UP 1988 "The Katy" Heritage Unit leads MITBO down BNSF's Hinckley Subdivision!

On a rainy spring-*cough* I mean, December afternoon, UP 1988 has a real head scratcher train behind it. MITBO, potash for Boone, IA. Loaded or empty, I'm not sure.
I got a timely heads up but only checked at the last minute so I ended up running as fast as possible to the tracks, arriving with mere seconds to spare. No time for the tripod.
I believe it's been almost 3 years since the last trip this made up to the Hinckley

I've seen a lot of the CP heritage units, including other things like the CN veterans unit, and the childhood cancer unit (orange one) I've also seen a lot of ex-atsf stuff, lots of b40-8Ws when I was younger, only recently did I realize what I was seeing in 12-17 are things many of us will never see again. When I was 4 I didn't know, but now I do.

The thing about this unit that it has a Dash 9 bell for some reason I expect it was gonna have an E bell or a Emd. Bell

finally u got another HU! I saw it leading NS 13Z back in June (u prob saw that video tho)
I love how that looks. I don’t railfan Union Pacific, but I would love to see the KATY heritage unit. It’s just so RED.
I’ll take a UP HU leading any day. Last time it ran on the Hinckley was May 2021 when it went up on MSSCN and down on MITDM(wow nostalgic symbols)

Does this portion of the Hinkley get both UP and CP run through traffic? Seems like in a lot of your videos there’s quite a few UP and CP symboled trains in the same spot.

Yup, BNSF, UP & CP operate the entire stretch, BNSF owns it.

As far as I know, MITBO isn’t a symbol. Also, if it’s potash I’m pretty sure the symbol wouldn’t be a manifest

Well it was MITBO. I've caught some weird unit train symbols going south down my line with "M" as the first letter, perhaps a storage move?

@@BNSF1458Nevermind. You are correct. ITBO is the replacement for ITDM. Storage move? Not sure, apparently these cars went to the Iowa Northern in manly
