Thank you for this podcast. As a dog trainer who also works with dogs that present reactivity, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to both you and Michael. As you stated above, merging the neuroscience and Michael's training experience to educate your viewers was a great idea. I found it engaging.

here at 46 minutes, if you two don't talk about ahead...... ask Michael what is in dogs brain when interacting with other dogs, new acquaintenses, friends already and play- rough or gentle

Question.... should you or when should you step- in to throttle play when it gets too rough ? I have watched play groups when some dogs get frightened or 2 dogs start escalating and the group people said let them work it out or let her learn how to stick up for themselves. My inclination was to 'advocate' for the weaker ones and 'throttle' the rougher playing.... but letting them go back to play if they understand what I would be asking of the dogs. I also think they are then in a mental state to learn to listen to the human.
Great interview and talk. I love the play aspect of interaction when used as a reward. I specialize in training dogs using play and praise and I find it very effective and more fun than using food. There are few dog trainers who focus on this part of a dog's life. Thank you for sharing this talk.

As a marine mammal trainer we used the term superstitious behaviours differently . For example , say we are training a sealion to vocalize and they are bridged when their nose is open. We might not notice as we are focused on sound coming from the mouth . The opening of the nose is not what we bridged but it became part of the behaviour . We could selectively bridge through successive approximations to attempt to train it out but it’s a lot of effort that’s not really necessary . Or a dolphin dancing and it’s bridged while blinking , doesn’t really affect the behaviour but the mammal thinks it’s part of the behaviour .Can you explain the scientific definition? I’m confused with his use of the definition relating it to stress. Thank you

Hallo, ich bin aus Deutschland. Obwohl ich englisch sehr gut verstehe u den Gesprächen problemlos folgen kann, fällt es mir schwer wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen richtig zu verstehen. Kannst du mir einen Tipp geben, wo ich wissenschaftliche Studien u Veröffentlichungen zum Thema Verhaltensforschung, spez. Hunde auf deutsch nachlesen kann (wie z.B. the misbehavior of organisms). Gibt es da eine Plattform oder ähnliches? Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland PS: auf einem Seminar wurde neulich von BAS u BIS gesprochen u wie manche Hunde eher in dem einem u anderen in dem anderen Bereich arbeiten/gelagert sind u daher eher auf positive Verstärkung bzw. positive Bestrafung reagieren (es war natürlich detaillierter, nur ganz grob beschrieben, damit du weißt, in welche Richtung es ging). Ich würde mich riesig freuen, wenn du dieses Thema mal genauer beleuchten könntest.
