Unlock Your Inner Game Designer: GB Studio Beginner's Guide

Ойындар

Hello and Welcome to ModernBroadcast!
Ever dream of being the mastermind behind your own Game Boy game, just like the ones you swapped cartridges with your buddies for during recess? Wish you could bring back the magic of 'blowing the cartridge' to fix a game? Well, get ready to party like it's 1990, because this video is your personal time machine back to the golden era of handheld gaming!
In this tubular tutorial, we're going back to the future with GB Studio, the raddest game design tool for creating your very own Game Boy games. Remember the joy of playing 'Tetris', 'Pokémon', and 'The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening' under your blanket with a flashlight? Now, you can recreate that magic with your own stories and characters!
By the end of this series, you'll be ready to create your own 'Super Mario Land'. Or, in our case, a totally adorable delivery game, where you'll help a cute character make deliveries all around town - think 'Paperboy', but with a kawaii twist!
So, dust off your Walkman, set your Tamagotchi aside, and get ready to ride the pixelated wave of nostalgia. Let's make a Game Boy game that's sure to make even the '90s say, 'Woah, that's rad!

Question! I want to put objects in my world the character can interact with that will display a dialogue box. Like, clicking on a sign post, or trash can, or statue in Pokémon. Do I need to make them actors? Or can I set up events to trigger on the background?

For all affected scenes that had the text issue, I made sure that none of them had the "Logo" scene type (I changed any affected scene that did), I changed the backgrounds, ran the build, closed it, then changed the backgrounds to whatever they were supposed to be. This fixed the issue in my project, hopefully this solution works for you guys as well.”

@@ModernBroadcast I guess I didn't word this correctly haha. What I meant was have an interface like this where you can load up an existing Gameboy monochrome game and add/tweak Color pallets to make it playable on Gameboy Color. Which has 56 Colors. Do you see this as something possible? I know some people have already done dx hacks of a handful of games already (like metroid 2 and super mario land) but there probably aren't more than 10 in total. This could be a game changer..

I'm trying to teach myself this and see if there are any guides online but the community seems very cryptic about it's implementation other than saying it's very complicated.
