Unleash The Archers - "The Wind That Shapes The Land" | ROADIE REACTIONS

At the request of Grant, one of the guitarists for Unleash The Archers, I check out "The Wind That Shapes The Land" for the very first time, which is his favorite song on their new album, Abyss. Even though it's an audio only video, I did read along with the lyrics and even added the lyrics in for those of you that watch!

If any band should be worthy of taking the reigns from Iron Maiden it is definitely UTA. It's just impossible for bands to reach that level of a Iron Maiden or Metallica these days. These guys deserve all the love and support.

It is exactly one of those hidden gems in a fantastic album that just makes you grin stupidly when you hear it. An instant favorite of UTA of mine after hearing it. To have Tank check it out was a total treat because I knew he would still find great stuff to talk about and the lyrics video was a really cool bonus. Both Chase and Elizabeth (Charismatic Voice) have done chats with Brittney and there's a few tidbits that would interest you. She played Rugby all through high school and most of university. How more badass can you be, eh? That really got Chase's attention as both him and Brittney played the same position, scrum half. We could see how it was a struggle for Chase to keep the interview on music and not drift off on a Rugby chat. Brittney writes the story line, the lyrics and the vocal melodies. In Apex and Abyss, the growls from Grant usually represent the Matriarch while Brittney sings the Immortal role. Sometimes Brittney also sings the Matriarch with a noticeable change to a more menacing tone. It's an interesting storyline where the woman is pure evil, with her story sometimes being sung by a man, while the story of the male hero is sung by a woman.

This reaction had me grinning like an idiot because it is easily my favourite on the album. The way they write these songs, from lyrics to riffs and timing is just on another level. So when you combine that with the fact that they're just genuinely good people? Not hard to see why they've become my favourite band, and i'm so stoked to see them live when all of this insanity is over. I would highly recommend listening to 4 particular tracks one after the other, because there's a connection that a lot of people miss. Earth and Ashes, Legacy, The Wind That Shapes The Land, and Carry The Flame. I think you'll find the connection. Btw, if you ever go back to the full roadie life? I think we know the band you need to be working for.

I love how preposterously epic of a final showdown this song is for the conflict between the Immortal and the Matriarch. After loving the hell out of Apex and listening to it consistently for 3 years before the release of Abyss finally hearing their battle scene play out in such an over the top and musically intricate fashion is so satisfying. Also, my favorite part about the vocal differences between the characters is that since the Matriarch wasn't responsible for waking the Immortal at the start of this album the harsh vocals representing her don't actually come into play until Return to Me, when she finally realized the Immortal is awake again and is a threat. It's just such a remarkable display of restraint to make sure the story aspect of the album comes through that much stronger.

I love UTA, on Apex and Abyss they've managed to cut out the chees factor that normally turns me off from power metal without sacrificing the epicness the genre is famous for. I would be very surprised if the lyrics and music weren't specifically written to sync up like that, when writing a concept album it's very important to get the music to help tell the story, and having listened to a lot of concept albums not everyone can pull it off as well as UTA have. General of the Dark Army is the best early song from UTA for me, has a lot of the epic story telling qualities you get here but not as well polished since it's nearly 10 years old now, and a cool video as well.

Tank, my man! First, very, very happy that you're reacting to this song! I've heard this song probably hundreds of times since it got released last year -- and I _NEVER_ get tired of hearing it! And yeah, Grant is 1000% right for recommending this song. 🤘🏹🤘 Second, sometimes it's not about the videos, gear, or live performances -- sometimes, its about sitting back, relaxing, and letting a song give you the ear candy you desperately need. Edit: And Tank, in case you didnt catch it, when Brittney sings the lyric "And watch as I drain the light from inside," at about 11:00, it's literally a reference to The Matrix, as Neo jumps into Smith, and destroys him from within, thus freeing himself from Smith's power. The Immortal does the same thing to the Matriarch, albeit in a slightly different fashion.

IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME! THE WIND THAT SHAPES THE LAND Somehow I find myself Standing on the edge of something that I desperately need From this moment I will not be the same No more crying for the things I can't change Here I will put this tale to rest Finish what I started long ago And though it may not be the ending I wish Only victory can bring me home Come I won't wait for long I was never your slave for all eternity And now here we stand face to face Feel the ground Crashing all around Fight to fan the flame Ignite the battle rage Tear the sky Watch the boulders fly As the mountain scape Crumbles in her wake So, you've come to prove yourself Despite the lies you tell You know you won't prevail And I, most powerful of all Have come to see you fall You'll find no mercy here Search within, uncover the will to win Turn against the tide that washes o'er Find the strength to fall and rise again Open up the gates, unleash the force I am the wind that shapes the land Old as time and twice as strong Oceans arise at my command I alone can carry on To break her chains Forward I push on into the storm surrounding me I await her strike Could it be she's reached the pinnacle now? Silence as I stand within the eye In this hurricane of her design And watch as I drain the light from inside Now at last I see what must be done and so I fly Firm within my grasp I hold the spark and shatter it See her eyes go dark Could it be I've finally won the war now? I see the clouds are gone The storm that raged is quiet once again I feel the stars above Shining on the fragments that remain Search within, uncover the will to win Turn against the tide that washes o'er Find the strength to fall and rise again Open up the gates, unleash the force I am the wind that shapes the land Old as time and twice as strong Oceans arise at my command I alone can carry on No What is this I see? Broken before me Once again I pay the price I've nothing without sacrifice

So I actually had very little exposure to Unleash the Archers prior to this video of yours which I came across earlier this week. I had only ever seen their rendition of Northwest Passage (which is fantastic, but nothing like THIS epic thing). After seeing this, I listened to The Wind That Shapes The Land by itself several times, then went and tracked down both the lyrics and music for both Apex and Abyss and spent a couple hours going through the whole story, which was an EXCELLENT use of my time. Those two albums tell quite the epic tale. I also have tracked down every other reaction video to The Wind That Shapes The Land that I could find on KZread. It's safe to say I've gotten a bit obsessed with this tune. However, doing so has *really* made me appreciate you, man. Nobody else I watched had anywhere near the depth of analysis of WHY this song is so good and works so well that you did. Your expertise really makes your videos special. Appreciate that BIG time.

Man, you said something that I also came to realize: they are a needle in a haystack. Long time ago, I heard some power metal songs but they never striked me like Unleash the Archers, somehow they are special. Right after the first day I listen to a couple of their songs, I simply bought their entire catalog.

Found UTA through reaction videos and I’m absolutely hooked. Bought the last 4 albums and haven’t listened to much else for the last several weeks. This song and Soulbound are my favorites off the new album but I can listen to it all from start to end. Tank, I enjoyed your reaction to this video and how appreciative you are of a their musicianship and vocals. Can’t wait for more UTA and don’t think you can go wrong with any of their songs. Test Your Metal is a fun song, Northwest Passage is a great cover, Cleanse the Bloodlines is a fantastic song with an intense video, and General of the Dark Army has lots of great harsh vocals that you love.

Again I watched your latest UTA reaction and found out, we had the same experience with the archers. As I started watching UTA on KZread I did not expect, it catches me as hard as it actually does. Your 'awakening' reaction was my first reactors video to this band and after that, I watched a ton of reactors videos. After 10 different songs I also was totally addicted and lost to the archers. Meanwhile I've got 'Abyss' twice, the normal one and also the Japan edition, because there is a cover from Corey Hart on it. Next one I definitely have to buy is the japanese CD of 'Apex'... Why? I don't know, I have to. But to me it feels heartwarming and satisfying, that you now be also a part of the family. 🤘🏻

So glad Grant suggested this song that has been my favorite of the new album since the first time I heard it!! As a matter of fact I think I didn't make it past this song till I had replayed it at least ten times!!! Agreed UTA should be huge but not everyone has the ability to really "Hear" greatness and appreciate it!.....we are just lucky I guess. Thank for the great reaction Tank. Now maybe you can get Chase on this one....I've been suggesting it since the album came out🙄 🤘🤘

Tank i haven't felt need to comment on one of your videos before, but fantastic job man! This song and the one immediately after it wrap up the double journey. I can't wait for their graphic novel of this!! Both Grant and Britney has said this was their fav song on the album, but you're the first one I've seen react to it. Robert fact: Tank can still create awesome videos when there are no guitars, drum kits, or pyro bursts to analyze :)

Great Reaction! I find that many of UTA's songs are stories in the traditional sense. They open with an introduction, build in the rising action, peak at the climax, and coast into the resolution. Once you've finished the album, may I humbly request a review of it?

Over the past few years I've become very picky when it comes to buying albums, often settling for watching videos on the bands/labels' official channels. But after watching this video and your interview with Grant, I went on Amazon and ordered both Apex and Abyss. You're absolutely right, these guys need whatever support we can give them. Now, if only I could find a copy of Ayreon's The Source without paying through the nose, that would be perfect!
