$40 million budget? But it looks so cheap, I'd never have guessed that high for it. The cure for death thing really did get glossed over...guess the scriptwriters just didn't think about it.

I lost it at..."why are all the orderlies wresters" lol.
The last two recent Universal Soldier movies were pretty damn good but went to something different, darker and more serious.
Jean-Claude Van Dame, Goldberg and Micheal Jai White! How am I only finding out about this film now!

I just watched John Claude Van Johnson and it is glorious.
Oh no, that Big Bang joke came out of nowhere and fucking killed me. A+ And of course I have to ask the obligatory "Why don't you have more subs" question; but honestly I'm just glad you make consistent work.

Had a huge burst in October but then youtube decided to change things and now I'm back to slow growth. (actually, its even slower than it was before) Hopefully they fix things because the past 2 months have been painful.

Good luck man, we're all rooting for you.
regeneration is my fav of all of them so dark and gritty jcvd brought his hardened face and experience to the role
That sweet jojo reference made me legit laugh out loud.
Yes! You should do an episode on 'Project Shadowchaser 3000'. It had the missing spacecraft idea two years before Event Horizon.
I cannot hear Roundabout anymore without immediately smiling. I watched the credit rolls for every episode of Jojo's just to jam.
I remember watching this movie with my brother back on VHS. When JCVD and the reporter jump in to the truck and then Goldberg jumps and says "AW, SHIT" when he misses, we probably watched that part 50 times. Its still an inside joke for us when one of us messes up. Ah, good times.
I had no idea the Romeo was meant to have been played by Steve Austin, that would have been hysterical lol. Who would have thought that Universal Soldier would have been a series that has three seperate timelines lol

Although quite a spot on joke "The Big Bang Theory" became a little bit of an acquired taste, I guess it would fit better now with "Two Broke Girls". P.D.: I love Kat Dennings but "Two Broke Girls" show is...... let say not very watchable and my reaction is more like the joke you did on the Trancers 2 review.
I discovered your channel late and I've been really enjoying going thru the archives. Your humor is awesome and I love the pacing. You give a lot of fun details about movies without letting it feel long or boring. This one, in particular, made me giggle multiple times. ("Gave him the pimp hand" ROFL). Stay awesome, man.

I love Van Damme and the Universal Soldier movies (The ones with him of course). I've got to go revisit them sometime.
Cecil, I loved this movie. It was a great throwback action movie and Jean-Claude Van Damme was good in the movie.

You should check out Jean Claude Van Johnson. He is terrific in it.
The first movie is total 90s cheese that's a lot of fun. But damn those direct to video sequels by John Hyams are legitimately good action movies. Can't recommend Regeneration and Day of Reckoning enough. Damn fine films.
Your big bang theory joke was perfectly timed as just started on my tv at the same time
Goldberg did more damage here than Survivor Series.

Michael Jai White skills is totally wasted by Hollywood 😞

In another time, Bill Goldberg would have been a good Drax the Destroyer. Judging by his comedic timing in this. I could be totally wrong though.

Respectfully disagree. I don't think Goldberg has any comedic timing. Hes actually about the same age as Bautista, only 3 years older. I give credit to Bautista. He is much better in that role than ever expected.
You have an awesome laughter :-) Keep up the good work!

I usually don't give in to nostalgia much, but this one made me feel cosy and warm like I just shat myself with It.
When this movie was done. My friends and i were chanting "5 MORE MINUTES!!!" *Clap clap clapclapclap* Was so much fun. August of 1999 was such a disappointing time for movies. Sooooooo many bombs. I think that was the peak of VHS rentals.
Nice Black Dynamite tag there.

Seeing all these reviews is reminding me of when I was about 12 and also ruining that experience a little bit haha. My grandad had just a whole shed full of VHS tapes and I would scour it for hours finding what I thought were the most action filled and violent ones then watch them whenever I knew my mum or dad wouldn't catch me. But yeah ruining because my mind made all these films great, but seeing the reviews makes me realise that most of them are not so good

I like all of The Universal Soldiers Franchise!
Point of fact, 10 feet is point blank range. Point blank range is close enough that the drop of the bullet relative to the shooter is not a concern.
I was watching making of Citizen Toxie, and the stunt man kept saying threat of actor getting goes 'geometricly' the more theydo.
Ever notice that the scene were 4 UniSols stand outside the building shooting everything is very close to a scene in From Dusk Till Dawn 2, where 4 vampires stand outside a building and shoot everything?
I came here in hopes of a lot of references to Black Dynamite. You did not disappoint, as always :) Also: the Roundabout-insert was freaking perfect.

plz plz dog soldiers, such an under rated movie with epic horror comedy :D i think it would fit so good in this series. And im sure u would probably come upp with some funny jokes in there too XD
"Geometric expansion" is a thing. Look at geometric sequences.
The best thing about this movie was the soundtrack. Seriously, there is a song named "Chaos" and I love it.

I am soooo curious what anime was on the background of squib's scenes. looks soo familiar.
Fun fact: I never saw this movie but for some reason I had the soundtrack on CD and listened to it all the time.
I immediately hit the like button after the Big Bang Theory joke... LOL
The thickest nek hahaha... great vid.
"The boat wants to be a car," BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
"Geometrically, not exponentially?" Yes, because apparently Seth is the only movie character in over a hundred years of humans making films to have ever used those terms properly.
I grew up with Universal Soldier, I was fortunate enough to be able to watch them in release order. When I was younger I would always try to head-canon the movies from 1 to Return together. None of them are as good as the original, but I would say 1 and Regeneration are the two best, with the Pilot movies being the worst. All of them have some enjoyment in them, you may have to look for it, but it's there.
The "He's not a Unisol anymore" plot point is a classic case of bad writing not thinking things through. Not just the "doesn't that mean they CURED DEATH?!?" plothole, but the entire emotional core of the first film (inasmuch as it has one) is centered around the fact that Luke Deveraux is dead, and his fight to reclaim whatever remains of his life. It's like if RoboCop 2 had come up with some handwave to put Alex Murphy back in a fully human body instead of his tortured half-life as RoboCop. Craps all over the entire point of first film. Moreover, as its repeatedly stated Luke isn't as strong, fast, or tough as the actual Unisols anymore, it gets increasingly unbelievable that they continually fail to stop him, and that the supposedly "Super Unisol SETH" is barely more than a slightly-more-difficult Boss Fight compared to handling multiple basic Unisols. Making the hero the underdog is one thing, but making the supposedly-badass badguys utter incompetents the second they get within ten feet of the hero is just bad. And you still could have kept Luke a Unisol AND had him be the underdog: instead of the bare-bones exposition that Luke isn't a Unisol anymore (which makes no sense), put in exposition that these are "Mark II" Unisols who are superior, and SETH Super-Unisol is even more advanced, but Luke's experiences in the first film have fully restored his memories and humanity, so in the spiritual sense, he lives again, but still has Unisol superpowers. That's called having your cake and eating it too. Sometimes it *is* possible.
Cecil made a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure reference in this episode. Nice.

Universal Soldier: Regeneration and Day of Reckoning are great movies, the action is exceptionally well filmed and choreographed, I'd be interested in your thoughts on those two movies
Remember video games with Real Player style vignettes? Holy Shit, I couldn't stand going online in the late 90s!! I had little patience, and only access to a shitty dial up.
