When i was about 7 years old ( i'm 50 now ) my father had a picture of the Castle Bravo mushroom cloud hanging in his workplace. didn't know what it was, but it stick with me the rest of my life and i had many dreams as a child about the end of the world with that same mushroom cloud. Nowdays i've seen almost every documentary about the Atomic Bomb and the science behind it. strange how something you've seen so long ago, fascinates with you for the rest of your life and causes you to watch these kind of videos.

Have you ever watched the Always/Never 3 part documentary from Sandia Labs? If I remember correctly part 1 was about command and control, part 2 was about safety devices, and part 3 was radiation hardening on our ICBMS. Probably one of my favorite docs on the subject. Cheers!

My father worked at Maralinga (Australia) during the 1950s British tests. He had photos of the detonations that I would sneak a look at as a kid & it was both frightning + intriguing at that time. I still have those photos & feelings today.

Caste bravo is by far the best h bomb test film. I have to imagine it's because they were expecting 5 megaton blast and not 15 and were closer than they otherwise would have been. If you watch films of castle Romeo (11mt) and castle Yankee (13mt), both tested after bravo with similar devices, the film quality is terrible, super dark and far away compared to bravo. It's like they said, F this, were moving back a few feet (miles) this time. Hardtack-oak (9mt) is really cool too though but was cloudy so you don't see the fireball

@@robroskey6515 operation hardtack Poplar (9.8 megatons) was one of my favorite shots that shows the blast from the view of a camera plane. As far as my favorite example of the mushroom cloud is the Oak shot from same operation hardtack. Someone recently declassified a secondary view of the Nutmeg (21.5kt) barge blast from operation hardtack. It’s always stood out to me with the blast and subsequent Wilson cloud. The Castle series had great quality footage. The actual DoD documentary about operation castle and it’s tests is a good one too. Cheers!

Those of us who lived through the Cold War have certain memories like that. I had 2 vivid dreams in the mid-80s as a teen of dying in a nuclear bomb explosion: the light...the sound...the heat wave...and then whoosh, I was floating up in the air above my (dead) body. I woke up screaming from the 2nd one. The Cold War was such a real thing, for so long...younger folk today can't fully comprehend it, I think. As Capt. Ramius puts it in 'Hunt For Red October'..."I've been at war for 40 years: a war with no monuments, no battles...only casualties."

The physics of nuclear tests is interesting. When nuclear physics, energy, and mechanics all meet and clash in a chaotic orchestration.

You can see a whole bunch of these domes from the highway near the wingate aurforce base. The irony of ironies are that they store plutonium weapons cores from the cold war in them, some are ful and others are empty with only a neutron source to confuse anybody trying to break in one. 😮

It's awesome that you're doing this, but 3 hours is about the standard time for editing things like this. Seems simple enough, but even simplicity has complications with it.

Please never use that VoiceOver again. It absolutely detracts from the video itself. Better to just go the Primitive Technology way and use subtitles alone if you aren't going to have an actual person give a VoiceOver that doesn't make a viewer hate the video or turn it off.

The problem is, that the ATC would have to spend a lot of time on it. Trust me, ATC would get burned out. Plus, having to triple check the conversion of voice to text. One other thing, if someone is visually impaired... Primitive Technology puts out a few videos each year. BTW, P.T. does a great job of showing how to make things using a stone axe. His current project is to get enough iron from the streams to make a tool (either a knife or axe head).

While I appreciate the content especially with footage that was previously undisclosed, I don't appreciate you letting us know how it took you three whole hours to edit this video and that you would appreciate support. 3 hours is nothing. I edit video for a living that sometimes I have to work on for days, but then I get paid for that. The content that I put on my channel sometimes has edits that has taken as long as 6 hours, but I expect nothing in return. No matter how long it takes, don't complain about it. In the end it's you wanting to put the content out and we appreciate it. See if you can get an English speaking human to do your voiceovers also. I'll even volunteer on that one.

While I sort-of agree, if you check the community posts on his channel it appears he's been spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars out of his own pocket getting stuff like this scanned. Of course that was his choice, we the viewer aren't obligated to send him money for his passion project and he isn't entitled to it, but him saying he'd appreciate support is not a big deal.

I have appreciation for his work, exception being the AI generated voice in this one; I however find the request distasteful in that he brought up editing times as the reason for the need. I believe I made that clear. That is why I said something in the first place. It might come across as callous, but it's honest. I thought my comment through before submitting it. It is a sincere critique. As such, my mind is not changed, but you are (of course) welcome to monetarily succumb to the guilt driven urges of your conscience.@@cod6guy12
