Unreal Video of China from 1900s Restored in Color!
An extraordinary window on to the heart of cosmopolitan Shanghai over a hundred years ago - a true melting pot of cultures. Today the city's main shopping hub, Nanjing Road is here bustling with crowds of Chinese and Europeans and patrolled by Sikhs who made up an important part of the international police force. It is the only known surviving example of the film reportage shot by British war correspondent Joe Rosenthal during his coverage of the Boxer Rebellion in China between 1900 and 1901. This footage has been colorized, upscaled and restored to bring it into the modern world.

If you filmed this exact same spot today, it would probably look like any other Western street in the world. What a shame.

Culture around the world is being lost. It’s good to preserve these cultures

I live in Shanghai!... 10 times better than any western street, epic infrastructure, clean, safe at any time of the day or night. Still filled with traditional chinese sites and temples everywhere, new and ancient. Many of the old areas have been restored in the past 5 years and became new tourist attractions. Many of the crappy ones were torn down and replaced by new developments, parks or modern shopping malls but still the ¨chinese essence¨ is everywhere. There is nothing to be ashamed of, we got the best of both worlds. Come to visit someday. ;)
