Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

how is it that a site that possibly doesn't have an inexhaustible budget can consistently have such beautiful and appropriate soundtracks? It goes without saying that the videos betray a seasoned and talented artistic eye. Possibly the same that does the beautiful drawings?

Watching your videos makes me feel like home ❤ It's similar to my village near Castelo de Bode. We're now selling my grandparents property and my parents home. This means loosing our roots as we're getting older and have no means to keep them or give those properties the previous glory. I've been living in Kent for the last 10 years. I feel so nostalgic right now. Retired since July last year I can go back to Portugal for 2-3 months and revisit my village and family while our properties aren't sold.

I was on a cruise ship a couple of years ago (on our way to Gibraltar) that got hit with the Saharan dust cloud. Imagine a wet ship covered in Saharan sand dust. Every single surface looked like we'd gone through a sand blasting. The poor crew jumped to it and cleaned every visible outside surface in about an hour. Very impressive! I've read, and have no idea if it works, mix a really hot chili powder in with the spray. Use a teaspoon of dish soap and a half teaspoon of chili powder. Spray liberally. Chili powder also repels ants if you sprinkle it across door entries into the house. Dogs and cats will leave it alone. (usually) Everything looks like it greened up nicely with the rain. It may be a pain now, but remember this in August when it's hot, dry and miserable! Lol! (especially when you've run out of layers to take off because of the heat.) Your artwork is lovely, as always. I love art, but I can't draw for love nor money.

Iwan, as a fellow broken rib-recoverer: To stop a sneeze, press and hold your first finger firmly against your upper lip just under your nose (like a straight moustache), and hold it there for 10-15 seconds or until the sneezing urge subsides. Repeat whenever needed. Learning this was a game-changer!

The other tip I would recommend is if you feel it coming - hug yourself around the middle bend over forming a 90’ right angle and sneeze with your mouth open. It sounds like I am pranking you but it works, I had walking pneumonia for 10 weeks several years ago and coughed so long and so hard and so violently that I broke 3 ribs from all the coughing.

You have a nice spring cleaning now. And sausage socks-trees, would be a lovely drawing! Lady bugs can be replaced for neem oil, but you also can use tabaco tea, i call it. A half pack of shag with plus minus 1 litre of hat water. Wait until tomorrow, sieve it and spray it over the plant. Works very well. Place the sifted tobacco on the bottom around the plant and they do not return. Ants don't like golden maries.

Use the middle part of your index finger to get good surface area. It compresses a nerve and stops the sneeze in its tracks. It works a treat.

Love that you are naming flora and fauna. Most is exotic to me. What a great idea segmenting your area. You can still do your projects but spend one day a week in an area over a month or so and do things that need doing in a cyclical fashion ❤ i may need to set up something similar. A good way to review what needs doing and prioritising too. Mmmm 🤔 definitely provoking lots of thoughts on how i can improve homesteading systems and avoid constant double handling. You could add chicken poo/straw to your compost too. If its at least 1m3 it heats up quickly. Can you lasagne layer your new beds with grass, straw/chicken poo? I get so much enjoyment watching your woven fences come together ❤

It’s really helped to feel organised with the land 😊 ahh maybe I’ll try it with another bed, I know chicken manure needs a bit of time to rot down though 🐓

Neem oil worked great on black aphids in my garden, and again where are work as a landscaper on euphorbia plants!

I would happily read a book about Frankie! Aphids - they actually respond more to the spraying than what product is sprayed. Spray them daily or leave those 2 as sacrificial offerings to the ants and aphids.

So pleased to hear you are enjoying the book & hopefully it will be useful I love the way you both approach the land work 👍relaxed but productive the wild flower meadow is stunning ( professional gardeners motto is NO MOW MAY ) giving seeds to fall germinate for next season so good thinking . Endless rain can be a drag but you have found a way to be productive indoors first day of spring in many areas of UK ( Norfolk) we had gale force artic winds hail rain & sunshine in one day ( unseasonably chilly ) Have good Easter 🐣

Like the Lercher, has he come in too contact with a boar yet. Grapes are best grown on the goiter system, that's 3 horizontal wires and plant 2 meters apart and cut the new shoots after 4 bunches of flower buds have appeared.. When you cut your Mimosa down leave all summer to dry then use on the stove as burns very hot. Hope you got enough water stored as today's rain is about the last apart from the odd thunderstorm. It's a lot easier to strim if you use a blade rather than a plastic line, then it will cut any woody stuff you come into contact with when strimming.

I love the flowers!!! To prevent a sneeze try saying the word pineapple right before. Another method is rubbing the bridge of your nose up and down. Take good care!!! I love the channel thank you for posting!!! ✨🦋💙

Oh, one more thing, if you have comfrey, a comfrey root poultice on the ribs works great for fracture healing.

sausage dog is simply the best. instead of people sponsoring for coffee's perhaps they could sponsor for socks lol. i always put my socks in a was net wash bag when i take them off then zip it up and chuck it in the was, so it keeps all the socks together in 1 place and so much easier when it comes to putting them away.

You're videos are a still sea in an ocean of wavy, noisy storms and I love them. Diogo is just the perfect companion. You have a cosy, lovely, idyllic world and more power to you. Like less the commercial aspect but if it helps pay for your lifestyle I will grin and bear it!! diolch i'r ddau ohonoch

Another beautiful and interessting video. Such a joy to watch (and listen to, Vivaldi might bring spring next time😊). Frankie looks real sharp, thin and young with her new haircut! But of course she has to be in shape to steal all your socks. I love all your sweet pets. This week I think Joao took most of the spotlight. So happy and full of energy. Diogo under the blanket=❤. How dismal they all seemed about the constant rain. Can't blame them. See you next week😊
