Unlocking the Old Testament Part 48 - Obadiah and Joel 1

David Pawson says that, though some of the Minor Prophets occupy just one page in our Bibles, they are very important. “Minor” refers to the size of the book rather than their message. These written prophets seem to all relate to the exile of the people of Israel, either warning of its coming - before the event, (Obadiah then Joel were the first 2 in this category); seeking to comfort them once it happened, or encouraging them to get settled back in their own land when the exile finished. David says a prophet speaks for God which means that he has also heard from God, so he needs both the sensitivity to hear, and the courage to deliver. God usually sends prophets when something is going wrong, and it is part of his goodness that he warns people before bringing punishment. Obadiah actually didn’t speak to God’s people but to one of Israel’s neighbours, Edom. At this time it was a radical thought that the God of Israel was the God of all other nations as well, and judgment would come from him. Edom was the first nation to be warned that they would be judged for what they had done to Israel. There is no trace of the Edomites in the world today.

Its good to read the "Present wirh Religion", a book for free on the internet. The book is about the truth of life and it shows the full picture of life for the first time so that you may stop being deceived by the world and be able to follow the steps of Jesus and other prophets to Heaven.Knowing the truth is the key factor in our salvation. We must know the truth and live in it and change ourselves according to it in order to be saved. There is no other way to our salvation. With the knowledge of the truth there comes true repentance which means changing our minds and also true obediance to God' s law and finally our sanctification which is a lifelong process. And God in Hia mercy will give us His wonderful grace which is the time and ability to make the proper change.Only in this way will we be able to attain our eternal salvation. Our task is to find this narrow gate that leads to God and do it quickly and stay on it till the end no matter what. Then and only then we will be saved. There is nothing more important or serious to do in this fallen world as our eternal fate depends on it.

I have a serious question please anyone answer? So esau (pardon my spelling, I'm at work) hated Jerusalem and treated them poorly, joined the fight against them whenever possible. And shouldn't take advantage of brother like that. So when Jacob gave esau food for the land, was that not taking advantage? Or was it understood to some way

Great question. Yes, that could be looked at as taking advantage of someone and I'm sure Jacob paid for that as well (we know his life was far from perfect and drama filled). However, the main point was that Esau sold his God given birthright for food, not valuing it more that a bowl of lentils. He didn't have to "sell his soul". He showed no faith that God would sustain him. Jacob didn't even convince or coerce him; he simply gave him a proposition. It was foretold while they were in the womb what would occur. I'd say this was all just part of how the prophecy was fulfilled. I'm no scholar. I'm just speaking from my limited understanding. I hope this helps.

Sir, I hope this may help enlightened you. When God gives a promise, even if it takes long, one must hope and beieve that it will come to pass.God will fulfill His Words, but Not Thru Our Ways. Rebecha, Jacob's mother knew from pregnancy that Jacob was God's chosen and favored one. God being All knowing must have seen the future of the Twins and the type of heart the both had. As spoken by The Preacher here, Esau doesn't take his calling seriously. He is more centered on possession of position , and wealth rather then Spiritual responsibilities. But on the other end both Jacob and his Mother both tried to attain their inheritance or God's promise thru their own means amd ways. Even if it takes deceiving his own father. God knows how to teach each of His chosen a lesson. It took 20 years for Jacob to learn the pain of being deceived thru Laban, his father in law.what he sew, he reaped. Whether believer or unbeliever, God will not allow injustice to escape. He deals with everyone.
