Very proud dad moment today (I was there at Henley). Oxford Brookes A team in the first video views in maroon kit and my son Toby Lassen, who is still 19 is 3rd from Right (bow) in seat 3. Washington are a great team and started strongly being ahead for a bit and neck and neck for a while as Brookes just did their thing with both on 40 strokes a minute at one point. Brookes then pulled ahead as they have done before as the opposition tired and won by two lengths, something they have consistently achieved during the week. I spoke to some of the Washington people afterwards and they were fine losing to such an experienced team like Brookes. About 25 kilometres a day on the water training, weights, ergo, cycling, great coaching and a disciplined hard working team all made this finally happen. Tears of joy by all of us with pent up emotions and a release of the stress afterwards, now followed by celebrations to reward all the hard work put in and a fab result for Brookes University rowing club. Their 4 boat team also won their final today so, what a great day.

@@thesaint8400. He is at Oxford Brookes Uni, NOT the famous Oxford Uni. He went there for the rowing and Brookes have beaten Oxford and Cambridge crews over the years but they are under the rader it seems but are very well rated with their rowing capabilities. In fact, since 1993, Brookes have won 36 times, Harvard in the USA , 18 times with Oxford and Cambridge way down the list!

@@jimlassen9422 Yes - the Brookes rowing programme is stronger than the Oxbridge operations. It is well integrated into the international setup and attracts many or our most talented youngsters who have World and Olympic ambitions. It is rated one of the strongest student clubs in the world. Brookes has a decent academic reputation, but is not elite like Oxbridge. Oxbridge doesn't drop its admission standards for athletes, so rowers in the Boat Race have to have a brilliant academic record as well as their elite physical abilities. This restricts the talent pool that the Oxbridge programmes can draw on, giving Brookes the edge on the water.

The push at 4:20 is insane. The bladework, accuracy and tempo are just crazy. Could these guys have beaten the Leander guys in the Ladies Plate perhaps?

It’s mostly UW’s 3 and 4V against a darn good Brookes crew. Would have been fun to see Brookes vs Cal or Yale
