FULL Uncut Interview w/ Michael Ellis

Mariano and Brent had a chance to travel to the Michael Ellis School of Dog training in Northern CA. Getting to know Michael over the last couple of years has only strengthened our love and support of his mission to help educate the next generation of Dog trainers. Brent and Mariano had interviewed Michael before on their Podcast, but wanted to be sure to have top notch questions locked and loaded for our in person interview.
This video is a bit lengthy but those of you who are fans of dog training will be enthralled by his character, charisma, knowledge, and warm heart.
Please Enjoy!!

I'm so grateful Michael is so generous with his time and gives interviews like this. I'm not a trainer just a pet dog owner so will never get to meet him but I really admire his work and repeatedly reference the videos on Leerberg. He's an inspiration.

Every thing he said I got from him! Love the process, experiment, it’s ok to have it not work. He taught me to always push a little. If I mark now as opposed to than how I’ll that effect the out come. How do I get to this end, what are my pieces. Always know how my dog feels about it, how can I get him to feel differently. I could go on and on. This just thru his DVDS. I can’t imagine being with him in person. I am just an older lady dabbling in IGP with my Malinois. What he has put in me is love for training, and the love of relationship with the my dog. The figuring it out how I can make us a better team. Michael is the best!!❤️

I've coached a sport for 30 years and this interview even clarified much of what I had learned on my journey, that to an extent I had not totally clarified to myself. At 60 years of age I have recently trained two gundogs, my previous experience in sport has helped me understand my weaknesses and allowed me to take on board information regarding dog training and transform that into positive actions. From the time this guy starts talking, it's clearly worth listening to his every word, as none of his words are wasted.

Thanks for posting this. Really enjoyed it. I'm a retired kennel owner, breeder, trainer, trialer, etc. Related to so much of what he said. Well done.

I was psyched to see a new "hour with Michael Ellis" show up in my feed - but I gotta tell you guys, the uncut format didn't do it for me. Felt like the questions were disjoint and abrupt (e.g. 23:10) - interrupting the flow or theme or storyline - and interfered with the unique combination of depth and spontaneity that Michael is known for. I couldn't escape this feeling of awkwardness - that Michael rarely got really comfortable. He's at his best when his genuineness and authenticity shine through. Perhaps if you produce a finished version, some of this can be recaptured. For me, the format didn't work - sorry.

Totally agree with this comment, plus I have to add that the editing back and forth constantly from the two cameras was dizzying and finally I just had to listen to it like a podcast but stop looking at the video. Very sad because Michael is a great speaker.

I too, am a former student of Biogeography. I've never, "trained" a dog. I've developed a relationship. Much of what is done is behavior modification. I have to modify my dog's behavior to interact appropriately with an artificial environment for the dog. For instance, we live in houses or dwellings with property lines. Those are our territories. We have public territories where no one owns it. I've had to get dogs used to streets and parks being communal territories which cannot be owned. So I've modified my dog's behavior.
