Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

By the way, people, when we like the videos and like the comments and comment our own selves it goes into the KZread algorithm to give prime placement to the video to attract the more likely viewers who will like these videos. Then the ways to get money for Clarissa and her family are better. Albi and fur babies. Blessed be every one. I just learned to watch the ads a little longer before hitting the skip button at the end of the intro to the ad. It shows more interest and gives more click money.

Congratulations on reaching 50k, well done! Your farm is lovely, all your hard work is turning the land into a beautiful and productive haven for all life forms (excepting perhaps those venomous centipedes, they could move elsewhere...). It is absolutely frightening how ferociously the fresh green mimosa catches fire, I do so hope that one day you are able to acquire the mimosa infested land that is so close to your house.

While Cari was baking the cake I had to put it on pause....so I could admire your KITCHEN, it has truly come a long way from what you started with. The GARDEN, even with its Spring Explosion, now is showing its structure, instead of the neglected wilderness it was. Last but not least is DEIGO; that abandoned, skinny, SICK baby has become a healthy, handsome, (little bit of a show-off) much loved brother and 4-legged child. hi carissa a top tip to pulling carrots out is if you push them down first, then pull the out they come out easier. i will be honest i havent tried it, but will do when i next plant up and the harvest is ready. the tip came from a a friend whos had an allotment for 40years and he says it works.also he says if you seed them in toilet rolls in your greenhouse and plant them out when ready in the toilet rolls the cardboard breaks down in the soil and you get straighter carrots that dont wrap around each other and the carrot tops you can save and make into a pesto

I *LOVE* your Ginko t-shirt that Carissa wore in the first few minutes. So much so that I bought one a few weeks ago and wore it at a family gathering. I'm experimenting with a white t-shirt in hope I can make it stay white past the first wash. Most people initially thought it was a mushroom (!) so I really enjoyed telling them about how ancient a plant it is, how it relates to other trees, how useful it is medicinally ... I can bore on for many hours. I tried to get others to buy them from your merchandise shop, too....

@@FrankieOffGrid I've never seen a bee-eater - it's a 'bucket list' bird for me: something to be sure to see before I slough off this mortal coil (not due anytime soon). I'd also add a) the Australian magpie because I want to hear it for myself in its native habitat, and b) a British resident White-tailed eagle (Sea Eagle). Maybe I should add Boobies in the Caribbean because who doesn't love boobies?

Spring is finally making an appearance, slow though it may be. We've got our first buds on the trees and hedges. It's time to plant seedlings and hope that we don't get any freak snow storms. It's been known to happen all the way to late May. I'm with you! Sweet potatoes are yummy! The carrot cake looks good. Have you ever tried zucchini bread? Equally good if you're growing them. You call them courgettes? Sorry for the spelling error. Can you swim in that pond? It looks like it would be nice on a hot day. So, with all your Mimosa headaches, that's another plant I'll avoid planting. The wildflowers look beautiful. See you next week! Blessed Be!

I rarely comment on any channel, but I have managed site workers most of my career in helping them to optimize their physical work. Rather than picking up handfuls of clippings and walking back and forth to form a larger pile, I suggest using a small tarp to drop your clippings on and dragging a much larger quantity to where you want them. Also, bring a tarp along to each pruning or grass raking location and collect as you go.

I've grafted apple trees on my allotment and now have two trees with lots of different varietes, but I'm no expert! They say you should try to cut the V shaped bit with flat sides so no air gets in when you slot it into the slit and so they sit flush next to each other with the green bit in contact. I use a Stanley knife and cut on a chopping borad which is easy to carry about my allotment. I use different coloured electrical tape to hold the V shaped scion and the slit in the twig together very firmly to keep the air out and to stop them coming apart if it's windy or something knocks them. It's sightly stretchy, so easy to apply a good bit of force, and also I can tell the different types apart by using different colours! The cling film should work if you tied it very firmly around the union so it can't wobble about. I was astonished when about half of the first lot I tried worked! I put PVA on any cut on the end to stop the scion driying out as well, instead of grafting wax. It seems to work. If your graft is held together firmly enough with no air or moisture getting into it should work. There are lots of different joins, but the one you have tried is the easiest. Good luck! Excellent simple cake recipe too. I'll try that. 😋

Congrats on 50k. Knew you’d do it. Those carrot leaves are good chicken treats but they also make a great pesto!
