The government could stop this lunacy immediately by withdrawing grants and all financial support for Academia and the Arts.

I am so tired of people canceling brilliant people e.g. David Hume, because he had connections to the slave trade. Well guess we all do in 21st unless you live in remote jungle, you have a smart, phone laptop, fast-fashion clothes. They are linked to the modern day slave trade, and horrific child labor in Africa for rare earth metals like cobalt. So realize that we are tainted by the same sin as Hume.
Hope they go bust.
Lesson .. Never confuse academia with intelligence. The former, someone else's ideas. The latter, all your own !

Thank you for this discussion. Totally agree with Michelle and Joanna Williams.
If you want to talk about slaves, this is still going on in the UK. Many wealthy coloured families employ people of their own race to act as housekeepers, cooks, nannies etc, on slave wages.

One could expand this to include many workers in so called zero hours contracts. The word slavery is synonymous with working in a structure that reduces freedom. Financial depravation reduces people to solely working for extrinsic motivations, and leaves little money for anything else. Working to exist rather than working for intrinsic goals is a form of slavery. However, even the very poorest of the population in developed countries will never experience the grinding poverty of many in low cost nations. I have run projects to equip young women with basic skills in Upper Egypt, where such young women have little choice but early marriage and in poverty striken outskits of Mexico where basic sanitation and transport are rare commodities. Just showing such people how to do basic office or factory skills can lift them from dependency and depravation, and give then opportunities to thrive. Slavery of this nature is reality for 10s of millions around the world.
JKR withdraw her donations ? Royal Infirmary next ? Funny that "cancel people" are absolutely nobody's and have nothing to offer.

They have a condition called egoic carbunculus that simply burst if you so much appear to challenge them with a different view... it's far too painful ...hence the button keeping them emotionally and intelligently retarded and ignorant. It's about feeling empowered the same effect as high visibility jacket and carrying a clip board bestows on the person.

Don't go to university kids. Stay in work and read books in your spare time. You'll save thousands of pounds and find your own way in life.

Some of the most cretinous people I've ever met are down by the head with degrees and honours and doctorates etc. Having a good memory for facts and figures doesn't make you intelligent, it just makes you good at exams.

I've being saying this for years. The really lucky ones are those with both these gifts. They are also pleasant people to be around.
Hume is one of the greatest philosophers who ever lived. Interestingly enough, during his life he was somewhat "cancelled" by the Scots Presybyterian Establishment who accused him of atheism. This was how the Scottish Enlightenment came to an end, with intellectuals moving to the freer speech in England. What goes around comes around; it's an indication of how the Puritan impulse is resurgent in PC/Woke.

Great that donation have fallen. A very good sign of common sense slowly coming back.
Withdraw public funding from these woke, learning factories
Philistines.
You cannot erase the past and your spot on. Unfortunately many people of today hold up these racist from the past which means we have learnt nothing. Yes it may seem harsh that the few word he spoke can besmirch his character but regards of time these are his words and his beliefs. He was a man of influence then as he is now so the passing of time makes no difference as your prepared to defend him. The reality is British people are afraid to accept their past and only want to recognise the good which I can understand, but recognising the bad should not bring shame on any because if you own what was wrong it make you stronger and more respected because you have learned. When will Carolyn Bryant get arrested for her part in the torture and murder of Emmett Till ?
We are see history being changed on a daily basis, the BBC are very good at it , you can't make a program without a black actor or documentary that will try to change history .

Joanna Williams did mention Hume but I didn't hear anything about falling donations and the connection to his cancellation. In the description under the video they did state .. 'Joanna Williams discusses the University of Edinburgh seeing its donations fall by almost £2 million after it ‘cancelled’ philosopher David Hume over his slavery links"
Stop this bullshit.
I really wish GB News (and all other channels for that matter) would redesign their sets so that the presenters/guests' bottom halves are not hidden behind desks. I hate wondering what the bottom half of a dress looks like, or weather a jacket has been paired with trousers or a formal skirt.
