I tried this on top of dry Coarse Modelling Paste in thick and thin applications, and it didn't crackle at all. Good suggestion to test on different surfaces first.

Did you let the Paste dry completely first... Paste generally has moisture in it.... That could have effected the evaporation AKA the cracking effect.

@@WildCreates Yes, it dried for over a week after adding to artwork. But, it’s possible it was already too dry as I hadn’t used it for a year in its sealed container. I may need to buy another. Not sure the expiry date on it. Makes me wonder if severe uneven surfaces like coarse molding paste alters the crackle effect. It was on rigid large board, not stretched canvas too.

I was showing this to the Mrs and she said her mom would put elmers glue on furniture, paint it, and get this effect. Think ill try the jar 😅

So interesting - You can add elmers to this paste to strengthen the crack if needed. I have used elmers before with painting and go no cracking ( it acts more like a binder ). I wonder it if has to do with a reaction with wood or varnish maybe.... I am curious now

Hi! If you apply this product and seal it with a spray varnish for example , do you know if it will flake over time? Thanks for the help!

  • @WildCreates

    @WildCreates

    5 ай бұрын

If you varnish it it will help seal and protect it.... provided you prepped the painting surface correctly. I can't tell you how long it will last ... You might have to do a little research on that. But I have some pieces that are 7 years plus old and they are going strong with this product and no issues yet. Granted I am not touching them... they are just hanging on a wall. I hope that helps.

Can I apply this after a finished watercolor painting on the top of the painting ?

  • @WildCreates

I have never tried that... Assuming you painted on water color paper you should be completely fine (provided its dry). BUT I always like to recommended testing first for best results.

I'm making some desert landscapes then adding small lizards to the canvas to embellish. Can I pour resin over the crackle? Or do I need to seal the padte?

I have yet to test epoxy on top of this product - I would assume you will be fine provided you are sure its 1000% dry all the way through. You can always test it on a small piece first.

It depends on the quality of canvas boards you bought. I generally add 1 to 3 layers of extra gesso.

Ok thanks Wild. I buy my canvas panels from the hardware store in the netherlands. But after just one layer off gesso my canvas panel bends. Is this a problem? I am a biginner painter and drawer so i don,t wanna spend allot. I payed 4,49 for a 40× 50 canvas panel.

  • @WildCreates

That generally means those are cheaper panel. You can add some weight to them to bend them back into position.

I personally have only used it with acrylic paint. I am sure you can use it with oil paint. You might have to gesso it first ( due to it being very porous ) and seal/varnish it after to make sure everything adheres. Might be worth testing first :) I hope that helps

The Golden website recommendeds not to mix more than 10% paint to the crackle paste then you should be OK to still get cracks

There is a cheaper way to do this. I foolishly took a gesso spray to a black canvas, when the oil paint began to dry, cracks galore!!!!! I kept the painting.

Really - I have used spray gesso a few times and never got it to crack. Did you do anything different or by a certain type?
