Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

    I've been watching you for a while as both my brothers are in central Portugal doing similar projects. I've seen many videos from different people, but can honestly say I find yours the most enjoyable. You are clearly a lovely couple and your love for your animals warms my heart. I'd like to say, having read other comments, that none of your video is boring, the intro sets the mood and feeling for what is to come perfectly. I really wish people would keep comments positive after all your hard work and talent producing beautiful videos for people like us to watch. I wish you well with everything you are doing. Take care.

    While I thoroughly enjoy your content, watching you and your animal companions interact is the best part of your channel❤ I especially like watching Frankie and Diogo - you are very lucky to have them in your lives. My absolute favorite KZread video is when you first found Diogo along the road when he was injured. The initial pictures of him with Clarissa on the sofa, his eyes were just begging to be loved - it absolutely melted my heart. Please give him a kiss for me (and Frankie too)😘

    Good video folks. If you get into the habit of wiping your plates, pans etc with kitchen roll or whatever, before you wash them in the sink, then you won't get any food waste down the pipe into your soakaway. We got so much into the habit of doing this in our campervan to stop having a smelly tank, it's now second nature to do it at home and before we put anything in our dishwasher. Apologies if you've already thought of this 😂😂

    Looks like a proper mini leech field to me!(minus the cats, of course) Well done! The thing I love about tires is you can paint them and make planters, pound earth in them and use them as foundations for buildings, cut them and use them as borders etc. The list is almost infinite. They are cheap, long lasting, and don't get blown away in a good stiff wind!

    Good job, best of luck with it. Having done similar projects one thing I would advise is to mark the route of the pipe somehow. Learnt the hard way myself that over time with grass growing over the area its easy to accidently dig through the pipe. With the next one I put a garden path over the route. Just a thought.

    Hiya you too , just an idea for a shower I've a picture but not sure how to send Get two ibc tanks cut the top off one and the bottom off the other leaving lip to fix together one on top of each other . Cut a door way out but leave a lip to step into cube . Place the now two cubes on some bricks and pipe your shower outlet to your soak away .you can either put a door on the outside or a curtain . Add a small extractor fan fit in your shower head a shelf and a standing board on the floor . You could even put a led light inside .. You could even attach this to your cabin for your bedroom and have a door between shower and bed room .it's like a ensuite .👍👍

    I do hope I am wrong, but that pipe will block with foodstuff, oils, fats and sediment, you will then have difficulty clearing it as it is so narrow and you have no inspection/access chamber or rod eyes. I suggest that you need a filter below the sink outlet to catch solids. Do not under any circumstance allow your fats, coffee grinds and tea leaves to drain into this pipe.

  • @FrankieOffGrid

    @FrankieOffGrid

    I was thinking the same! Don’t wash any greasy/oily pans and let the water into the drain. That would build up and you have a blockage very quickly. I think waste pipes are normally much wider. But if you are careful hopefully it will work. I always dry off the pan with kitchen paper before washing and sometimes it doesn’t even need to be washed with water. A cast iron pan is better off not being washed in water

    I guess that you have already thought of this but just in case.... I live in Greece and need a cheap way to add organic matter to our garden soil. Often the places that sell firewood give away bark chips. You cant use them straight onto veg beds but you can add them to the compost or put them on paths, then after about 1 year the soil is fantastic and can be added as compost to the veg garden.

    Hi both just a note for the future. In PT Tlthe black pipe you used as a waste line. Is high pressure pipe to connect mains water signified by the blue stripe. There is a equivalent low pressure version that has no stripe that is significantly cheaper per m. Use the low pressure version for waste and garden irrigation, I hope that helps, take care D

    There was some great music in this video - as always - but the song that started around about 16:50 was superb! I loved it. The sub-soil sample you took was almost guaranteed to have no organic matter since it was from so deep. Granted, weathering will be deeper in Portugal than in UK, and animals (worms, voles, insects etc) may also go deeper, but it will still be v sparse wrt organic matter.

    Eran, in order to fit both pipes, you have to expand one with the other. You heat carefully the pipe you want to expand, then use the other to press it, instead of a bottle. Wait untill it cools and then sand both surgaces and glue with pvc adhesive, othwrwise it may unglue. Believe me, I learned it the hard way, when doing the irrigation system at my home. Best wishes for you, Carissa, Diego and Frankie.
