Unscripted Swar Vistaar in any Raga

Музыка

Indian Classical presents an opportunity to every practitioner to delve deeper into its rich raga based repertoire comprising of varied notes. However, it is these very notes, forming the base of every exploration, which remains largely elusive especially when it comes to swar vistaar (weaving a prelude to the presentation of bandish).
I therefore wish to disseminate the way to accomplish the same through a series of notes though taken chronologically at the initial stages and then making the structure more complex as we forge ahead with our exploration.
For the purpose, I have opted for a basic raga, Bhupali, as many can identify with the same and has attempted to throw some light on arranging of notes to come up with your own interpretation.
My intention here is clear, to give you an objective understanding of creating these phrases with the help of notes while adhering to the basic rules of the raga.
If you wish to interact with me, youare always welcome to my one on one online Indian Music lessons on skype.

Sir - i just realised how fortunate I am! meri ma'am ne jaise mujhe sikhaaya hai, I didn't even know that anything else than pure improvisation is even possible...if people are having to learn pre-scripted phrases and nothing else, then they clearly haven't been doing endless amounts of sapaat and chalan repetitions...if someone does thousands and thousands of repetitions of sapaat and chalan of a raag over a long period of time EVERY DAY without fail, then spontaneous improvisation is merely the next natural step anyway. Dimaag apne aap chalne lagega, vistaar apne aap aayega - no problem....this is how I have been made to learn and then it's easy! our ma'am is truly amazing! thank you for an amazing video yet again Nishant ji!

Lovely to hear from you Sir ji, this is my favourite topic! I love to come up with my own notes which I keep doing without knowing the exact notes, by just using A O La Na, basically trying to create some tune that goes on in my mind at some moments! Since I am not yet well versed in the notations I am unable to use the exact notes to practice!

Thank you. I too appreciate. Learn to play a key based instrument, preferably harmonium as it lays the foundation for identifying the base note and basic chord structure to discern the progression of notes. It is all about conscious practice on consistent basis.

This question is as interesting as important. ‘Pakad’ of a raga, written anywhere, is only a fixed preliminary introduction of a raga. Since every book mentions a different ‘pakad’, there is no original ‘pakad’ therefore. So, how can we have our own ‘pakad’? Take into account the aroha-avroha and vaadi-samvaadi as well and imagine a set of notes centring around these two prominent notes in particular. You will see a ‘pakad’ emerging on its own. Don’t memorize or write it down as it is not our objective to fix it forever. Enjoy the same and next time when you sit, keep the same points in mind to experience a new set of notes culminating in a new ‘pakad’ this time. This imaginative technique is applicable to vocals and as well as instrument playing, including your flute.

I think the success of your teaching is , you start challenging the intellect and not the throat directly ! Thanks .. I always face this as a challenge to introduce a new note out of nowhere ! Whereas , ( generally ) the introduction should happen in the form of कण swar earlier before it is presented fully .. This is my learning from this video .. Thanks again .. and keep challenging us !!
