The goal of this video is to provide video tutorials on photo editing and photography. I will cover Adobe Lightroom Classic which is the desktop and laptop version of the program, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Bridge, Photo Mechanic a photo browser that is crazy fast, and Final Cut Pro video editing. I use this videos as supplemental instruction for college photography and photo editing classes. I also offer online classes. Please see www.johnwhiteheadimages.com for more information.

@@Jcwphoto Sorry ill try to explain. I use an external 4tb ssd where I keep all my raw photos. One such ssd stopped working but I had a back up on another one. When I opened the old catalogue on the new ssd it started creating previews for tens of thousands of images. I didn't realize until it said "The Lightroom catalogue cannot be opened because there is not enough room on the hard drive named" T7 Shield". Before continuing, please make at least 20 MB available on this hard drive". And the drive was not even half full. So these previews are some how taking up terabytes of data. My question is how can I delete the previews without opening lightroom. If I go to the hard drive itself it says that's it is completely full. Where are those files in that hard drive. Wheres the data filling up the hard drive? Or do I actually have to delete/remove data? Can I restart lightroom using the same catalogue but with previews turned off some how? Thank you for all this!

Great video. I really understand now what .XMP files are I was always confused before. Quick question, I added stars to my photos inFastRawViewer and/or PhotoMechanic and it created .XMP files to those photos folders but it seems it created a catalog automatically when I open them in Lightroom. Is that the case so every time there is an XMP next to a photo Lightroom makes a catalog out of that folder?

Wondering why you cannot instruct LRC to remove these automatically rearing the last 1-3 versions. My catalogues were renamed by LRC few times V10,11,12 I believe. Eureka!! Finally a KZread tutorial made by someone who understands what masterful, professional instructors all know about "methods of teaching and learning". You are a natural at this. The hard work that you put into organizing this content and presenting it is not lost on me. In fact, if you packaged, say, 500 hours of content consisting of complete sets of instructional videos of this caliber, quality, and core-driven knowledge as you demonstrated here, I'd buy it. No question. Period. There are many, many resources on KZread created but albeit free, the majority of them fail miserably because they lack one or more of the elements of the teaching/learning and/or content. I spend hours & hours (much of it frustratingly) in search of KZread tutorials by people of your talents and skills. You truly are really quite exceptional at this, which is why I hope my kudos will help encourage your work to intensify. Although I could go on and on about all the basic principles which may seem elementary on their own, it's the omission of one or more of these basic principles by so many KZread creators that illustrate the point that you have both the talent and knowledge to know to include them all. So, since you do understand the software functions and have the know-how to create tutorials of this length which encompass subject/tools/settings, and mechanics of PS, it would be just terrific for viewers (and for you, I should say) to fully share your gift and know-how. I hope you will. Thank you very much for this tutorial. PS: I just read below something which tells me you teach class. Well, now I'm not surprised. Where do I sign up? Seriously, I would do that if anywhere within 50 miles of Jupiter, FL. No doubt, at 75 years old, I'd be an ol' geezer in the front row of eager (not-so-young) minds. 🙂 Thanks professor. (LOL, "dog ate my pen".)

I take a lot of photos in my workflow consist of working off and SD hard drive but once I finish toning all the images I move that folder to another hard drive for long-term storage and when you change the path of the folder, the catalog can’t find the images anymore and most likely I’m never gonna use them so there’s no need to have them in a catalog
