I honestly love this series very much; I know it's not Harry Potter, but that's the point: it should be enjoyed on its own merit, and once you get past that, then you're in for a wild ride! I enjoy the dynamic Strike and Robin have, and I love how much they grow as characters throughout the series. I expect the very best from this series, and on JKR'/Galbraith's part, it delivers. I cannot wait to see what mysteries they solve in the future

People who openly want a 'boring' life are often people who have lived through a period of high fear or trauma - so Lucy can't be discounted because she wants a boring life. However I agree - unlikely. For shock value - I'd vote for Joan. A woman would more likely rise to a fury over mistreatment of children they love. Thanks for the kitten - very helpful. And the vid - funny & interesting!

Yeah I thought Lucy's life choices were a trauma reaction but I can't bet on her being a killer nor Joan ... I have nothing to back up Joan not doing it, i just couldn't live with it!!

My theory is that Gilespie did it...but he didn't do it for himself or to protect himself. I think we're going to find out that once Leda found out she was pregnant with Whittaker's baby she started trying to get access to the funds that Gilespie had tied up, assuming, rightly as we learned, that Strike wouldn't want to touch them. So, in her mind, if he wasn't going to access them, then they'd be fair game. So I think either Rokeby, through Gilespie, or Gilespie acting of his own accord, murdered her. And I don't think he'd have hired someone else to do it for him. I think he'd have done it himself. He IS a lawyer, and he'd know better than most, that the more people you entrust with a secret, the more chances you have for that secret to come back to haunt you. I think it likely went down similar to the way you posited, that he either met her to give her money or drugs...and when he realized she was alone and maybe stoned (because Cormoran also told us that she'd never done heroin...but weed was up her alley) he took the opportunity to inject her and then left with the envelope of cash, leaving behind only the needle in her arm and a ton of questions.

Strong idea! I can't remember how old Strike was when Switch was born? I think it was around 18 and his Mum wouldn't be able to act on his behalf finacially after his 18th birthday to go get at the money?... not long now till book seven and more clues for us to pour over!

Me again. Love this post. Cat mad at flowers is outstanding. Exactly why your vids are such fun. However, I don't subscribe to the 'Charlotte is evil' characterisation. Charlotte is a troubled woman just as Leda was a troubled woman. Maybe that is why Cormoran is so invested in them. Leonora Quine is another woman in that category. Cormoran worked very hard to exonerate her. In the knowledge that his efforts would almost certainly be fee free. Passing up a possibly lucrative future by dismissing William baker as a client. I see Strike as protective of women. Troubled women particularly. Which is why I think the heart of this series is not so much the will they/won't they relationship between Strike and Ellacott. Like you say they 100% will, but Leda Strike. Was she killed?. And if so whodunnit? I've now read 'The Running Grave' 3 times. And am re-reading the entire series from the start. I'm not sure the timeline totally makes sense. That is the major reason for the re-read. Also according to this post, J.K. seeded clues in the first 3 books to the rest of the series. Where can I find that video? Finally, totally out of nowhere, will Strike survive the series? That occurred to me very strongly during the 3rd re-read of 'The Running Grave'. I think because Robin has now grown so much as to be able to carry on alone. Not saying she'd want to. Or would like to. But I wouldn't be surprised if she had to carry on alone for some reason. J.K has proved she can throw a bomb anytime anywhere. Charlotte's suicide is a case in point. That was such a shock I had to read it several times before I fully grasped it. Anyway brilliant post. Thanks V much.

Thanks for the lovely comment! I've read TRG once and listened to the audio book, been going back to certain bits to check things as I write a video(s?) about it so I'm impressed you've managed it three times! Yes the Charlotte arc is a complicated one but having dealt with it myself and been very close to others with mental health issues I'm with Strike when he says it was a choice. She had the best medical help money could buy and by the looks of things refused treatments because she loved being a dramatic mess. Ultimately she did herself a lot of damage and that is sad but (if she were real) she had more access to help than the average person and squandered them. The NHS waiting lists for mental health treatments are intense! There is no helping people who do not want to be helped sadly. Me calling her Evil was more of a sort of joke but I do fully believe her to be capable of Evil now that she has faked cancer to try and get Corm back! The JKR quote I referenced as being 'in the first three books' comes from this interview with her during the promo for Career of Evil (www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/strike-evil/jk/) "Through the whole of the first three books I have seeded future plots. I already know where he’s going to go and I’ve already mentioned things I need to mention. I’ve mentioned people I need to have mentioned, because you will meet them in further books." She has also said it on stage during a question panel... pretty sure Val mcdermid was there but I can't for the life of me find it again on youtube sorry. I took from her saying this that the killer must have been mentioned, always a chance I'm wrong though! Timelines and dates mean nothing in these books unfortuneatly as the author does not appear to be able to count :/ (hard same!) As for Robin not needing Strike, true but I don't think he'll 'not survive' could see him in jail wrongly accused of something and Robin having to be the hero and getting him out or a situation similar, would be great seeing her in that position and reach ultimate peak bad-ass!! Thanks again for being so nice
