Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

I've been watching you for a while as both my brothers are in central Portugal doing similar projects. I've seen many videos from different people, but can honestly say I find yours the most enjoyable. You are clearly a lovely couple and your love for your animals warms my heart. I'd like to say, having read other comments, that none of your video is boring, the intro sets the mood and feeling for what is to come perfectly. I really wish people would keep comments positive after all your hard work and talent producing beautiful videos for people like us to watch. I wish you well with everything you are doing. Take care.
When we watch your videos, our cat, Monty is absolutely glued to the screen! It's the funniest thing ever, he's never been interested in TV before but he sits on the floor in front of the telly lol
While I thoroughly enjoy your content, watching you and your animal companions interact is the best part of your channel❤ I especially like watching Frankie and Diogo - you are very lucky to have them in your lives. My absolute favorite KZread video is when you first found Diogo along the road when he was injured. The initial pictures of him with Clarissa on the sofa, his eyes were just begging to be loved - it absolutely melted my heart. Please give him a kiss for me (and Frankie too)😘
Two and a half minutes in this video I have to comment how beautiful and poetic it is. You are a true master of fimling and editing.

I am very happy to see that your animals are such keen helpers. Even the chickens. 😊 You would have probably gone nowhere with your work without them.... 😁😊😉
The past and the future perfectly married. The past being the music and the future being off grid. Great video guys.
Watching the both of you work on your land is quite calming and also funny at times,😍.
Nice to see you working so hard to make things better on your land. As always i enjoyed seeing your pets being precious! Thanks for the visit! See you next time!
Thank you as always for allowing us to share in your journey. You are lovely people and the life you are creating is inspiring. Yes, it is a great deal of hard work, but being independent takes effort. And you've really done a beautiful job in creating these videos. Like so many who have comments I'm delighted to see you furry friends sharing the day with you both. I'm glad to have subscribed and look forward to whatever you decide to share with us. Your sponsors are very smart to be supporting you. Enjoy the coming Spring.
Wow, another amazing video! I always feel such a sense of calmness & peace when I watch your videos. What an ingenious solution for your grey water! I just love that you are so thoughtful about every aspect of your land and your lives off grid. We need more people like you in the world, it would be a much better place…. Have a lovely week & take care, xx💕🇨🇦
Another flawless video. The music, the animals and your work ethic is amazing. I look so forward to Saturday morning knowing I have another FOG video.
❤ I love how curious all the fur babies are. They get right in the middle of the action, the music was awesome, another great video.
Good video folks. If you get into the habit of wiping your plates, pans etc with kitchen roll or whatever, before you wash them in the sink, then you won't get any food waste down the pipe into your soakaway. We got so much into the habit of doing this in our campervan to stop having a smelly tank, it's now second nature to do it at home and before we put anything in our dishwasher. Apologies if you've already thought of this 😂😂
So cute how excited the dogs became when they saw you digging a hole. How fun are they. Then they digging.
I always love your intro. I love the look of olive trees. It reminds me when I was a kid growing up in southern California (back in the 1960's). We lived in farmland with orange, walnut, and olive groves, as well as carrot and watermelon fields. Unfortunately, it is all houses now.

Eagerly waiting for the results of the grey water system!!!Enjoy the week ahead. 🇬🇷 🇬🇷
Just beautiful! Everything: music, plants, animals, and fascinating work. Thank you for a lovely Saturday morning!
Good morning guys! Loved seeing how the doggies and cats helped digging. This will definitely help you guys with the smell. Great job. Love and be safe!😘🤗🌼🇻🇪

Frankie's ears when she digs lol, they are both so entertaining.👍😂
Strain before you drain and the system will last a lot longer. Loved your miss matched socks (thanks to Frankie!)
Another well done video. Beautiful filming and music.❤
Good morning, Carissa and Iwan. I like your solution for the gray water. Frankie and Diogo were such good help with the digging😂 See you next week❤️❤️
I love looking at all your animals-they are beautiful & loved by you guys so much
Sausage helped herself to a blue and a gray that should match the socks Narissa was wearing during filming today. Your dog is so memorable! Interesting video! Thanks!
Looks like a proper mini leech field to me!(minus the cats, of course) Well done! The thing I love about tires is you can paint them and make planters, pound earth in them and use them as foundations for buildings, cut them and use them as borders etc. The list is almost infinite. They are cheap, long lasting, and don't get blown away in a good stiff wind!
Sublime video as always.Love the waste water idea and I have full confidence that after all this time you know exactly whats going down your sink.Tyres are great for young trees and bushes to avoid strimmer destruction..and also water retention
I love the way the cats like to hang around while you are doing things. More so than the dogs! You would feel very much alone I think without the dogs and cats! I feel sorry for people who have never had or can’t be bothered to have pets. They are missing out on so much!!! It is always such a pleasure watching your videos!!! Have a great week! ❤️🙏🏼😎👋🏻🇨🇦
I can understand why the raspberries are planted with in the tyres. They will out grow the tyres in a few years. Good job, both of you, plus assistance from des animos.
You two work so hard together with the help of your critters. All very content together 😊
Greetings from Devon. No t-shirts here! Lovely video, as usual. Diego and Frankie and Albi were particularly helpful. Love the raspberries!
Good job, best of luck with it. Having done similar projects one thing I would advise is to mark the route of the pipe somehow. Learnt the hard way myself that over time with grass growing over the area its easy to accidently dig through the pipe. With the next one I put a garden path over the route. Just a thought.

Great video , loved the fur babies input , great helpers . I think frankie is the foreman 😂😂xxxxx
Just beautiful, the other four legged players were fantastic too ❤️
Hi you could join up your shower to the same system great work you two it may help with irrigation as well xx
Dear Carissa and Iwan, thank you very much for your videos. So wonderful to look at and experience, the nature, all the animals and so much harmony. So grateful for this, this helps me enormously through a difficult period in my life, I have been dealing with illnesses for a long time, now I have Covid. Fortunately, things are slowly improving and these videos and what they radiate are really of great significance. ❤🙏
I grow lots of raspberries, both red and yellow. Planting then on top of the water drain feild is smart because they require a lot of water especially during fruiting time. They will eventually out grow your tires but for getting them established it's good. Love your videos and your pets.
Love it when a family work together 😁, now just teach the cats to dig as fast as the dogs and your laughing all the way to China 🇨🇳 lol 😂,
The grey water system looks very good. I personally wouldn't use tyres in my food garden as they leach out all sorts of chemicals.
Hiya you too , just an idea for a shower I've a picture but not sure how to send Get two ibc tanks cut the top off one and the bottom off the other leaving lip to fix together one on top of each other . Cut a door way out but leave a lip to step into cube . Place the now two cubes on some bricks and pipe your shower outlet to your soak away .you can either put a door on the outside or a curtain . Add a small extractor fan fit in your shower head a shelf and a standing board on the floor . You could even put a led light inside .. You could even attach this to your cabin for your bedroom and have a door between shower and bed room .it's like a ensuite .👍👍

Plant some reeds in your soak away also .
What a good idea! My father made one at his own house. He called it a perish/expire pit. I called it a wonderfull idea! Only his pit was vertical. I don't know if that pit ever got smelly though. It was wunderful to watch you both again. Thank you for al that work you put in those videos.
I think you need two or three Dachshunds to help you dig holes there mate!! They are good badger dogs and love burrowing into holes and so forth!! But I don't think Diego quite gets it even though he means well!! LOL!!
Hope all your hard work pays off.🎉
Interesting system. I hope it is successful. The animals loved the channels you built. Very peaceful music.
You should paint some sort of design on those tires since you're a great artist. ❤ love your garden 🪴
Iwan such hard work all that digging 👍 I hope the grey water experiment is successful 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hi! you can plant a willow tree or other plants near your gray water hole, to clean the water.
Doing really well now .good luck and your animals are fab xx
Your dogs are too funny!
Love the animals as well..Frankie is my favorite! ❤ Btw have you guys consider filtering through charcoal it might eliminate the smells..maybe
👍 Thank you for sharing 🤠🐢 a lot of hard work 💚💚💚
Absolutely love your videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️ It's called bed rock 😄
Gravel as filtration is great but if it could run through a pond of fish and then through bulrushes and then oxygenate over water steps - you’ve got pretty pure water!
I do hope I am wrong, but that pipe will block with foodstuff, oils, fats and sediment, you will then have difficulty clearing it as it is so narrow and you have no inspection/access chamber or rod eyes. I suggest that you need a filter below the sink outlet to catch solids. Do not under any circumstance allow your fats, coffee grinds and tea leaves to drain into this pipe.
@FrankieOffGrid

Haha I too hope you’re wrong! We are pretty good at not letting solids go down the sink, 3 years of having to empty the bucket definitely improves the ‘Chuck it down the sink’ mentality 😅

I was thinking the same! Don’t wash any greasy/oily pans and let the water into the drain. That would build up and you have a blockage very quickly. I think waste pipes are normally much wider. But if you are careful hopefully it will work. I always dry off the pan with kitchen paper before washing and sometimes it doesn’t even need to be washed with water. A cast iron pan is better off not being washed in water

Thanks for sharing your story ❤ an interesting way to deal with your grey water!
I guess that you have already thought of this but just in case.... I live in Greece and need a cheap way to add organic matter to our garden soil. Often the places that sell firewood give away bark chips. You cant use them straight onto veg beds but you can add them to the compost or put them on paths, then after about 1 year the soil is fantastic and can be added as compost to the veg garden.
Greeting from East Tennessee! Love your videos. Keep up the good work!
If you put the wheelbarrow facing in the direction you want to go before filling it you may find it easier. 8:41
Great solution for your grey water, the heat gun works wonders on the pvc plumbing fittings, it makes a huge difference for plumbing jobs, great hack.👍
I’ve been following your videos for a while now and an old man I love the enthusiasm of your presentation. Unfortunately this one the music was so depressing. Wishing you good luck and all the best and look forward to your next video 😊
Hi both just a note for the future. In PT Tlthe black pipe you used as a waste line. Is high pressure pipe to connect mains water signified by the blue stripe. There is a equivalent low pressure version that has no stripe that is significantly cheaper per m. Use the low pressure version for waste and garden irrigation, I hope that helps, take care D
It took me 1/2 way through before the fog cleared , and then the explain, well done, I thought for a moment you had gone all luke and sara on us (soil samples) the resolution is very good, or my tv is working again Hmmm ... take care you two..
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless us all in divine light.

You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
To provide you with hot water , why do you not have a solar heated tank on the roof. As seen in Mediterranean countries i.e the stainless steel tank and thermal panel under it. No electricity required.
Nice tune. The voice is Cosima Lamberth. Thought for a moment it was an Invaders’ cover.
I would even build a lean too on your kitchen as I did in Greece .I built a small wall around the lean too lapped timber on the outside and insulation inside and osb board .make window sized openings and fit mosquito netting then in the winter I fitted windows and door wit plastic panels in the openings wood burner in middle and hey presto another room . Ands it's a temp building too .. led lighting .Just a thought .
Interesting - hope your experiment works😊.
There was some great music in this video - as always - but the song that started around about 16:50 was superb! I loved it. The sub-soil sample you took was almost guaranteed to have no organic matter since it was from so deep. Granted, weathering will be deeper in Portugal than in UK, and animals (worms, voles, insects etc) may also go deeper, but it will still be v sparse wrt organic matter.

Beautiful video guys. Thanks for shearing. Muchos saludos desde México
Wow! Frankie has sure grown an impressive coat for winter!
Eran, in order to fit both pipes, you have to expand one with the other. You heat carefully the pipe you want to expand, then use the other to press it, instead of a bottle. Wait untill it cools and then sand both surgaces and glue with pvc adhesive, othwrwise it may unglue. Believe me, I learned it the hard way, when doing the irrigation system at my home. Best wishes for you, Carissa, Diego and Frankie.
