UNSUNG HEROES OF ILLUSTRATION 43

Four more criminally neglected illustrators and they are a particularly diverse bunch so there should be something here to get your attention.
Many thanks to Richard Streeter for introducing me to the stunning fantasy work of John R. Neill. How had I previously missed such a talent?
In chronological appearance: Franz Stassen, John R. Neill, Emmerico Nunes and Tibor Gergely.

    Hello Michael, and I don't think there's any doubt about that. Although I had a reasonable run in the profession, enjoyed most of it, and always managed to keep a roof over my head I was always a spear-carrier rather than the main attraction. Don't regret it though, even if I wish I had my time over to do it all better...

    The unintentional consequences of WAR, has always yielded a tremendous loss of both our art history and humanity. The annihilation of human life is never a fair trade for destroying our humanity, beauty, and culture. We desperately need a vaccine to rid us of stupidity, anger, and hate. Although I love Faust, I was in need of the lightheartedness and joy of the children’s illustrations. Thank You!

    Hello and thanks. I try to strike a balance between both the dark and lighter side of our behaviour and how it's reflected in illustration. In many ways I think illustration is a more relevant record of history than art itself.

    How strange! John R. Neill was my gateway drug into early 20th century illustrators-- including Arthur Rackham. Pete, in these very sad and scary times your features always lift my spirits. There are many questions I’d like to ask you, but the one I find most curious is...why you use a horse or horse riding motif in the title image for all your “Unsung” videos?

  • @petebeard

    @petebeard

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello Len and thanks for your appreciation. And the reason for the horse and rider theme was that when I thought I might make as many as a half dozen of these videos I took the idea of 'heroes' as a visual theme (the hero on horeseback concept). But then when I realised how many more I'd be making I saw it as a challenge to see if I could persist with it - at least loosely. Amd now I'm kind of stuck with it. Bet you weren't expecting such a longwinded explanation.
