So, i like ren. But i LOVE Fred Again. Like, i listened to nothing but him for over a month. His boiler room set is my workout playlist. I'm autistic, and i am very bad at processing emotions. And the main way im able to just dwell in emotion and process what I'm feeling is music. And sometimes I listen to specific songs if i want to feel a particular emotion. Fred Again made me feel in ways i didn't even think were possible. And Ren just fucking broke me, man.

What I love most is that Ren said he learned so much from you, Chris. And now you're listening to him explaining how much he's doing right. Kind of circle of voice and admiration and learning from each other. It's inspiring to see that even a professional can still learn from a self-learned professionalist and see the amazing things he can do.. Does that make sense?

I'm an oldie too😊Ren is the most amazing musical artist I've ever seen. His diversity, honesty, message he is spreads, his heart, his musical genius, his guitar playing, his passion, strength, the way he connects with fans, his independent status as a recording artist etc etc, makes him just almost unbelievably super human, and yet he is the most open and real human I've seen for my whole life. So happy to have discovered him, never too late to be inspired by such an artist, so happy to be watching his journey 💕

Thank you so much for actually doing research on Fred and watching his tiny desk concert. I was getting really frustrated watching other reactions and people not even realising these were covers of Fred’s songs and crediting Ren for the lyrics. I love Ren, but Fred is also an absolutely incredible musical genius and I wish more people would take the time to watch his studio live performances and tiny desk concert.

Loved your reaction Chris. The way Ren sings is so beautiful. He sizzles and his tone is magical. The way Ren uses his chest voice, gut breath and guttural cracks and breaks; then switches in and out of his vibrato and head voice is stunning. He’s so free he passes on that liberation to everyone listening. He loves his O’s in a playful way then dips and taps into his truthful emotional reservoir tells everyone just how much his music means to him and how much he wants it to make a difference. His mission is to make people connect and feel, then subtly ask everyone without ever really asking to “pass it on”.

10:57 Ren drops out of singing completely just for one word - "lost". A few seconds earlier, he'd been repeating the line 'I've been lost' all with melody but then drops to speaking just for that one word. It was very quick but it was there. It was a perfect emotive/creative choice, I thought.

Ren paid homage to Fred but at the same time he told his story too. This has been on repeat since it dropped….and I’ve been full of excitement one minute, having goosebumps and crying the next. It would be amazing if there was a Fred and Ren collaboration. Loved this 💜🔥

This version haunts my dreams. It’s brilliance and pure emotion. I can appreciate your technical breakdown and intelligence, but I think Ren is so good BECAUSE he sings from a place of emotion. It reminds me of early Grunge (before it was “grunge”) when we all just related to the overall emotional intensity. Bless Ren. We need this so much now.

Additionally, he uses almost any free time practicing repeatedly to improve tempo and intonation/enunciation. He'll put on a metronome and work on increasing his speed, etc.

Fred again needs to hear this!! Ren took 5 different of Fred’s EDM tracks and completely transformed them seamlessly into an emotional journey culminating in the “I’ve been lost for so long. But I’m really trying.” You can feel every ounce of emotion - especially as he glances out at the Calgary skyline. He’s been so far from home without the ability to perform for over a year. Ren is unlike any other artist and I cannot wait to hear all of the new material he is planning on releasing this year!!

Hi Chris, I love your Ren reactions, and your analysis of the many different aspects of his voice. There’s another vocalist out there who’s on the cusp of breaking through in a big way. You may have had requests for reactions to her before, but I couldn’t find any you’ve done. Her name is Angelina Jordan. She’s a Norwegian vocalist who just turned 18, but she has been on the public stage since she was 7 when she auditioned for Norway’s Got Talent (and went on to win at the age of 8.) She has 200+ performances on KZread, most of them incredible covers of songs from virtually any genre, although her original basis was jazz. Since the age of 12 she has also released the occasional original; most recently an EP titled Old Enough. Most people get introduced to her either through her version of Bohemian Rhapsody (which the remaining members of Queen lauded and gave her the copyright to) which she performed at America’s Got Talent The Champions at age 13, or her version of I Put a Spell on You (her own arrangement inspired by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ original) which she recorded just after she turned 9, a must see! (kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKt6ztF8gLvgc9Y.htmlsi=Rtlw9dK87DtQchZE). She is known not only for her amazing voice and technique, but more importantly for her ability to convey the emotion of the songs she covers. There are several versions of her singing Unchained Melody, but the most recent is from the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony from December 2023 where she gave a very tender and emotional performance tailored to the situation (the recipient, Narges Mohammadi, is currently imprisoned in Iran for her work on human and women’s rights, and Angelina Jordan interpreted the song in a way that reflected Mohammadi’s longing for her children left without their mother.) All this to say, please react to one of her performances. You can pick anything from her catalog and not go wrong, but as a starting point try one of the ones I mentioned, and prepare to be impressed and moved.

Thanks for the great reaction breaking down Ren's astonishing vocal range and ability. His voice on this track is stunning, so much raw emotion the way he sings and just compliments the beautiful guitar playing perfectly
