The secret stairs leading to powder bath. Originally homes built in late 1800’s people got around by horse & carriage. Off the main entry you had small room for drivers to wait while horse was tied up to curbside tie ring. Then when wealthy visitors were done drivers would come out of small room. Later these small rooms were used for indoor plumbing. Also secondary kitchen is where servants prepared most meals. And help usually hung out there cooking so is not to be seen. Tiny rooms upstairs usually were a sleeping porch with outside ventilation. This was very popular in large mansions to prevent tuberculosis which ran rampant in 1800’s.

And the reason they are left to rot is because banks create money out of thin air to loan to people. That's how the federal reserve works. It's funny money. So the bank owns the property but doesn't care because they got it for free.

When I was younger, I wished with all of my heart to live in a house like this. Now I'm content in my tiny cottage. For some reason, larger houses seem sadder to me now, but I hope someone cherishes it into renewal and fills it with a family some day!

I am not jealous of a rich person who could fix this up and pass it on to history. I am seeing this today with classic old cars. I salute anybody who can maintain history and pass it on. Once history is gone you aren’t going to get it back.

As someone who has studied interior design i very much appreciate the detail in this home, the door at the end of the hall in the front entry was a medieval style door, the ceiling had groin vaults, the small kitchen was actually a butlers pantry and there is a ton of french regency/victorian filigree/ornate details throughout

That house has some beautiful woodwork in it, and a lot of possibilities when you look past all the crap clutter. It's a shame to let it go to rot. Hopefully somebody will restore it. I'm not usually into big houses like that but I think it could be worth the expense.

These old piles are a thing of the past when servants lived in and worked for peanuts most that are left in uk get taken on by national trust if there listed buildings but a lot are just abandoned and left to rot till someone buys the land and sticks 50 shoe box houses on the site

It is architecturally an important home. I'd say it was built in the 1920-1940 style. It has a servant stairway, quarters and pantry. There are significant leaded glass windows. The design also includes lots of light features. The built-in shelves and woodwork are high quality. It seems historic, so it is sad that it has gone to waste. Thanks for the look inside. Amazing.

Hi Devin, just FYI...the slides you are seeing, as well as others you found in a recent explore of the hospital, where construction workers crashed the party--- are not necessarily samples of "blood". Tissues of all types (not only blood) are stained with a variety of colors to enable microscopic visualization of the structures within the sample. Most often the stain will be of a reddish to purplish color depending on the specific dye. antibody, etc., and staining technique used. As a scientist I have employed staining technique for many years....but just so you know, these slides are likely a variety of different tissue, cell or organic/inorganic material which may or may not come from the human body---- not only or specifically blood: muscle, brain, skin, swab samples from inside the mouth, excrement, maybe even bacterial samples, you name it! Look for labels on the slides or slide box denoting identity of the sample. Hope you keep doing what you do, I enjoy it much! Stay safe and well!

Hey Devin-great job here! As always, I clicked the “Like” before the video started! Never once have you done/not done anything to make me regret “pre-view clicking!” The toilet on the first floor was likely hidden away like that because, decades ago, bathrooms were “hush, hush.” It wasn’t acknowledged, in proper homes, that humans used those. They were located upstairs. Likely they felt the need for a place on the first floor to “read the paper” so their solution was a hidden room containing the necessary equipment. The stairs off the kitchen would’ve been for servants’ use. Aside from mealtimes, they were to remain strictly out of sight. You should know by now, my friend, deep breath, hold it, open the fridge, close it up and move out of “smell-sight!” Oh my word!! I would KILL for that claw foot! That one looks large enough for two. And there’s TWO!! THREE!! What do you think it is that drives people to enter someone else’s home just to destroy everything they can? Your opinion, Devin, please. You’re a young man-any insights? I wish you’d given that mattress a bounce with a hand. It looked like it is of VERY good quality. This home was so very beautiful once! It breaks my heart to see it the way it was left. If the rich folks in this country got together, many of these abandoned houses could be converted into homes for homeless or poor folks or both. They’re just rotting away, being destroyed by people who should’ve been taught by their parents that you DO NOT go into a strangers’ home for ANY reason!

What I like is the way you narrate as we go along. No sad-sack muzak, no over-emotional outbursts, no walking through pointing at everything and naming it. Even the volume of your voice. We watch a lot of these and we say Proper People watch out! - it"s like we are there and you are just talking to us, and such respect for the place and its remains. Well done all the way around.

What I'd love to see is someone go in and tidy it up put new life back into it then take a video and show the before and after... give it some love...

You see the episode of Hoarders where a gay couple bought this old mansion at an auction or something like that , and the lady inside who it no longer belonged to wouldn’t leave because she had the whole place destroyed with her hoarding? They eventually got her out and cleaned it up. They felt really bad though because she didn’t want to leave and had nowhere to go or to take her billions of things. But I would recommend watching that if you wanna see a destroyed old mansion fixed. You can find the video/pictures of it now

Not blood. Those are histology slides. It's tissue sliced really thin and stained red to differentiate cells and their nuclei

It was most likely abandoned somewhere between 2006 and 2010. Plus the photos. I had some of those exact books in high school. I'm making a guess the husband was older maybe by 10 years or so. Based on the fact you had 90s editions of certain items lying around.

I think when you gave the date of 2006 as the last or most recent time frame when someone was living there is pretty accurate. I will tell you why. The pile of books that were on top of that coffee table in one of the ground floor rooms had a copy of the Cheese Premier book which came out in the early 2000. I know this because I worked as a manager at a Borders Book Store during that time period and that book was heavily featured in our promotional area and later in our discounted section. So 2006 definitely fits that time period when someone was still living in this house/mansion. It’s crazy to think that it’s been 15 to 18 years since then. But as you know, time flies!

So sad to see. The time & energy that went in to building this house and it's being left to rot.

Beautiful job... No matter how beautiful or large a home is, how much money they have, how smart they are , people can have unhappy lives. Their homes can be snap shots into their lives at that time. Well done!😊

I'm no expert, but I know that a lot of the local "old time" homes here, had "secret" out-of-the-way staircases and such for the "servents" and maid staff. Perhaps that is why? Definitely worth researching! Fascinating! And definitely a gorgeous place!

I was so intrigued by this video that it was over before I knew it. Amazing job. Thank you for ensuring the privacy of the people who lived there. That is special. Love your work!

Strange that the power was left on after all that time. Of course the other possibility is that some squatters lived there for a time, and illegally spliced into the nearby power lines.

Denise Boldea in some instances the the electric company simply forgot to shut it off. It’s a possibility, I’ve read about it in cases where people died in their homes or apartments and nobody noticed.... once I read about was in NYC and it was almost 15 years

i lived in a historic neighborhood my entire childhood and my parents still live there and it looks almost exactly like my house in a lot of ways structurally. Instead of being victorian ours is french chateau country style. it was built in 1936, so maybe that was around the time it was built? - great videos guys thanks for this content !!

I lived in a house like this for a few years. I’m guessing the house to have been built early 1900s. Loved all the fireplaces and antique stove in the kitchen. In the days before the internet you read to learn about things you were curious about. KZread is a godsend so much information in the palm of our hands today. Yes, the woodwork like the baseboards, walls and matching doors, all the same wood...that wood is worth good money.

Looks early 20th century, and Art Nouveau in design. I’d say 1900-1910. It’s a beautiful home, and has had many additions over the years. It’s a shame to see it in this condition. It looks restorable, but will take a considerable amount of money though. I wonder if it’s on a historic registry.

That doesn't mean anything. I have seen homes n business in good condition, that were on a Historical list. N still bulldoze to the ground. One whole block in my City, all the old building were on a historical list. Had been for years. All in good condition ( stores n apts still in them, yes needed some work). Company brought them, brides were had. All torn down. To be replaced with new building pretending to look old. I refuse to shop or live in any of them.

What a tragic history in so beatiful house. This mansion is magical in every detail.

Love the description and i agree 100%. Proper explorers save the history which would otherwise be forgotten and gone without any trace. I know few explorers who would love to see that place. Great explore .. no spray paint and minimal vandalism i guess .. all cups and glasses and such intact. Weird that it still has power on. @ 12:30 love that lamp.

Mike M I think leaving the power on is what would lead to accidental fires. It’s not like there was a sprinkler system installed here... and even if there was, like everything else, it’d be broken and in disrepair. It’s really strange to see a place like this not boarded up and secured.

I think that the government imposed such huge taxes on these mansions that that could also be the reason so many are abandoned. The owners fled without letting anyone know, so they couldn’t be made to pay up before they left.

What a part of history.I have always wondered what happened.it looked like they planned on coming back but didn't.yrs later because the house was on a side of the hill the city decided to demolish it.my grandfather took pics.so now im hooked & wonder what is the story.why did they leave. :-) ok now back to this video,1st what a sad story.next I love the inside .the architecture is beautiful.( I like to pause & write my thoughts then cont so I found it funny I restarted & u basically said the same thing :-) )at 2:06 that fireplace is amazing I love it.what an amazingly beautiful staircase.I love the hidden door that is such an old thing to find :-) that old bike is beautiful but weird its still here & inside.wow the books I just want to save them,especially Anne Frank.a lot of the stuff looks like the 1950s.especially the 1st kitchen but the 2nd looks like maybe 1980s or 1990s.at 8:01 I love the bookshelf window seat area.I just love everything about this place.I love the maze of rooms,some of it reminds me of the tv show Webster. ;-) ok im thinking because of the blood & the sign saying bath maybe at 1 point a Dr lived here & had an office here or something like a hospital.not sure but this was very interesting to find.I also think some homeless people found shelter here.at 12:44 what a beautiful view.I'm thinking that when this place was 1st built they had servants & the top floor used to be there living quarters.I can picture this place in the 1920s or 1930s.maybe the 40s.wow the parties & fun this beautiful place could tell some stories .its so sad to see it left to rot.thank u for sharing this place before it is demolished or rotted away. :-)

I think squatters have been living there,judging by some of the stuff lying around,like the glitterball and the Christmas lights on the stairs.2006 was only 14 yrs ago so....

Excellent photography - I love how you capture all the little details I would want to gawk at. That looks like an OLD house with those narrow hallways and the many small rooms. Really good one.

That “secret” door that led to the bathroom was actually for the maid/butler. It’s like a broom closet where they’d also keep the mops, like you saw. Help were not allowed to us let the main bathrooms.

If you watch a lot of different urban explorers they usually end up doing this while setting up a nice photo and leave it where they did the shoot. Just like they set a creepy old doll or bear in a rocking chair in a completely cleaned out room for a nice photo op. So probably just a previous explorer found it and left it there or the previous owner kept it indoors as bikes use to be taken care of well maintained.

Wonder who is paying that electric bill after all these years. That place is absolutely gorgeous! I mean the woodwork alone is fantastic! BTW, your filming and editing skills are really good. It seems like each new film gets better and better. Thanx for sharing this beautiful place.

I love the way your style and editing are evolving. This was a beautiful property, and it breaks the heart to see it come to this state. Perhaps the best we can say is the vandals found it but not the graffiti brigade and thrashers. The small kitchen was the Butlers pantry, and food was served from there through a swinging door zzzlt was cooked in the large kitchen.🖤🇨🇦

Jen1112111 10 Years Maybe he says in the description they fled 15 years ago based On the picture of the one printed out. But if they took pics together in 2006, I assume they broke up later. So she’s probably very well alive.

Yes the owner is alive and living in another country. The husband took the kid and went to a diffrent country. The mother found them and could not get her child back so she stayed in that country where she gets to see her child .

What would be cool to see is some of these abandoned mansions being used back in the day. Some footage or pictures or something seeing it up and running, and then, play the after of now....

I just wrote a comment below. Grew up in a Victorian house same exact or very close to the same staircase and yes there is door underneath the staircase however ours did not have a bathroom! It was just a place for us to play ( we made it that) it was a really cool hiding spot. I think that that was pretty common in Victorian homes. Back staircase too. That would of been for maids. It's devastating that house isn't in our family anymore...

It's every little girls dream to live in a beautiful place one day , I never got that dream come true , my grandson told me once , that dreams only come true on TV , I really thought how right he was . 🇺🇸☮️

Would love a follow up video, giving additional info on the family. Did the mother ever get her daughter back? Was the father sent to prison? Were there no siblings, cousins, aunts or uncles who could have gotten the house?

Thank you for sharing your exploration with us. If these walls could tell of the joys and sorrows this home has seen-including cheap “modern” updates, squatters and vagabonds. All those books on the floor break my heart. I could happily spend days organizing them. They probably all suffer from a mold infestation-mold is death to books-but I’d pull all the juvenile fiction and nonfiction, search for the earliest publication date and the latest. Could give us some time when children lived there. It would be fascinating to spend time to catalogue not just the books but the contents of the entire house. (I am such a nerd.) ✨😆✨ Had to laugh at the notion that the presence of a cassette player meant the house was really old. Cassette players came out when I was a teen, and I’m not THAT old! lol.

Usually it's either still coming out of the owners bank account or its being paid for by the city or the bank to make sure the place is still in somewhat not terrible condition if they want to redo it or to make sure it doesn't damage the land its on for them to take it down and put a new house there

If the electric bills are low which they would be it wouldn't necessarily be on their radar. It happens where people die or places are abandoned and the power continues to work for years as it can only be switched off publicly. Then they would have to instruct a person to go to that street and turn the house off by the mains. I don't think they can legally do that in case there are medical dependents.

The mother found her child, the father ran off to another country where the mother finally found them, she wasnt able to get full custody so she lives in that country where she is able to see her child part time. So the taxes and utilities are probably still being paid

I love watching the exploration of the same place by you and your friend. You both have different perspectives. Always a thumbs up. Always enjoyable! Always subscribed.

I'd say this mansion was built circa late 1880's based on the high arched ceilings. One of the kitchens were for butlers and servants. The other kitchen was probably where the servants cooked the family meals. And you may have discovered the servants passageways to carry serving trays of dishes out-of-sight of the family and guests back in the day. That first half bathroom you discovered behind the panel wall was probably a very early water closet (toilet and sink) when indoor plumbing was in its infancy. Indoor plumbing wasn't common to find in middle class and lower class homes of this particular time period. It's a very beautiful mansion, and for the person with unlimited income, could restore it to its former glory. Be safe when entering these old Victorian and Edwardian homes, they might still contain untouched dark green "Schnell's green" wallpaper, arsenic wallpaper which was all in vogue beginning in 1840 throughout the 1890's. Most European countries banned the poisonous wallpaper once deaths and chronic sickness was reported and traced back to the arsenic wallpaper. I enjoyed your video. It's a shame squatters ruin (and trash) beautiful old places such as this. The original family that had this mansion built probably had a good servant staff judging by the secret room and passageway. And I can only imagine how grand, how lovely this mansion must have appeared all dimly glowing cheerfully with gas lights (pre- electricity) and kerosene lamps.
