I switched from Lightroom to Camera RAW a few years ago, best thing I ever did. Using Lightroom, for me, anyway, was like being in jail.

Interesting comment at 7 minutes about "if you were to try to load 100+ pics into Camera Raw you'd probably crash your computer" because that's exactly what I use it for - batch editing. And sometimes batches up to 800 photos at the same time.

Excellent tutorial John. As a newbie to Camera Raw, and maybe this is a stupid question, but how do you save the mask adjustments?

There is no need to save in Adobe Camera Raw. Once you make an adjustment it is stored in the .xmp file. Don't worry if this confuses you more. It does it automatically.

Sure would be nice if I could ask LR to open an image in ACR. People will say "But LR does everything ACR does" but that's not true. LR doesn't have tone curve masks.

Hi, i saw you made a video on Photo Mechanic too. Which one do you recommend between the two, and why if I may ask. Thanks for the great videos!

Personally, I only use Photo Mechanic. I have used it for 20 years. Recommendations are different. If really depends on what you want it for. Most of my work was photojournalism and now is editorial. I rely heavily on the import and caption which PM excels at. It is simple to the point and exactly what I want in a browser. Comparing do you mean Photo Mechanic and Bridge, Photo Mechanic and Lightroom, or Photo Mechanic and Photo Mechanic. Of the two PM's I hate cataloging in a browser so I would not pick that one.

Thank you for this excellent video. Your courses are the most complete and comprehensive information on Photoshop that I have found. I come from working almost exclusively in Lightroom and have found the transition to Photoshop daunting. Your focus on Photoshop for photographers is so specific to my needs and questions. Since all the RAW files can go straight into Adobe Camera Raw, would you suggest Photomechanic as a better alternative for ease of use than Lightroom? Or would staying in the adobe universe make more sense? Thank you and I look forward to working my way through all your video courses.

I use and prefer Adobe Bridge to using Lightroom. And it is free with Photoshop. Raw files open from Bridge into Adobe Camera Raw and then to Photoshop. I just prefer Bridge over Lightroom.
