Mixing VOCALS with the CUBASE Compressor?
I find that lots of people underestimate the power of the stock plugins in their DAW, and Cubase has some extremely powerful ones.
Today I want to focus on the stock compressor and show you a trick I use to get a great vocal sound.
Do you use the stock Cubase compressor? What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments. Also let me know if you have other questions!

    Cubase has so many great HiEnd effects... you don´t need thirdparty stuff. Great times... I built an effects chain with Tube and Vintage Compressors that works just same as my Waves 1176 + La2a chain - these are minimal nuances that are not audible in the song context with other tracks. YES: learn to use Cubase stock plugins. ❤

    Another great video Chris. It just highlights that when you know what the different parameters actually do and how they can be applied to a track, you can get a great sound and mix from stock plugins instead of spending significant amounts of dollars on more "fancy" third party plugins. I'm only just starting out so I brought a steinberg ur44c that also has a nice plugin included for free. Plus guitar effects I don't use as I don't play a instrument.. just having fun.. that's for the info

    Great vid. I wish Steinberg team made an option to have at least 2 compressors in the channel strip. Channel strip has a great potential if made more flexible.

    For very gentle compression after peaks have been dealt with by a compressor, using Magneto or one of the other sat. options might work sometimes. Not the same as having 2 compressors available though, and maybe in future releases the channel strip will become even more flexible (choose how many of each module type you want in the available slots rather than having one slot dedicated to a function as is currently the case).

    @@rthyhmmemory11Man, you're starting the obvious. In that case, the whole point of the rack is useless. I'm talking about the visual convenience of the rack and it's limited features so far. Not that I can't live without the rack. I just don't use it as often because of its limitations.

    Question, I'm a newbie with recording. I'm just using compression as an insert. is that ok. will it get recorded in the mix. or do I have to change something.

  • @adrianl5899

    @adrianl5899

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Teddy, compressors (or any plugin) used as an insert on an input channel are recorded (ie. you are committing to the sound as impacted by the plugin). Most newbies (and plenty of experienced people) record 'clean' in case they, for example, overcompress the recording. Chris has a video called 'Recording with plugins in Cubase like analog gear' which delves into this. Hope that helps.

  • @66fitton

    When compressing transient material such as drums, you can choose 'peak' mode on the Cubase Standard Compressor. Peak mode is for transient/percussive material. I would try a single compressor and experiment with attack/release/ratio to even out a drummer's hits. The Cubase Vintage Compressor may also be a good option.
