RIP Dave Shakespeare, nice guy, wonderful modeller. Superb layout.
Every time I watch this it is still just as amazing...
So sorry to hear today that Dave has passed away. He will be greatly missed.
The loss of a railway modeller is always sad news. More so Dave Shakespeare, whose modelling was a great inspiration to me and so many other modellers. Condolences to Daves wife and family.
I won the Shakespear ward for my layout a few years ago, He made an amazing layout.
Superb viewing of a creation that is more than a railway layout. Every stone of it speaks West Riding and so does the selection of industries around the station. I liked the comment about the painted lintel. I live in a 250 year old stone cottage, built when the town in the West Country in which I live had a woollen and silk industry of its own. The Industrial Revolution put paid to that, the jobs disappeared and moved to among other places West Yorkshire which had bigger and faster flowing rivers and STEAM. When I bought the house twenty years ago the survey included the stern injunction that the lintels above the doors and windows should be painted regularly. They are not stone, but oak. I believe that timber from ordinary houses of that era was often taken from old ships, as the usable wood was often carefully recycled when the ship was scrapped.
Absolutely fantastic layout, I remember seeing this quite a few years ago in a modelling magazine & it just blew me away, the skill & dedication given to create something so realistic & lifelike is just beyond me, RIP to a creator of something really special, rest peacefully Dave
Fantastic layout Dave. RIP.My condolonces.
It's sometimes hard to quantify when the hobby goes from a train set/playing trains to an art form, but this has definitely crossed into the latter category! The realism of the masses of stonework alone is breathtaking.
Viewing from Palm Springs California. Thank you so much for giving me that memory and the incredible realism of old BR Britain
I meet Dave once at an exhibition , His buildings are impressive.
Every time I watch this it is still just as amazing, I never get tired of it.
OMG this is sad news I had no idea 😪 May you rest well my belated condolences to all your family and friends.
This guy is/was a master of weathering and detail. Love the weeds in the gutters. Top stuff, thanks.
Hadn't heard about poor Dave - he wasn't that old. God bless you Dave.

i remember seeing this in model rail magazine, still under construction,in the 90s,i still have the copy of the magazine, superb layout.
I have watched this twice now and I must say what a wonderful balance of both weathered locos and scenery alike, and yes as was so eloquently phrased nothing looks as if it does not belong. This has been an inspiration for my 0 gauge layout many thanks
Why would one dislike this video? This layout is a work of art and has absolutely stunning detail.
Well done layout. Dave has captured his childhood era very nicely.
I brought a railway magazine years ago featuring this very layout on the cover. its so nicel to see the actual model and creator thanks
OMG, this is just stunning; magnificent! The weathering on all the buildings, bridges, and all the attention to detail is either massively inspiring or heartbreaking; because I can see that all my efforts would fall short of perfection... I am astounded and humbled by seeing this.
Norman Bonus was transport manager at J & MH Laycock's carpet warehouse in Tetley's Mills.
great video me and my 8 years old son loved witching
RIP Dave... you will be missed
RIP Dave Shakespeare.

Absolutely amazing. Highly enjoyable tour.
love this. 4.59.. synonymous!!
Want to get my Ian Allan trainspotting book out again! , you have captured the time of grimy terraced houses , and how life was in the 50s and 60s, its the only period to model isnt it? none of the modern rubbish. excellent layout.Dave.
A wonderful display that works nicely, I do admire you artisanship!
wish him every sucess with his new venture and hope asll works out well for him
ive been working on my layout for last year or so, hope mine turns out even half as good as yours, amazing layout. thanks for sharing on video so we can all enjoy, best wishes.

Great video and a great layout, well done.

Simply wonderful !
What a stunning layout, I realise how very far I have to go to get anywhere near this! Inspirational. Very sad to hear about the owner.
Absolutely fantastic my friend, Luiz
What a truly inspiring layout. Despite you two gents looking like a double act...(in a nice way I must say!) it was a very educational video. I'm building a new 00 layout and I am very much a beginner. Thank you for posting this on here.
:) What an incredible layout! It made me feel so excited to see it on youtube. I knew about this layout, by the 50th anniversary commemorative issue of Hornby Magazine, my daughter Laura brought me, when she come back from Scotland in August 2011. I would like seeing it in a near future. Tetley Mills Congratulations for such a wonderful personal achievement.
Awsome layout.
Wonderful layout, puts my efforts to shame, and such lovely music, so apt.
Amazing layout.
Magnifique ! very good .
Superb layout
Very nice layout. Greetings from Germany
love the uncoupling jig!
Well done David, it's smashing......(expat..Yocky in os)
Lovely layout :)
Hello . The plant I really like, it is something very beautiful.
thankyou....inspirational
Beautiful layout . Does anyone know what may have happen to the layout after his passing ..
Wouldn't be surprised to see Norah Batty step out of one of those terraced houses!
What was the name of the green DMU that was in the video, because I would like to buy one of them.
He's right. it's not nearly mucky enough.. Just when you think there's enough weathering on a model, you realise that there's scope for more after looking again at original photos from the period. Dust, soot and dirt settled on every surface. I always imagine it like snow, but grime coloured.
can you tell me the two songs in this video?? they're great
Paradise- Coldplay dude!
Lovely layout, what control is it? D
what is the piano tune called at the beginning and end?
what size layout is it
then it snowed so you had that covering the grim with a white blanket, for a short time at least
Damn correcting a modeler legend/ He was about to smack him
Not Bad David ;)
Victory model railway exhibition 2019
Its a derby lightweight
I see you are not only a fellow Yorkshire man but like myself you too have turned to Model Railways as a new hobby after a Motorbike accident. I had my accident way back in May 2001. It has left me severly disabled, as a stroke victim. I can't walk or talk. BUT I AM a "REAL LIVING DOLL !" , haha. I am in the throws of doing an n gauge DCC layout, with Diesels and a DMU. I am also making a OO gauge Tram layout. As a very good friend of the Family, a Mr. Roy Brook, who was an expert on Trams. Writing books like "The Tramways of Huddersfield" , had left me his OO gauge Trams. I will post a photo of it on my web site at www.sportsbiking.co.uk .
*analogue or DCC?
nice layout rolling stock needs a clean
OO TRAIN
Indeed.. And Narnia came to the muckiest!

The interviewer is very arrogant and stuck up. amazing layout but in the end I was just angry st the way this layout and it's creator were just battered by the interviewer.

Moggy 1000 Thanks for you kind comments but Tony Wriight and I are really good friends and indeed 'bounce' banter and nothing he said caused me any offence we really are a couple of nutters and as may come across my approach to modelling is certainly not elitist nor will I every be elevated to the ranks of rivet counters. I'm pleased the layout gives such enjoyment to viewers. Dave Shakespeare

Daniel Smith I was not critising anything it was just an observation from the outside looking in. I'm 24 and building a layout at the moment but in N gauge and I hope that one day I will be able to build a layout to this magnificence.
My mistake lol wrong vid
Since when have locomotives moved to music. If you have to have sound, please make it railway associated.
