Unveiling 3 Secret Oxy-Fuel Torch Techniques!

The first thing most people think about is cutting when it comes to using an oxyfuel rig, but Austin goes over 3 tips with Ian Johnson out at @BigTireGarage that don't involve cutting. First Ian shows how to fix sheet metal that has "oil canned" or warped resulting in a sound you might hear from an oil can. Next Austin shows a trick to keep your bolt threads spatter-free. Finally, Ian shows us how to prep a piece of aluminum to be shaped by annealing it first. Let us know in the comments what useful tips you have when working with Oxyfuel.

Bros, super good timing once again. I'm straightening a truck deck that warped, and I never knew about the quench part of the technique. This will hopefully save me some time and fuel. Thanks!

Have you already done a video on oxyacetylene torch aluminium sheet welding? I know it is difficult. But this one master showed me. He had special kind of mask bacause the light is very bright and emits various lights. The torch had also super small tip for the work.

Guy brings a 1/2" plate aluminum to be cut and bent, it had no proof marks so I didn't know what it was, bent the first piece and Pop splits down the bend, "Oh #hit it's tempered" did the soot trick and finished the job. it works very well.

I have a question for TIG welding. Long story short is my supervisor did nuclear work for years and I was working on stainless. He took one look at my torch and said my tungsten was contaminated. I couldn't see anything obvious, but I cleaned it up anyway. How to recognise small amounts of contamination on Tungsten please.

On the aluminum annealing please note that the process shown is only applicable for the strain hardening aluminum alloys, specifically the 3XXX and 5XXX alloys. The 6XXX is a precipitation hardening alloy and is annealled by heating to about 900 to 950F and then quenched in water.
