Myths In Mental Health Stigma.
Nobody "causes" mental illness, but mental health matters. Trauma causes distress and injury, but bad parenting does not cause schizophrenia. Mental health takes root in the brain and behavior.
Human health and disease are complex and harder to understand than the people are trying to blame parenting. Really, mental health matters go beyond the family unit. SZ tendencies are part of our species.
We can call this The Mothering Myth. This myth requires a little medical education and mental health awareness.

Note: I'm not defending troubled relationships and abuse, just that you cannot draw a straight line between "what the mother did" and "why I have psychotic symptoms." That's that.
BC Schizophrenia Society is running a campaign to raise awareness about myths and facts regarding schizophrenia. Affecting 1 in 100 individuals roughly, with billions of humans on Earth this is a great matter of human health.
