    Hi Kim! I'm an international applicant who got accepted into U of T, and have recently started adding my courses to the planner. I'm not yet enrolled into them, however, because the enrollment dates are in July. 3 of my core courses for the program I'm doing are MAT135H5, MAT136H5, and MAT223H5. When I added them on the planner, there were issues found and it said that prerequisites are required, specifically a minimum number of courses from OSSALGEBRA&GEOMETRY 'High School Algebra'. Since I am not a Canadian, and have not done high school in Canada, how can I get myself enrolled into my courses? Oh and btw this video was so informative, thankyouu!

    Thank you so much for the videos! They're so helpful 💕 I've got a question, since we have to meet the depth requirements before we can complete the degree, is it sort of inevitable to do courses that you have no interest in? For example for quantitative reasoning the only courses available in UTSC are mathematics, and I don't exactly get on well with it loll

    Hello Linda, I hope you are doing well. Thank you for your support, I really appreciate those kind words! The purpose of breadth requirement is to ensure students can receive a well-rounded education at uoft, and that's also something I appreciate about UofT because it allows me to explore other fields of study that I was not exposed to previously. I understand everyone enjoys different things but I guess that's part of life and we don't always get to do what we like. However, try to make the most out of it and challenge yourself because you might be better at it than you think! Try using the link below, and search by breadth requirement (in your case, quantitative reasoning). In addition to math courses, I found Comp Sci courses in that category, you may took a look at it! utsc.calendar.utoronto.ca/search-courses First year is kinda like high school, in a sense that courses you take are still very general, and some introductory courses are intended for student who doesn't have prior exposure to the topics. You can look for introductory courses that falls under your breadth requirement of interest. If you are not sure how to look for introductory courses, you can refer to my video "UofT101: how to choose courses" (timestamp - 3:05). If you really can't find a course that fits your interest, you may consider looking at courses offered at another campus. However, I haven't taken courses from another campus and I'm not sure how credits that are completed at another campus will be transferred to UTSC. You may check this link (www.utsc.utoronto.ca/registrar/courses-other-campuses) for details and make sure you consult your registrar before doing so. Good luck!

    Hi Kim! Thanks so much for the advice. I know what career I want to pursue but not exactly how to get there. I want to be a surgeon. So what courses do you suggest I take as undergrad to get into med school. I just feel so lost and unprepared, would love your advice.

  • @kimm-ing2666

    Hi Aqil, sorry about the delayed response! Academic requirements varies between med school and I strongly suggest you to look at the admission requirement of specific programs so that you can plan accordingly. Generally, most MD programs strongly recommend their prospective students to take courses such as general biology, physical and organic chemistry, biochemistry, social science and humanities etc during undergrad. Again, specific prerequisites and required credits in each category will change depending on the program you are applying to but what I mentioned above is the general consensus and mcat is built off of first and second year courses (nothing in depth, studying the mcat prep textbook is sufficient for the test). You should also consider having a competitive GPA in the degree you are doing, your resume and non-academic experience (could be clubs, research experience etc.). Hope this helps and i just want to say it's okay to feel lost (it's just a constant thing us humans have to deal with regardless of which stage of life we are in ugh!). I am less active on this platform during the school year so feel free to reach out on ig (@kimbemwy) if you have more specific questions about grad school or med school! Happy to help! wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

    Hi there, sorry for the late reply!! I am not familiar with course equivalents and transfer but I found some resource online that might be helpful (transferex.utoronto.ca/trans-nav/#/). Alternatively, I would recommend you to ask the UTM registrar's office about the transfer process and credits equivalents. UTM office of the registrar contact info: www.utm.utoronto.ca/registrar/office-registrar All the best!

  • @kimm-ing2666

    @kimm-ing2666

    Hi Sheryl, that's an exciting field to study! Depending on the campus you are admitted to, there are different enrolment requirements for the psychology program. At UTSG, the PSY department offers specialist, major and minor program. Please look at the academic calendar for details regarding enrolment requirements and minimum grade average (fas.calendar.utoronto.ca/section/Psychology). I highly recommend you to take PSY100 in your first year (assuming you are admitted to UTSG). First of all, it's a great course with amazing and knowledgeable profs (took it 3 years ago, hopefully it's still the same prof now!) You will learn the "basics" of psychology as it is an introductory course, and I always encourage first years to take introductory course if they are not sure/ planning on studying in a field they are interested in. Some of friends in psy (who are specialist/major students) told me it's competitive to get accepted as it remains to be a popular program among students. However, definitely doable if that's your field of interest! Lastly, feel free to check out other videos on my channel! Good luck, kim
