    Hi there. You can use water based paint before you put on the crackle. But once you add step 1 and step 2 of the crackle, you can no longer use anything water based at all. I'm going to leave you a safe link for the Pentart solvent based gloss varnish and the Pentart antique paste. I recommend both of these products. I did some experimenting and found out that the Pentart varnish is formulated to work with the fineline crackle. I used a different brand of varnish and it cracked over top of my fineline crackle, so it didn't look very good. For the best outcome you'll need to use the Pentart varnish. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖 Antique-Pentart Umber: decoupagenapkins.com/products/pentart-antique-paste-choose-from-7-shades?variant=44358309511389&sca_ref=3969749.C8aAXEduCt Pentart Solvent Based Varnish (matte or gloss): decoupagenapkins.com/products/pentart-clear-varnish-100-ml-available-in-2-finishes?sca_ref=3969749.C8aAXEduCt

    What would we do without your invaluable information. You know I have so much trouble with crackling, even when I follow the directions. You’ve taken the guesswork out of the equation by showing the names of the products, how to prepare the surface, painting and which types to use, antiquing and various types of crackles. My favorite is the porcelain look. It’s so rich and antique looking. Can’t thank you enough for your help. I will keep this video forever as my Crackle Bible! All your work and help is so greatly appreciated by me and I’m sure many others.

    Hi there Gizmo my friend! I'm so glad to hear that you found this video valuable and helpful. There are so many crackle methods and each one of them has such a different end result. I thought I'd do a video explaining how to use each one and what you can expect to see on your project. I can remember being very confused at one time. I was using the classic crackle and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. What I wanted was the end result that the fineline crackle gives you. By the way, that is my all time favorite as well. I love how it looks like aged porcelain. I use that one A LOT! lol... Let me know if there are any other crafting techniques that you'd like me to do an in depth video on, like this one. I was thinking of doing one explaining exactly how to do the water method decoupage. Any interest in that? I think you said you were having problems with that one. As always, thanks for being such a wonderful fan and friend! And thanks for always watching and taking time to message me 🥰😘🤗

    Hi there! You are so sweet 😘😘😘 I was also thinking of doing an in depth video on the paper bead rolling as well. There is so much you can do with those. They're a lot of fun to make.

    @@masoncreationsetc speaking of paper rolling; the other day, I had to sharpen my eyeliner pencil, and what to my surprise, but what came out was a little rolled piece of the wood that looked like a tiny Rose, and depending on the color of the stick, that color lines the very top of the Rose. Now the size of the rose depends on the size of the crayon that you’re using or the eyebrow or liner stick, and therefore would need a bigger hole to trim it, so the rose would be bigger. Does that sound crazy? I haven’t tried Dowel rods yet in those sharpeners, but that’s my next adventure. There may be occasions where a small flower would be appropriate instead of buying artificial ones in the store that cost money. I’m still trying to figure out how my crazy brain works, and how it always cost me more time and labor. I just recently learned, that my first grand-dog went “over the rainbow”Wednesday before Easter, an expression i’ve never heard of before, but thought was so beautiful, and that brought another thought into my crazy mind. Can you create a plaque for a dog that has gone “over the rainbow”? I hope that’s not too crazy challenging for you, but I have all the faith in the world that you’ll come up with something so beautiful and heartwarming. Our pets are just like our children, and she was a miniature pincher and quite a feisty little lady! I bought a rectangular wooden plaque in Walmart, but haven’t started anything yet. Hoping I can get more inspiration from you. Thanks!

    Oh goodness, I love the idea of the little roses! You could do that with colored pencils. Once you glue it together, you could paint and antique them. I'd add them to lots of crafts. I think that would be so cute. Little mini roses 🌹 I can definitely do an "over the rainbow" plaque. I think that would be so beautiful. Pictures of dogs and rainbows 💕🐶🌈

    I love using Pentart's 2 Part Fine Line Crackle Varnish, it gives craft projects a great vintage look. I've never used oil paint to highlight the cracks, but I do use eye shadow powder for the same effect, especially because eye shadow has mica powder in it. I also use Dixie Belle's 'Dirt' which is a pigment that's made for antiquing furniture, but it's also perfect for using over the Fine Line Crackle Varnish. I live in Melbourne, Australia BTW. Thanks for a great video tutorial. Love from Amanda Jones ❤️

    Hi Virginia! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! If you want it to look like the metal is cracked you don't have to paint it first. However, I would definitely add a clear primer. Polyvine multi surface lacquer in a matte finish is perfect for that. If you want to paint it a color, make sure you add the Polyvine multi surface lacquer prior to the paint. I'll leave a link for you below so you can find it easily. Let me know if you have any other questions. Which crackle are you going to use? If you're going to use the Fineline crackle, you need to make sure you only use solvent based products afterwards. I just use plain ole ordinary paint thinner to clean my brushes. I pour a little bit of it in a glass jar and keep it for cleaning any brushes that I've used that require a solvent. The Pentart Fine Line Crackle varnish is actually water based and will clean up with soap and water. I use Speedball pink soap to clean brushes that have been used for water based products. 9 күн бұрын

    Hi Rita, I've never done a project like what you're describing, but if I were to do it, this is what I believe would work. I would do the crackle finish first and then paint over the crackle. The type of crackle that you want, you won't be able to put over your painting. It needs to go between two layers of paint. Paint your board a dark color, let it dry and then paint Folkart crackle medium and let dry. Then paint your contrasting color like a white or cream. It will start cracking as you are putting the paint on. After it dries, paint your picture. You could probably do some antiquing afterwards to make sure the cracks show where you painted your picture. Here's a video where I used that crackle technique. I didn't paint a picture over it though. I believe that this is what you're wanting to do. Tim from San Diego here with a question. I'm using FolkArt crackle medium on a project. Will I get the good crackle effect if I use a rattle can to spray the top color over the Crackle medium? The spray paint is an acrylic. I'm using a spray because I want to end up with a smoother surface than if I used a brush on top coat. Thanks very much!

    Hi Tim, I normally use acrylic or latex paint. I haven't ever tried using spray paint. But it's paint, so it should work, but I'm not sure. I would try it on a little sample and see what happens. Can the fineline be used on a tumbler with mica powder and then epoxy after?

  • @masoncreationsetc

    @masoncreationsetc

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Debbie I have never tried epoxy over the fineline crackle. However epoxy is not water based, so it should work fine. Water based products will ruin the crackle. You can definitely use the mica powder. I use it all the time with the fineline crackle. I would try it on a sample piece of something first and make sure the epoxy works. I wouldn't try it on your project until you are confident it works well. I save empty jam jars or pickle jars to try things on. I never try something new on my actual project until I know it works 😊 Let me know how it does, I'd love to know. And I'd love to see pictures. • @masoncreationsetc

    Hi Jenn, It may need a little heat. Did you try a blow dryer for a few minutes? Sometimes the cracks are there, but they're hard to see. Heat will bring them out. Just a couple troubleshooting questions: Did you let component #1 dry completely before adding component # 2? Component #1 needs to turn complete clear before moving to the next component. Have you added any antiquing yet? Give it a try, the cracks may appear. Did you get Fineline crackle or Classic crackle? Each one will react differently to the type of antique you use. Fineline requires a solvent based antique, such as oil paint. Classic will need a water based antique. Let me know if you need any additional help. If it's cold and damp where you are, it may just need some heat, try the blow dryer. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

    Can you mix some glue in with one of the on step crackle mediums for a different kind of crackle? I've tried so many brands and have had such terrible luck and it makes no sense, I do what the directions say and.... nada. I have Mont Marte crackle paste now and I want to add some crackle to a canvas art piece I'm working on with my own drawings as decoupage, other decoupage, moge poge, glaze and an assortments of paints. Too much going on? I just want it in certain areas, maybe around the edges.

    Hi! I used glue 2 parts to 1 part water. Im using a wood surface and a porcelein one that has been decoupaged. So i did a base color of black then added the glue mix on top ..i let it dry for 5 minutes and then used white acrylic paint on top. It didnt turn out how i wanted it..the decoupaged didnt do anything..the wood looks kinda distressed but no real crack or very few..im disappointed. So can i go over it with a crackle medium instead of glue? Help! Thank you!! 😊😊😊

    Hi Carol. If you're going to use the glue crackle method, do not water down the glue. Use it straight out of the container. Don't let the glue dry at all, paint your contrasting color right over the wet glue. This is only meant to be used between two layers of paint. It won't work over top of a decoupaged image. If you want cracks on your decoupaged image, you'll need to use Pentart Fineline Crackle. And then you can only use solvent based antiques and varnishes. I'll leave you some links for these products. I'm also going to leave you a link for a video where I used the Fineline crackle over a decoupaged image. This shows you step by step how to do it. Let me know if you have any questions at all. • @masoncreationsetc

    Ай бұрын

    Hi there, I would say the best result would be the Pentart fineline crackle system. It will give you really fine delicate cracks. However, I'm not really positive how it will work over oil paints, as I've never tried it. Once you use that crackle system you cannot use any water based varnishes or antiques over top of it. Only solvent based sealers, in matte or glossy. You can use dark brown oil paint as your antiquing medium to accent your cracks. I'll leave you some links as well as a link to a video where I used this crackle system and used oil paint as my antiquing medium. Let me know how it turns out, and I'd love to see pictures. I'll leave you my email address in case you like to share your results with me. Let me know if you have any other questions. I’ve been trying to do a crackle on my cupboards. I bought a white matte acrylic paint for the base. Then I put the crackle paint, let it dry. Then I put the top coat which is a dark grey acrylic, but it doesn’t crack. But when reverse the colours with white on the top it cracks beautifully. Totally confused 🤔

  • @masoncreationsetc

    @masoncreationsetc

    Ай бұрын

    Hi Cheryl, that's really odd. Some of the crackle paints are a chemical reaction that makes them crack. My guess would be that there's something in the grey paint that prevents it from cracking. Try a different brand of paint. I would definitely get some small pieces of wood from Dollar Tree and do a bunch of test samples on those before experimenting on your cupboards. Good luck! I hope you can find something that will work. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

I've not used the two you named, but I'm going to leave you a couple of links for a some crackle that should do what you need. Either one should work well for you. But the first one you should be able to add a lot of swirling texture. 1. Ranger Crackle Texture paste- paint the background black and let dry, mix red paint with the crackle paste to put over top and let dry. As it dries the cracks will appear. . It will crack and the black will show through. This not only gives you cracks, but will add swirls of texture as well. 2. FolkArt one step crackle- paint background black and let dry, paint crackle medium and let dry, paint red and it will start cracking immediately. Hi Debra, I'm not sure why, I've never had that happen. Normally the fineline crackle turns out beautiful. I let step 2 dry for a few hours then use a blow dryer to deepen the cracks. Did you use antiquing afterwards to enhance the cracks? Was it water based? If so, that would cause a problem. It needs to be solvent based, which means, you would need to clean your brushes with paint thinner and not water. Also, you need to seal it afterwards with a solvent based clear varnish. Either paint on or spray on. Let me know your steps exactly and what products you used, so I can guide you 😊 Thanks for watching and sending me a message 💖😊

    Hi Debra, That's solvent based so you're good there. Maybe that's what is staying sticky. I've never used Pentart Liquid Patina, but I spray all my projects with a clear varnish in either a gloss or matte. You may want to try that, it should get rid of the sticky feel. I would try it on a sample something first. Do all the same steps and then try the spray varnish and see what happens. I hate trying something new on my actual project, just in case. I'll leave you links for the two that I use. Please let me know how it turns out. 😊 Triple thick glaze (Amazon): amzn.to/3DSbyPe Matte spray sealer (Amazon): amzn.to/3j19tGm

  • @masoncreationsetc

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Debbie Unless you paint the wood sewing machine drawer, you won't get a very good crackle effect. In order to crackle properly there needs to be 3 layers. Paint, crackle and then paint again. I just did a quick test to see if I could get it to work on bare wood. The Folkart crackle didn't crack at all. The Elmer's school glue gave minimal cracks that were very tiny. My suggestion would be to paint the drawer, when dry add the Elmer's glue. While the glue is still wet, add your contrasting color. Definitely do this section at a time. It dries fast and will be hard to do it all at once. The Folkart Crackle Medium will produce a more even crackle when doing a large area. For this one paint the drawer, when dry add the crackle medium and let that dry. Then add your contrasting paint color. Work this one in sections as well. Let me know if you have any other questions. You may want to buy some wood blanks from the dollar store to experiment on. Don't experiment on your drawer, wait until you know exactly what the plan is. Thanks so much for watching and sending me a message all the way from Indianapolis, Indiana 😍😊
