Thanks For Watching! What is the most dangerous saw you've ever worked with?

Brings back memories of an old one that was given to me. A Craftsman also. Mine had a manual brake on the back of the motor. Twist it and the blade stops quick. I was wary of the dangers and never had an incident. It was always so hard to bring back to square for some reason. Got rid of it when I moved and bought a 12 inch sliding miter saw later.

Hey thanks Mike! Have you ever worked with any tools that felt unsafe?

I've been using a radial arm saw for over 60 years (my RAS is a Craftsman and at least 50 years old) and for certain cuts, it is terrific and I have all of my body parts. My dad had one before me and he, too, had all of his. I never do any of those weird things you showed in the manual; but it's one tool in my "toolbox" in my shop. I do have a sliding miter saw, and it probably gets used more because it's portable. BTW, the fence on your saw is installed in the wrong location. You should be cutting on the pull stroke as that's how they're designed. The blade can only come as far as the length of the arm.

I have the manual and agree it seems comical today. Back in the day, however, it was probably one of the most valuable tools a woodworker could own.

@BTimmer Oh absolutely! I often think about how much of a dramatic difference in both resourcefulness and handling skills the guys 60 years ago had compared to most people today. Livable common sense standards have definitely changed over the years 😝

Bob I had an 8 1/4” Ryobi radial arm saw that the carriage cam off of the arm 40 yrs ago. They recalled all of them because If the danger from their saw.

Yeah, like I say in the video, there are so much crazy crap that they recommend you could use the saw for I imagine there’s plenty of people that can no longer shake a hand or two after losing a couple fingers with this saw

However, what’s crazy is I remember clearest day using one of these radial arm saws in shop class. But they never gave us the manual so all I ever knew that you could do with the thing was crosscut Lumber.

@markhalaszynski5662 I totally agree, but it’s extremely difficult to shift back to knowing that the blade isn’t gonna stop when the trigger stops, which is why I feel that in a fast pace shop these radio alarm saws are freaking dangerous. At least the ones that are 60+ years old.

You are doing it WRONG. Saw cuts on PULL stroke.
