lots of new discoveries and inventions ahead.

How do you charge these things when your working back in the bush for a few days or in a pit, not very convenient.

Not necessarily. Bobcat has eliminated all hydraulic systems and rams from its electric loader.

Utter politically-driven nonsense! The very idea that folks take this seriously speaks volumes about public education, in general. Having spent a career in the EE field, I can tell you that there will likely never be a battery power source available to the public that can do what is expected of construction equipment; namely, work under extreme loading for as long as you supply diesel fuel to it. There's no doubt in my mind that CAT can demonstrate the capabilities of battery-powered machinery - under ideal conditions - but when it comes to operating this type of machinery in extreme weather conditions, especially in extreme cold, there's simply nothing presently available that can match the [practically unlimited] performance of diesel-powered heavy machinery ... and don't even get me started on operating electric machinery in remote areas.

Electrification is a bad idea as it stands currently. Way more environmentally destructive at this stage. We need more research and development…or maybe we need to allow former free energy technology to re-emerge.

Some us, of poor human beings, like to have breaks, and do not like working with polluting diesel fumes, so no thanks to Diesel, I welcome every heavy duty electric machine.

It's just a big kids toy. How do you run machines that are on a 24-hour shift 7 days
