    This is by far the best breakdown I've seen so far on this show. Everybody is so busy looking for easter eggs that they are forgetting we have a dense story here, full of hypocrisy, deceat and secrecy. Remember people, mystery > nostalgia

    Thanks! You definitely approach the show just like me. I do appreciate the easter eggs like everyone else, but this show is leaning heavily into a very good mystery, so I wanted to focus on that instead. Can't wait to see where things go from here with the series!

    Whether this show improves Star Wars or not, it at least for once doesn’t focus on the Skywalker Saga and is set in an entirely different era. We need more Star Wars projects that are set before the Prequel Trilogy and long after the Sequel Trilogy. There's so much uncharted territory to explore and it would most definitely make the franchise feel bigger.

    I'm thinking when Sol asked Mae "why do you attack wihtout a weapon?" is because he knows this is some sort of Sith ritual for Acolytes.

    Ah...that's a very good possibility. Sol may be aware of how the Sith used to operate. Granted, they've been gone for a long time, but the texts would likely tell of how they operated in the olden days.

    I absolutely love your approach to this show. I've heard all kinds of complaining about the Acolyte and while it may have some faults, I personally feel every fan should have your approach to this show. The questions you bring up are so valid. I also wanna say Leslye gets much love from me for introducing us to our first Star Wars mystery. Right now as a fan, I am all about what happened in that fire on Brendok. I think you hit the nail on the head, Sol knows a lot more than he's letting on. I also find it very interesting too that out of 4 Jedi, two felt so bad about their actions they felt compelled to banish themselves and Indara & Sol were clearly able to eventually move on from the events of that night. The math definitely ain't mathing as they say....great observations. New subscriber. I can't to see what you do with Episode 3.

    Thanks so much for the positive feedback and support for the style of the vid. Yeah, I don't really understand why so many fans focus only on the negatives (or perceived negatives). I think it's much more enjoyable to look at the positives...which in this case is a fantastic mystery. So many layers to it. I think your analysis is spot on about Sol. Sometimes the most innocent seeming person is the one that has the most to hide. Can't wait to see where things head with episode three. Thanks again for watching the vid and for subbing. Truly do appreciate it!

    I'd argue that 19 BBY is the formation of the Empire, and not its rise. The "rise" is more what I'd consider the major events that led up to it. And Sheev Palpatine himself is directly responsible for many, if not all, of those major events. The first few being the Jedi learning of Darth Maul, "Sifodyas" ordering the Clone army, the turning of Dooku and removal of Kamino from the archives, and the early grooming of Anakin. All events which are pivotal for the Clone Wars, which ends with the formation of the Empire.

    Great breakdown of the mysteries! It's actually pretty weird, yet cool, to see a part of the Star Wars timeline that we hardly know anything about. These first two episodes have gotten me a lot more interested in the series than the first trailer did a few months ago. It was also interesting how the story of Osha and Mae gradually unfolded in the first episode, because it took a while before we even found out that there were twins, so until then I was assuming that Osha was the same person that killed Indara, even though it seemed really confusing that she wasn't acting at all like Mae was in that previous scene.

    I agree, I love the mysteries that the series is giving us and I also love that they are solving some of them at the same time they add more. Revealing they were twins early on and and letting everyone in the show figure it out (rather than accusing Osha for several episodes) was very cool. It shows they have so many clever mysteries waiting for us that they are willing to reveal and solve some along the way. Really excited for the next episode to drop!

    I'm pretty sure that dream of Mae that Osha had is similar to Anakin's dreams of his mom and Padmé dying, in that it was constructed by the Sith. Palpatine put those dreams in Anakin's mind, and whoever Mae's master is could have put that dream in Osha's mind.

    One thing I think is important to remember is that an acolyte is not a padawan. Mae is clearly trying to graduate from being an acolyte to an apprentice and I think killing the Jedi without a weapon is important to becoming a true apprentice. I agree with the sentiment, but careful with the word choice there. If you say that they are not "true fans" because they don't like this show, you're falling into the same trap that they fall into when they criticize Star Wars for being woke and all that BS. They assume that there is only one "true" way to be a Star Wars fan (their own), and if someone isn't like them, then they're not in the group. That's just factually false: there are as many ways to be a Star Wars fans as the number of people on Earth. Everyone experiences media differently, because everyone has their own unique life experience, and they're all valid. Yes, I can disagree with them because I liked this show too, but I would never go as far as saying that they are not "true fans" for not liking it. Hate and violence are always wrong, and I'm definitely going to call that out, but tastes are endless.

    Excellent breakdown. I especially liked your dive into the presumed dyad and the "illogical" connection between twins who both assume the other is dead. 1) What if what Osha THINK is Mae in her visions is something else entirely? Comes from a different source? From the presumed Sith? From any survivor of the coven? From inside her own delusional head (see below)? 2) Twins open up for som many other possibilities/ tropes - one twin assuming the identitity of the other. Or BOTH (only one twin, spilt personality, Mae IS dead, Osha is both of them, and probably psychotic). And do we know WHO it is that Indara and Torbin THINK they recognize? Mae? Osha? Their mother(s)? (Are there triplets running around?😂) How could they recognize an 8yr old in a 24yr old? Indara could recognize an adult Osha, though (she tried to kick her out of the Order six years ago, ie at age 18?). Either she thinks this is Osha, out for revenge, or she must have had more than an inkling that Mae survived if she instantly concludes that this Osha-lookalike is actually Mae. Or was the forehead tattoo a la Mother Aniseya such a big giveaway? (Osha hasn't got one and when did Mae get hers?) And Torbin hasn't really looked at anyone these past 10years. So his recollection is of either an 8yr old or at best a 14yr old. Or? And which one? 3) I think the reason Sol eradicated Mae from the archives (Hrrrmmm! Lost a padawan's twin, Master Sol has. How embarrassing!) was that he knew Mae was alive all the time. He lied/covered up. I haven't got the faintest WHY, though. (We'd better take a leaf out of Yoda's book and go ask some younglings.) 4) I have a bad feeling about this. The show is setting us up to really like Sol. No, I don't think he's going to die. Worse. They're probably going to reveal past events that paints him as very unsympathetic indeed. Why can't we ever have nice things? 5) Have we seen eyes go all black in StarWars before? How do we feel about this vs lore? 6) Earthbenders would like a word with Mae. Is she in the wrong franchise? 7) In trailer foitage we see Sol presenting a little girl (either twin?) with a lightsaber in front of the coven. Obviously no bad blood between them at that point in time, jedi tolerating other force users just fine. What they do (?) to Torbin occurs later? 8) Random remark: a jedi doesn't draw their weapon unless prepared to kill? Seriously? A primarily defensive weapon? Mae obviously think the lightsaber is a MAKER/chrysknife and even that only needs to draw blood. Whoever taught her messed with her head or didn't know the lore.😊

    I do think this larger mystery has great potential! Although the main plots for the two episodes we have are horribly written. Hopefully the following episodes avoids those mistakes. Will be great if Sol is actually hiding evil things and manipulating Osha into not seeking revenge so she doesn’t take it on him! Also Indara could’ve used the force or her lightsaber to stop Mae from attacking innocent bystanders and didn’t. Foreshadowing her not having much empathy for others?? (Although she did save the bartender for her own life, hoping then that her letting bystanders get attacked without intervention wasn’t just bad writing then but was instead foreshadowing)

    I'm not sure it is a force dyad. We havn't seen Mae see Osha, but also whenever Osha sees Mae, it is actually a different actress that the credits say is "Young Mae". So I think Osha is seeing force visions, not necessarily coming from Mae. I don’t think it’s a dyad at all, I think it’s just a twin-bond enhanced by them being Force sensitive. Rey and Kylo didn’t fully become their dyad until Palpatine/Snoke bridged their minds, and it wasn’t just visions, they were fully communicating, they were definitely both aware of it, and eventually able to pass things from one to the other. On the other hand, I think the more relevant comparison is Luke and Leia, also twins, and they also had a special connection to each other. Osha had visions of Mae, but I think they were just “regular” Force visions, since as we see, Mae was completely unaware of Osha’s survival until seeing her herself at the end.

    Im gunna chime in with my insight to attempt to amswer your questions: 1. If the showrunners are respecting canon then Darth Tenebrous is the Sith Master rn and Darth Plagueis is the sith apprentice, as to who the "Master" character is it could be either of those sith OR a new rogue sith created for the show and working outside of the rule of two. My guess is that its a rogue sith or Tenebrous because Plagueis would only be like 15 rn. 2. The Sith is using Acolytes to get at the jedi, who are useful and technically do not violate the Rule of Two. However, he might actually want to make Mae a formal apprentice, which makes me think this is the sith apprentice trying to overthrow his own master (showrunners said we will see MULTIPLE sith) 3. Darth [Insert] needs to see if Mae is worthy of becoming a sith apprentice, its a sith tradition. The rest i have no idea

    For a moment i thought maybe "kill without a weapon" had something to do with a force choke or using the force in some way. But I believe it's just metaphorical with her master's "kill the dream' speech". It could simply be uncovering their crimes and putting the Jedi as a whole in the crosshairs of the people they protect. Protecting their image seems to be a high priority with Vernestra.

Mae tried to get the lightsabers from her oppenents in two of her fights but was clearly not interested in keeping them if she did indeed got hold of them. Good start to the show, but I'm waiting for something to really get me excited. I'm sure the fans take things a little too literal with the numbers. I brought it up in the Discord server about when the show takes place, but it could easily just be 127 or 123 or even 117, like, does it have to be exactly 100 before Phantom Menace, or 100 years before Revenge of the Sith? We nerds love our numbers, but I could see the rise of the Empire being as soon as the Clone Wars officially begin, which would put the show at 122 BBY. What counts as the Rise of the Empire? Is it when Palpatine is made Chancellor, or is it when he declares himself Emperor? The Phantom Menace is just the first domino on screen that leads to the Empire being in power, but it goes back to the dogma of the Jedi with is a very slow progression, and even further back about 1000 years to Darth Bane's Rule of Two and the Sith plotting in secret to take over the Galaxy. Where's the cutoff date? So officially as of right now, 132 BBY is what to go by, but I could see it being anywhere between 132 and 119 with even a little bit of bleed on either side. The Acolyte is possibly about the Apprentice Sith gaining their own apprentice to kill the Master, but that Acolyte (Mae) has to prover worthy first. Or it could be about the Master finding their own replacement Apprentices, I mean Palpatine had Dooku ready to go before Maul even died, and then he was just waiting for Anakin to be ready, whom he was ready to throw away to the likes of possibly Ezra, and especially Luke because of Vader's condition being half machine. The whole point of killing a Jedi without a weapon would be a test of strength for Mae, but it also is mentioned in the episode that it will strike fear into the Jedi and any witnesses because it shows that the Jedi are not unbeatable. People already know the Jedi are able defeated by conventional weapons, but if you can defeat them with just your bare hands, that shows you are powerful enough to defeat some of the strongest people known in the Galaxy, that you should be respected, and that the balance of power int eh Galaxy is shifting so be prepared. I also heard a pretty good theory that it's possible that Qimir is actually the one Mae serves, she just doesn't know. Nobody knows Palpatine is actually Sidious until he reveals himself, and his face is right out in the open, no need for a helmet, he's just masking his presence with the Force, so it's not unfounded. He's not even the usual Apothecary in that establishment, so it's possible he's pretending to be a fellow student, there could be many students who can form alliances with one another, but no more than one student can meet the masked figure at the same time, partly because Qimir and that person are the same guy. Qimir is one to look out for with how he acts.

  • @AbitofEverything4U

    @AbitofEverything4U

    Yeah, I agree, it may not matter too much what year the show takes place in. Although the idea of it being even closer to the end of the High Republic is kinda cool as we may get to know the exact event that is credited as the end of that era. And I do have to wonder if Qimir is either Mae's master in disguise or if he at least has a strong connection to the master. Qimir knows waaaaaay too much to not be involved.

    @@AbitofEverything4U Interesting point about having some kind of event end this period in Galactic History. I don't know if that's specifically how it works, but I suppose there could be something rather major that affects the Republic, not just the Jedi, in such a way where historians could look back upon and say, "The time from this year X to this year Y was The High Republic." The only thing with it tying into the Sith is that the Jedi still need to believe that they've been extinct for a Millennia. That means either jsut about everyone in this show has to be killed before they can share all the information (not likely) or will be dead by the time of most characters in the Prequels (much more likely), or there's going to be yet another coverup and the Jedi don't think that there's anything to worry about anymore because this masked figure has been taken care of (the most likely). That's the prevailing theory over on Star Wars Explained because many fans were immediately turned off by the reveal of what was likely to be a Sith character and immediately pointing back to Ki-Adi-Mundi's line in The Phantom Menace, myself included. But Alex mentioned that the Jedi are so sure of themselves that they could just cover up whatever happened, even keeping it secret from most of the Jedi Order, and have another 100 year of peace before Maul shows up. 100 years is not long, but that's a few generations of Jedi to die off and be replenished with new blood that's not even aware of what happened, especially if it was kept off the record, and all the folks that live 100+ years anyway swear to secrecy. And now here's this show doing exactly that were only 16 years ago there was some terrible event that happened, and there are details missing in the files. So perhaps with series won't show the exact end of the High Republic Era, but certainly the precursor to its decline if that's not already in motion anyway.

  • @AbitofEverything4U

    @AbitofEverything4U

    Ай бұрын

    Right...it just feels like something should be the shift between the High Republic and the Fall of the Jedi periods. Like you said, historians look back and pick a certain event to be the moment that everything changed. Hope we get to see that!

    @@AbitofEverything4U I don't even think it really needs to be a singular moment though. For me I'm particularly thinking of Art movements since I was an Art Major in college, and sometimes there are just these big moments where someone does something really revolutionary that sparks a new period of creation, and other times there's just a gradual shift in tone where you kind of notice the last vestiges that define a certain period of time being less frequently used in favor of more contemporary ideas that then can also slowly fade away, too. It's not quite the same as War is literally in the Star Wars name, that's always going to kickstart something, but maybe it's also just a bunch of little skirmishes that come up in this relative time of peace (from the books there are different types of Force Users that conflict with Jedi philosphy, there's pirate gangs, and killer plants), that makes the Jedi start to change their tone and they become much more limited in outreach and really start to reanalyze the rules to where you get a bunch of people like Yord. When you have a significant number of Jedi no longer alive to remember the High Republic or the ideals once held during that time, that's when you can start to really narrow down an end date in the history books, and perhaps this business with Mae and this secret Sith is the final skirmish needed to push the Jedi into what we begin to see in the Prequels and Dooku's story in Tales of the Jedi.

    I honestly think either dating works but I kind of looked at it as 100 years before TPM. Also never realized the logo was teasing us with the duality of things. I assumed it was a Force Dyad. My best guess is that them being twins makes them more likely to have one but given as we learn they both believed the other was dead until events were put into motion I can understand why its only now happening. And as they always say "The Force works in mysterious ways". I'm wondering now if maybe the Jedi were responsible for the fire given how that one Jedi decides to just drink poison ... really curious how all this is going to end honestly. Now is Mae trained by a Sith though? They could simply be trained by a Force user (remember the Nightsisters are one such group). Now does Indara recognize her as Mae or as Osha? Twins are definitely hard to distinguish on a good day. Ah yes ... discount Ezra Miller. Although, what if this isn't a Force Dyad. What if the Sith or whoever Mae's Master is is coming to Osha pretending to be Mae? I mean we still don't know what lead to Anakin's nightmares of Padme unaliving do we? However Torbin makes it seem like the four Jedi all knew she was alive including Sol. And you bring up a lot of open questions, I hope we get most of them answered by the finale in six weeks! And yes ... he said the thing!

    I liked the fact that they immediately told us who the assassin is: it's Mae, Osha's twin sister. They could have lead us into this wild goose chase for who the Acolyte is and why she and Osha look identical, and that could have lasted at least two or three episodes. But they told us right away, which is awesome, because now the mystery shifts on what truly matters: what's the deal with Mae being still alive when there are eyewitnesses to her death, and who is this mysterious Master that Mae herself doesn't even know by name. To me, these questions have much more worldbuilding potential and are much more interesting mysteries to explore, and I'm glad that we cut straight to them instead of having to go through a fake mystery first. That said, the series is not perfect, it has its flaws, but it's not done yet, so for now I'm only going to register the fact that I'm liking it and I'm excited to see what comes next. Judgments will come at the end.

    I really liked the first 2 episodes. It was so much fun seeing the different planets, aliens, droids, etc. There being multiple Jedi temples was really interesting as opposed to just one in the Prequels/TCW era. I loved the fact that the twin thing was revealed right away, and that they didn’t drag out the whole mistaken identity thing, and I am very intrigued what happened when Osha and Mae were young, and why Mae is after the Jedi. And I absolutely loved the fighting. And while I’m not a fan of any of the characters so far, they were all pleasant enough to watch and I’ll happily follow their story. I am definitely looking forward to seeing the rest. I think this show has the potential to bring in a new generation of Star Wars fans that can enjoy it without knowing anything about Luke, Anakin, Ahsoka, Mandalorians, etc. I just hope the negative reviews doesn’t get to them (omg! My question: what is meant by "without a weapon"? Because knives are a weapon. My understanding was it meant without a specific weapon, a lightsaber. The reason I think that is because they really focused on the lightsaber during the battle with Trinity. She grabbed for it a few times and then the camera focused on it after she was defeated. I'm guessing that an acolyte is almost like a sith in training. A way to have a successor ready while also upholding the rule of two.

A whole galaxy full of different races, species, people, etc. Probably the most diverse franchise there is. Also the time period of the High Republic is when the Jedi Order was at its most expansive.
