Hi, that was fun to watch! Many photos, that I haven't seen before. Thanks! I might add, that MTX was accually developing the car alone. They started in 80s under the iron curtain. It was supposed to by a safety car for formula races. After the fall of comunism, they transformed the project for comercial use and tried to sell the project to Tatra to produce it. However, Tatra was not interested. All produced cars were just prototypes, that were sold. The third - black car - had fuel injected engine. That is where the "i" in the name comes from. That car was in the Kanye movie. Nobody knows, where the american one is. It basicaly doesn't exist. But the news are, that MTX is planning to produce more units of the car. Which is kind of obscure, since it is 30 year old design. If you like MTX, you can dig deeper and find some more treasures like MTX 160RS. Another sports car that MTX developed and tried to sell it for production. This time it was Skoda

It's a sad story as Tatra was pre WW2 one of the most innovative car builder and would have deserved some success with a modern sport car. They made small popular cars, the design of wich is said to have inspired the original VW, and also large high performance V8 sedans that was unrivaled in the 1935-45 era. This air/oil-cooled V8s was the basis of a line of motor that culminated in the MTX Tatra V8. If Czechoslovakia hadn't fall into the communist block after the war Tatra would probably still be one of the great european car maker.

I think few (outside of Germany) can argue that Porsche pinched the Beetle design from CZ

I remember the 80's where we in the UK and Europe laughed and laughed at the rear drive Skoda's - but those in the know knew how successful they were in the rally world. Then there was Tatra, little known other than for making trucks (fast trucks) often seen in the Paris Dakar but some of us had followed them for a long while and again those in the know when talking about the early years of VW & Ferdinand Porsche would say "hang on a minute, you do realise that the Beetle wasn't the work of Porsche but actually was pinched from Tatra" just know there's something serious to take from our Czech cousins, the first with aircooled V8's in the 603, 613 and 700 - cars loved by the KGB no less (early ones that is). And then came Praga. Arguably the oldest auto maker in the world. Their Bohemia is a thing of stunning beauty - their track success is legendary. No ones laughing now........

That Tatra is being built in Poland as we speak.... They got original body, and the rest is coming from donor sedan car

Ik would buy one if possible. I love this design, I don't care about the performance. The story is great. I hope I will see one in my lifetime.

That is kinda sad that it ended like that no shady practices or anything like it no just unlucky

Everything in our country was unlucky in taht time.... we had communists and they said normal people don't need supercars. So every Czech/czechoslovakian supercars were lost in history and forgotten.

"The originally announced production was destroyed by a fire in the production company, yet after thirty years the project is still not dead and a week ago in Kopřivnice it was announced that Metalex will produce another 10 units in cooperation with Tatra Trucks. The cars should be technically identical to their thirty years older sisters. "The original MTX Tatra V8 is a raw, spartan supercar, driving which is not only a great experience, but also an art, which is why our customers do not want any modern technologies such as ABS or power steering. It's definitely not a car for everyone," says Přemysl Baláž, who is not only the owner of the first red MTX Tatra V8, but also the complete project, including production preparations and design and production rights. He also confirmed that Tatra and Metalex have already secured the necessary parts for the production of the promised miniseries, including ten Tatra engines, the production of which ended many years ago."

The story about the factory that burned down before even the real production have started reminds me a story of a Polish car company from late 1920's and early 1930's that was named Ralf-Stetysz. Of course, these weren't any of the high-performance cars, this brand intended to produce just regular passager cars. But the story is almost exactly the same. A factory was established in a country that basically had little to no automobile production history (even as fro 1920's). They made approximately 300 of these cars before a fire outbroke in the factory itself and burned everything down: the machinery, parts and even a small amount of just freshly assembled vehicles. The owner wanted to rebuild the factory from the insurence money he had, but for some reason he didn't end up doing that and instead he turned into advertising and selling car accessories.
