Unneesween shab aayi jo maah-e-Ramazan ki - Ashraf Abbas (1987)
Ashraf Abbas (1942-2020) reciting at Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Shaheedan (Ali Muttaqi House) in 1987. Ashraf Abbas was the quintessential reciter of salams, following the path of Nasir Jahan. He first recited a salam between sozkhwani and Allama Rasheed Turabi's khitabat at Khaliqdina Hall in 1963, after which this became customary at the Allama's insistence. This format of salamkhwani later became an element of Karachi's azadari. Ashraf Abbas was renowned for his simple tunes and impeccable selection of poetry.
