Everyone blaming people letting conditions go because of lack of healthcare, YALL…he went to a derm. They dismissed him. He had access to healthcare and they didn’t biopsy him. The conversation should more be on the fact that we can’t always trust doctors to do the right thing.

My mom was told her whole life she was fat & just needed to lose weight. Actually she had 2 heart conditions since birth that killed her kidneys & I lost her in 2017. My Aunt Ginger was told she had chronic bronchitis for 2 yrs. Actually it was breast cancer that spread like wildfire in her body. She didn't even make it to hospice. & I was told for over 12 yrs my stomach issues were because I was female, depression, anxiety, or my personal favorite "all in my head" actually it was crohn's all along. You're not wrong in your statement. There is no money to be made in a cure. & there's a lot of doctors out there that shouldn't be allowed to be in the healthcare industry

You are so correct. It’s so hard to find a good doctor now days. Thankfully I have been able to find a doctor that is very thorough with everything. Kinda annoying in a way because she knows I hate going to doctors and if I don’t go to my follow ups she cancels my prescriptions until I go see her but I wouldn’t go see her otherwise! So thankful for her.

My doctors aren't listening to me either. Pushing pills that don't help but make me sick. Then I have to stop taking them instead of doing the testing they should be doing. Trying to get a new doctor.

Is there any limitation in term of healthcare coverage in the US? I mean there are many cases havent been treated properly before seeing dr.Lee. Some people waited so long that the mass was huge.

Maybe they see it so often and know it is harmless, so they don't play enough attention to it. It happen in all field, but being a doctor that deal with people's life, I would like them to be more careful.

Dr. Lee is so personable. There is no “superiority” when she engages with her patients. Very classy!

Uh, she is adorbs, because she is a TV doctor. Let me tell you about people who work as TV Personalities. No one out there in the TV audience knows what Dr. Lee is really like in real life. I am not saying that she's good or bad or whatever. I am saying that her job is to be a TV doctor -- lights, camera, ACTION!

I suffered from mouth ulcers. A doctor told me it was an autoimmune disease and that it would eventually go away. I waited for 12 years, and almost every day during this time, I had multiple ulcers in my mouth. As soon as one healed, another would pop up. There was a time when I had 32 small ulcers on my tongue, making it the most painful week of my life. I felt emotionally and physically drained. Despite trying various medicines, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I began researching and discovered that wheat sensitivity could be the cause. I stopped eating wheat for a month, and the ulcers stopped appearing. This change significantly improved my quality of life.

Drs don’t realise the connection between what we eat and our diseases. The majority of them are just highly paid d ug dealers that just treat the symptoms. If you have food intolerances they can cause all sorts of problems.

My husband has celiac disease too, recently diagnosed. He used to get them all the time and we thought it was just stress. Now gone with the elimination diet

Getting such a diagnosis is GREATLY stress reducing. His and his wife's life suddenly became much, much more pleasant. That is worth a LOT!

Yeah, I had a mystery rash that lasted a whole year. First, got told it was ringworm, but then antifungal medication did nothing, MAYBE made it worse. After that got ruled out, kept getting told that it was "contact dermatitis", by a dermatologist. I stopped using all detergents and only used castile soap, no change. I suffered for a whole year with painful red splotches all over my arms, and torso, as well as getting dirty looks and told to "cover up" because I was "disgusting and dirty", I was wearing sweaters in 90 degree weather and felt so shamed and stressed. Finally went to a GP for something else, he asked when he saw the rash on my collar bone, so I showed him. Finally he told me what it really was: psoriasis. Gave me steroid cream, the horrible rash that I'd suffered through for a YEAR disappeared within two weeks. The stress was so bad it felt like there were steel rods in my shoulders from how tense I held myself without realizing. When the rash finally went away, the tension left my body so quick I was shaking and started sobbing when I looked in the mirror and realized it was going away. Got told by close friends that for that whole year, it was like I was just an outline of myself, and that I "came back" once I had the confirmed diagnosis. Psoriasis sucks, don't get me wrong, but honestly I was just so happy to have a real answer, I didn't care that it was "bad news".

@@saratavington5435 Back in the early 1970's I was in for a check up and I asked my doctor who is the best diagnostician and he had a ready answer. I never saw the doctor he named but I figured doctors who had been practicing for a few decades in the same community probably knew who was the best for specific things. But, of course, I keep in mind that anybody can be wrong. After all, it's called the "practice" of medicine.

​@@saratavington5435 Sara I suffer from the same stress you felt for no real reason except my shoulders become so stiff needles bend and break being inserted. When the stress is almost gone I feel like a weight is lifted from my shoulders, physiotherapy can't cure me so I know exactly how you would have felt.

It's sweet how he lovingly calls his wife "the warden". He is glad that she stays on him to take care of himself.

@Debbe Mitchell They showed us studies when I was in nursing school showing that married men live longer. It is because the wife nags and drags him to get things looked at because she doesn't want to lose him. Obviously, that doesn't work for all couples! Go to the doctor if you can, people. Don't leave your loved ones alone.

Necrobiosis Lipoidica can be caused by Autoimmune Diseases, like MS and he said he had this too, so there's the link, although it is most commonly associated with Diabetes, and it can be a warning sign of Diabetes Type 2 to develop later on in life, so it would be good for anyone that has NL to have regular blood-tests to check for Diabetes. It can also be associated with Thyroid Disease and Coeliac Disease, and other conditions too. Just a little extra info in case anyone finds this helpful xx

I have NL on my right shin. Mine is due to an autoimmune disease called Sarcoidosis. Many different things can cause NL.

Agreed.. like others I wonder treatment etc, but also what does it even mean?? They cut out any definition or explanation Dr Lee likely gave so I don't even know what NL is or does other than my guess at breaking down the name Dr Bernard/chubbyemu-style.... maybe something like degradation of fat cells in living tissue...? Probably not though since both areas aren't very fatty..... Like OP said, I *am* glad they at least included the diagnosis but it's a little frustrating not getting context for it

I'm surprised how casually he says he's been diagnosed with MS! REALLY? That would scare me worse than any skin problem.

I had squamous cell on my neck like that. - Dermatologist #1 injected steroid and said it’ll clear up. - Dermatologist #2 spotted it immediately. The excision was huge. I’m grateful it was on my neck and not face. Moral of the story is to get a second opinion.

Me and Matt use to work together years back....I remember the oyster bed cut when it happened because if he wasn't working this cat was fishing in the marsh all the time! Glad to see your doing well dude!

I’m a 26 year uterine cancer survivor because my doctor found it early enough to be surgically cured via a hysterectomy and no need for any chemo or radiation. I also had a small skin cancer successfully removed earlier this year. Don’t ever put off checking something out!

Even when found early...my husbands showed a mole to his doc on a visit for something else. He had surgery and it was removed. No chemo nor radiation. He died from cancer that spread from the original site 36 later. Yes, he did yearly exams, complained to docs and he was put off.

Or insisting you believe a skin biopsy is needed when doc doesn't think so. That biopsy came back Squamous Cell CA. Squamous Cell can metastasize, they let that spot was between 2 knuckles for 5 yrs-why I insisted on a biopsy!

My husband let a condition go on for the longest time ever. Always complained about pain but didn’t seek medical help even with me nagging him to do so until I had enough of the complaints and booked him into see a doctor. Turns out he had two frozen shoulders. Two cortisone shots later, completely fine. Seriously guys/ladies, don’t let the pain or a condition such as this guys and my husbands persist, go see a doctor. So glad this man got the answers he needed. He made me tear up a little. Such a nice man. Edit: thought I’d update my post. My husband has now had a total of 3 injections in both shoulders with physio. So while we thought the first lot worked, it didn’t. I feel so sorry and helpless for him. All because he took up golfing again. We will keep persevering. It maybe time for divine intervention. Look after yourselves everyone.

Soon as scans were done and he got confirmation from doc, I turned to him and said not frozen shoulders hey…you’re not a doctor lol it was more his whining that got to me lol joking. Soon as tears started it was time for me to intervene.

I was diagnosed with Granuloma Anulare. I had Crohn’s. Called the dermatologist office just to tell them. Just in case someone else has this same thing. They just said what Do you want us to do??? Totally just didn’t care. Mine was a Crohn’s rash. I wish I could have gotten to see Dr Lee. She is so great!!

He seems like such a sweet guy who loves his wife and kids with all his heart. I’m glad he’s taking care of himself and he can continue to love his family

He has such an Amazing Wife that Loves him and Cares for him so much.

I was interested to hear that quite a few comments had to do with dermatologists not seeming to take enough time to really look . My husband has a lot of moles especially on his back. I noticed that 3 or 4 of them were growing and had uneven edges. This can often be a sign of a melanoma. He went to a dermatologist to have his whole body checked before he retired. The doctor came in, glanced at his back and said everything was fine. He didn’t check the rest of his body or give any assurances. I’m going to send him to another dermatologist for a second opinion. You have to be proactive with your health. Needless to say, we won’t be going back to the first doctor.

You just brought back a memory. I (an American) studied abroad in New Zealand as an 18 yr old. I was having a conversation with a local and said “yes ma’am” in response to a question and she gave me the weirdest look. After a few moments she told me she didn’t think I meant to be rude but that I probably shouldn’t say that in New Zealand. Lol. Interesting lesson learned!

So nice how he spoke of his wife and child wonderful family . Glad for the help for them.. hope he watches and has his numbers checked I have diabetes it snuck up on me . Best to Matthew

He reminds me so much of my brother. Unfortunately, my brother lost his battle with cancer at 25. Leaving a 6 and 3 year old. Hope this family continues to have many years of fun, love and laughter.

I got my first granuloma allunare on my ankle when I was 15 and I didn't have diabetes then either. My granulomas spread and then fade and then regrow in other areas. I developed diabetes when I was pregnant and it didn't go away even after drastic weight loss. It's amazing what the skin can tell us!

I am always amazed at how many times something is missed by doctors. We are all human, but it's a shame when the wrong diagnosis can snowball into something so critical. I saw a dermatologist several years ago and he was more interested in talking to the resident with him than he was to me. Definitely not the caliber of Dr. Lee.

I agree with this ! I went to a dr last month for my throat he looked at me gace me a mouth wash and sent me home . Didn’t feel confident in his answer, went to another dr , he was shocked how bad I was and I’m having surgery next month 😣😣

I went to 4 dermatologists for something on my foot that I had for 11 years. I went to the 5th doctor who was the best in town. In 15 minutes I got a definite answer of having a foot fungus. By 6 weeks we will know what kind of fungus. The cure? 3 months of an antifungal. I was so relieved to find out what it was.

All doctors should be like Dr Lee.

I’ve had NL for almost 30 years. Was diagnosed almost 5 yrs before I became diabetic after the births of my 2 sons. Worst thing I ever did was use steroid cream prescribed by dermatologists. Made them super painful when touched. The spots aren’t really active now after all this time and mainly look like faded scars.

I love Dr. Lee. She’s an awesome doctor. But if NL is associated with diabetes and he is not diabetic, he really needs to get his pancreas checked for pancreatitis. Because if he has pancreatitis, it will turn into cancer if untreated. I am a widow for that reason.

@@athia37 as a daughter who lost her mother to pancreatic cancer 41 years ago, which was only discovered through exploratory surgery and all they could do was close her back up at that point (no other tests would explain her pain and weight loss), I completely agree with you. She was gone 6 months after diagnosis, which was longer than they expected. I was a 26 year old newlywed. I despise that disease.

I must admit, I was concerned that nobody mentioned trying to diagnose the cause. Whilst pretty much all of the possible causes would fall outside of the realm of dermatology (&, therefore, wouldn't be Dr Lee's field) I hope she told him to go and see his regular doctor (GP) for follow-up/further investigation.

Oh my gosh, I was in the same situation!! I’ve had 2 punch biopsies and nobody’s even read me the results! I’ve been brushed off so many times. Seeing this though and being on a drug for pre diabetes has made it disappear! I’m glad this guy found relief. I’m also glad I came across this video because researching more into this, it’s definitely what I have!

I've been told I'm "pre-diabetic", but don't have this skin condition. I sure hope I don't develop it either.

It must be so frustrating for people seeing doctors for their conditions for decades, to be told don't worry about it, it will go away, then to have Dr Lee wrap things up within a matter of weeks...why aren't these other doctors following the same procedures?..🤔

I went to over 55 physicians throughout Southern California hoping for a diagnosis over the course of 15 years. Misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis. I took some pretty dangerous meds in an effort for relief. Meds that required weekly blood tests and two forms for birth control. A new dermatologist opened a brand new practice and I booked an appointment immediately. Within 3 minutes she told me that I have Hidradenitis suppurativa.

7 different Drs, 3 of which were derms. Last time, doctor made a 4 inch long, half-inch wide incision, remove that piece of skin in its entirety and stitch me back up. I had two malignant melanomas. Both of them were less than 1 mm when he took all the skin off my arm, he swore he got both of the melanomas should be no problem. Six months later I had to go back to another dermatologist and have one of them look at melanomas removed that he missed, all derms are not created equal

I have the same thing on my shin I’ve been to my doctors for it and they had no idea. I am diabetic definitely showing the doctor the name so I can maybe finally get some help. Had mine for about 5 years now.

Especially because this is not an extremely rare condition that would necessarily take someone with a very narrow specialty to at least diagnose. If baffled, rather than shuffle you out the office and leave you hanging, as many good MDs out there would he should have pleasantly stated it’s not his primary area and urged you to immediately consult a specialty derm practice.

The Dr says don't put off a doctor's visit for something that's worrying you...thing is, he DID visit doctors..even specialists and they did him no good.

Did he say he was diagnosed with MS? Oh geez, I'm glad he's doing ok and doing his best to be healthy.

@@Dr_KW Diabetes is cause by the saturated fats we eat (meat, eggs, dairy) and the fat we wear-high blood sugar is a symptom of diabetes not a cause.

As a person who has had a “mystery rash” on my shoulders and back for months, it’s amazing how little many doctors and dermatologists know about rashes. They never seem to know what it is, they just throw different treatments and medications at the rash, hoping something works. Doctors need to do better.

Mystery rashes are the worst. The make you miserable and legitimately damage mental heath, as well. It’s true that we don’t know what causes a whole lot of rashes - I used to suffer so much from dishydrosis. I would get it randomly and it would last for weeks. What’s sad, is that no other doctor chose to preform a simple biopsy to diagnose it, which caused extended stress and worry for the patient and his wife… Dr. Lee goes above and beyond in all cases to get answers.

I'm so sick of this "lack of healthcare" bs. He went to two dermatologists! He had access to healthcare. Maybe ask why people are being dismissed!

The way the treats his wife is amazing!! She's lucky to have a man like this!. 😅😅

I have been dismissed by so many doctors, having that moment of finding someone to listen is magical.

I felt so sad at the start watching this poor man filling up, thinking he might die from cancer, not see his son grow up, or vica versa. He has been, in my opinion,watching from the U.K., been treated or rather not treated properly by his doctor and two dermatologists…the mental anguish they have caused him was so unnecessary. Dr PP acted quickly and got a diagnosis….I would have loved to learn if she is going to be able to do any surgery to help, though seeing his arm after that was cut about with oyster shells after a fall, maybe surgery isn’t an ideal solution. Wonder too if he needs to test again for diabetes…it may have been missed. Lastly, very sorry to hear he also has MS…a rotten deal all round. Ignoring something won't make it go away. If it's something serious it's always better find out sooner than later.

Doctor visits are scary after you get a dx like MS, I know personally. I’m glad he received the help he needed.❤

What was the treatment? How about a follow-up on how he's doing now.

Autoimmune diseases are said to be a cause of NL, and he stated that he's been dx with MS.

Yes unfortunately there are so many things that can come along with autoimmune diseases that it's hard for a doctor to list all the things. I have Lupus and I've had all kinds of issues that go back to that

@@tinahickman6300 Do you know if you are sensible to gluten? People with gluten sensitivity or allergy could develop other cronic diseases including lupus, cancer etc... It is the disease with more symptoms in the history of medicine and it could affect any organ (s) or any system (s) in the body and from head to toe in and out. It’s serious and insidious and should be taken care of ASAP. Once diagnosed it could be controlled with diet and extreme dedication to not consume gluten that is everywhere, from wheat flour to sodas, ice cream, prepared comercial sauces in any type of package, marmalade, TV dinners, canned food, snacks, junk food, cereals, pastries, candy, chocolate etc... if the product doesn’t day: Gluten Free, consider that is contaminated.

I’m saddened the Health Care Professional’s would treat this patient this way so sad. Thank God Dr. Lee gave him a purpose Hod Bless you

My condolences on the tragic loss of your husband. I hope you're managing to hold up, with the help of family and friends.

I had the exact same experience with a granuloma annulare. Luckily mine did go away and it was the correct diagnosis, but the dermatologist visit was truly less than one minute and still cost me over 100 for the consult.

I think what makes this show enjoyable is Dr. Lee. She is a good soul, kind but honest. Able to treat patients like people but also willing to not hold back on that honesty

I had a similar issue saw 3 dems who told me nothing to worry about... 10 yrs later another derm and a biopsy turns out it was basal cell carcinoma. I had to get MOHS due to size and location. Seems that because it was on my ribs/side it was a rare occurrence not a typical location and not deemed a concern by those other Drs. I ended up with a 6 inch scar not pretty but it was benign and that was the most important.

Carcinoma IS CANCER. Benign means Not cancer.

His wife is sweet, she cares so for him and seems like a fantastic supporter

Good to see normal events we all go through.

NL is also associated with RA, rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disorder. MS, which he IS diagnosed with, is also an autoimmune disorder. So it’s not necessarily a warming sign of diabetes.

It's also associated with Sarcoidosis, which is an autoimmune disease. I have both NL and Sarcoidosis.

Associated with does not mean caused by, there is only correlation with these things. There is a direct causative link to diabetes.

it really is hard for so many dads to get these kinds of things checked. i'm glad he did it for himself and his family

Aw it's a shame we don't get to see the treatment recommendation or how he responds to it - NL seems to be pretty difficult to treat so it'd be interesting to see how he gets on.

He is a Bless Man that his Wife and Family are concerned about it because a lot of families just brush it off I'm glad he found out what it was and that can be taken care of hopefully

It’s inflammation of the blood vessels but mostly types 1 diabetics get this a lot and the doctors still doesn’t know the true causes of this. But mostly treatments are taking cream, injections of corticosteroids anti inflammatory drugs and medicine to help with blood flow

That’s awesome that it’s not cancer! I felt quite invested in this after watching for just a couple of minutes! They seem like lovely ppl, that’s probably why. 👍

It’s good that it’s not cancerous but it’s still sad that he still doesn’t know how to treat it.

This show is fr making me cry now. Since when did they start getting deep into stories 😭 it’s not even about the process of getting cured anymore it’s just character development and I’m not complaining

It would have been nice to know how this condition is treated and if it can be cured!

I had such a thing too, on my left shoulder and it kept growing and growing for about a month. Went to see the pharmacist, they didn’t want to touch it and sent me right to see the doctor, saw the doctor, who looked cluelessly irked and sent me to see a dermatologist. I went to the dermatology emergency and as soon as they saw it they told me « haha I see someone’s been around cats lately » it was a fungus transmitted by my friend’s kitten scratching me a few weeks back while playing. And there my nightmare ended. Thank you dermatologist

He has a great voice. Eating fresh, exercising or praticing a sport, and taking care of their mind are the keys for a treatment.

He is, or has been, a smoker. That is obvious by his voice AND barrel chest. While his voice is pleasant, the causes are NOT to be admired, and could lead to cancer, emphysema, and/or COPD.

My hubby has pre diabetes too but he doesn’t have those’s things on his skin he loss a-lot of weight he was a size 40 in his waist now he’s a size 32!

Diabetes and MS are both considered to be autoimmune diseases. I have lupus and Sjogrens which are autoimmune so I read a lot and try to keep up.

@@smc130 traditionally yes, MS is considered an autoimmune disease, however in recent years that has come into question. More modern day thought is that MS May not be AI, but rather better classified as a Neuro Degenerative disease. I have both MS and Behçets Disease, I hear you about keeping up on reading about health. Be well. xoxo

This is serious and should be studied. I had a patch just like this and was given the 1st diagnosis. Just ate from the produce section, mainly a veggie salad and a fruit salad. It cleared up super fast.

You were probably allergic to something, removed it from your diet and the issue resolved. Not the same situation.

Ana, yes. I saw a clear description of this and how it breaks down the layers of skin until it goes through the collagen, then spreads through the whole body. The dermatologist and dr both were emphatic that it wasn't cancer. That article said it wasn't. Until it got through the last barrier. So, I remembered a dr I saw on TV saying how she got rid of cancer by sticking to produce. So that is what I did straight out of the gate. Then I did tons of studying. River, I know exactly how my leg looked and it was exactly like this, with the same diagnosis. Cancer is the result of bad eating habits, along with environmental effects. In that regard you are right about food. A lot of what I went to the doctor about cleared up after he explained about food and studying on it more. I consider myself blessed that it was found early, went away, and never came back.

Cancer is your own cells, your own body, turning on itself. Your body works like a computer, when something is wrong, you will see glitches, like wounds that don't heal and such. What you eat affects your body, and knowing that the tobacco industry is owning the food industry, it starts to make sense, to make your food fresh instead of buying pre made products. Also you gotta figure out what your body responds best to, I thought I had adult acne, but after cutting flour and milk from my diet, the acne cleared up, so what I have found out, is that it wasn't adult acne, but an allergic reaction. I still get reactions, because I have IBS, so my stomach likes something once, then not the next time. Eating salad has helped me tremendously, I weigh the same, but I am no longer bloated, and my waist has shrunken, so the excess fat I had begun to build up around the hip and belly area, disappeared. I have never been a overweight person, but both close friends and family, have been or are struggling with it, so I know just how difficult it is to try to change. I didn't expect what happened to happen, but I am grateful for it. So I can say that changing out what you eat has an impact. (I rather swoop something out, instead of cutting it out, as it makes the transition easier, like I have rice milk, instead of cows milk, I eat salad instead of bread) Just don't follow diets, you need to listen to your own body, what reactions does it have, and you need at least 3 months for changes to be visible. Good luck. ❤️

It is so stressful dealing with an unknown condition, and in general putting off hearing potential “bad news” not only robs a person of their peace of mind but can also deprive them of their best potential for a cure. Medical providers need to do a better job of educating the general public and their patients about seeking treatment as soon as something unusual shows up. But also, as patients, we need to be our own advocates and be persistent in seeking a solid diagnosis and appropriate care.

So happy for them

The only thing I can think of is that somehow his MS, which might be untreated, could have something to do with his condition, rare as it may be. MS can affect people in different ways, and compromise parts of the body that might be unexpected. I hope he can do follow-up examinations and tests where he is to determine what the next best steps are to prevent this condition and/or slow the spread of his MS.

What about treatment? Did he have a glucose tolerance test to actually confirm he doesn’t have diabetes? People can have diabetes for decades and not even realize it until something catastrophic happens.

he only needs to have an A1c once a yr; aka glycolated hemoglobin. actually this blood test should be part of everyone's yearly physical; it is a long term indicator of diabetes.

I have one on each shin . I've had them for 15-20 years. I was told granuloma annulare. But I've never had any tests. I don't have insurance, so I haven't done anything. So glad they haven't grown.

Some ppl might call me a depressing or a ghoul or whatever but l love watching Dr Lee, she is so caring. I was particularly interested in this man's diagnosis as l have a similar condition strange how my GP did not tell me what it was yet they that l am type 2 diabetic for over 11 yrs now. I actually confirmed my leg blemish from my research on YT but then Dr Lee's programme double confirmed it. Such a good doctor for caring.

Steroid injections around the edge to try and keep it from growing. Also, heavy duty steroid cream. I suffer from NL myself.
