What's the point when most studios don't release the IMAX versions on blu-ray? Take Avengers Endgame for example. The whole movie was shot on IMAX camera's and yet the home version doesn't come with the IMAX aspect ratio.

That's because IMAX has the saying about releases with IMAX material. So most probably all these Shot in IMAX movies will now be rereleased with IMAX Enhanced.

Open Matte version its not IMAX, they make full movies full screen on top and bottom, but crop screen right and left side for HDTV.

So... It's a streaming service? A new HDR standard? I mean the video is cool and all... But I can't discern what is advertised.

Reading through the faq I see it as basically a new set of standards. Like THX certification that used to mean something back in the day. Technically, DTS-X (which the sound bit is built around) is nothing new, but now sound streams can have an IMAX flag. What that actually does in supported equipment is obscured by commercial jargons. Switching aspect ratios is nothing new either and could be done with any streams using black bars. And I do doubt that this means we will be able to stream the full 1.43:1 of classic horizontally fed IMAX. It'll probably be full DCI 4096x2160 (in 1.9:1 ratio) that it'll max out as. Which is technically still less pixels than 3840x2160 UHD as the 1.9:1 image is matted into the 1.78 frame of the consumers TV or projector. I am ignoring the specifics of IMAX certified adjustments and probably higher standards of bitrates ... But my guess is that in practice. Practically no ordinary user will see or hear any difference compared with a competently mastered bluray on a decent home cinema.

@Fabian Mayer As someone who loves 2.4:1 I never really understood the hate for the black bars. "Classic IMAX" aspect ratio Can be done in digital too. You just do pillarbox instead of letterbox :)

The only way we'd get even a roughly 100:1 sample of the IMAX experience is if you have a 60 inch TV with 4K capability and a 4K player. It would also help that it was shot in IMAX or, at least, 8K RED. Most movies, after they've been shot in anything higher than 4K, if there's any special effects, those shots usually get rendered at a lower quality.

Dunkirk and Interstellar already have the ratios in their standard 4K format. Nolan’s movies always include them if the cameras were used

I know both 4K versions of Dunkirk and Interstellar include all of the IMAX shots, especially Interstellar which was mostly shot in this format and it looks absolutely incredible. I'm not sure the regular versions of Bluray are the IMAX versions

0:39 This scene looked AMAZING in IMAX 3D. Hell, the Mysterio hologram scenes greatly benefitted from 3D.

I hope we can get the IMAX version of the Force Awakens in this. Regardless of anyone’s thoughts about the film, I’m only this because the film did had a sequence that was shot on IMAX 70mm film and that was the whole Jakku escape scene.

it had a couple if I recall, I watched it at the tcl theater in 70mm and at universal imax in 70mm. Yes the Jaku sequence was amazing.

If IMAX thinks the "IMAX experience" can be shrunk down to fit in your living room (or god forbid a future imax-enhanced smartphone), then they're giving up their position as the only reason some people still pay admission at theaters. It's a shame.

It's only for av receivers and large speakers. It's the Orginal theater mix with none of the downscaling.

I got this 98 Inch TCL XL QLED (c735) and iMax Enhanced feature really does the justice with cinematic experience regarding sound and picture quality

Watching this on my eight year old iPad Air two and it looks absolutely fantastic. Don’t think I’ll bother upgrading to anything else.

That will depend on the movie and whether or not IMAX is okay with it. I’d imagine Tenet will still have the aspect ratio changes on the Blu-Ray

I only have several blu-ray films that have IMAX version like the hunger games: catching fire, star trek: into the darkness, interstellar, dunkirk, the dark knight, the dark knight rises and mission impossible: fallout.

Think I have a couple Transformers movies that include IMAX versions

Funny enough that Roger Deakins for example said in his own forum, that the 2.40:1 aspect ratio version was indeed the "way 1917 and blade runner were intended" and that he did not like the IMax as much.

So they're finally releasing Avengers Infinity War in full screen? Same with Alita Battle Angel

Hey! I love your cinemas and it's by far the best cinematic quality that I know of. I hope You are on a path to bring the same top quality to the home without the need of spending $200K for a full IMAX home system. Therefore I would like to ask what's the quality of the IMAX Enhanced premium content streamed by your partners compaired to an UHD Blu-Rays. I mean hard facts like: bitrates for wideo and audio, codecs if possible, GBs per hour and so on... Netflix for example has up to 768 kbps for Dolby Atmos where we have up to 100 Mbps for an Dolby Atmos track on a 4K Blu-Ray disks. I get that the codecs are different, but this compression rate seems to me a quality relation of and 64 kbps MP3 compaired to a Lossless stereo track that go up to 1 Mbps - that is very bad. As a true fan I would really apriciate an detailed anwser to those concernes.

Gellert_ TV I’m optimistic, even 4k tv’s are getting cheaper, look up pimax and XTAL headsets, they’re pushing the limits with resolution so I think in our lifetime it is safe to say we will see it

I doubt any current movies will be re-releasing on the IMAX format. Only new upcoming movies will feature it. Zombieland: Double Tap will be the first 4K Blu-ray with IMAX Enhanced from what I've seen and heard.

There have been some IMAX documentaries released in 4K Blu-ray with IMAX Enhanced since December 2018. When it comes to feature films, "The Angry Birds Movie 2" was actually the first one since November 2019, and then "Zombieland: Double Tap".

So excited for these products to be released!

You guys would make SO MUCH money if you released the uncropped Infinity War and Endgame on Blu-ray, especially 3D Blu-ray. How would you even watch that in IMAX 70mm unless you have an original film print? And on that note, where and how would you even store something that big and heavy? Do you have a compatible projector and sound system? This would be something to brag about for sure

Also 2 movies that should be imax enhanced should be Logan and Mad Max Furry Road

If you want to watch an actual IMAX movie, the way it was intended, you only have the option of going to Melbourne, Australia where they have the proper screen size (32x23 meters) and original 70mm projectors. Unfortunately the one in Sydney was demolished, and there are only smaller screens in the rest of the world. The new Sydney IMAX opening in 2020 will once again take the record.
