This was so helpful. You actually got on the roof and off the roof. It's insane how many videos talk about doing this and end right before doing it. Thanks!

I thought these ladder use videos were never supposed to show anyone actually getting on the roof. We're supposed to see someone climb halfway up their ladder, talk for 4 minutes then descend.

I just wanted to add a few things I learned from watching other ladder videos: 1. When climbing up/down a ladder you should hold the rungs not the sides of the ladder. That way if your feet slips off the ladder your hands with stop you from falling. 2. If possible, secure the top of the ladder to the roof so it does not slide off.

One thing that is extremely important that was not mentioned was the center of gravity while transitioning off and on. I once almost kicked over a 24 ft ladder because I was green and didn’t know what I was doing. It’s very important to shift the foot that is staying on the ladder while you’re transitioning to the center of the rung. It may seem obvious but it wasn’t to me until I felt that ladder kicking out.

Great video. I have a customer that has a Little Giant and needs a skylight cleaned. You demonstrate very clearly how to extend and work the locking mechanisms and how to place the ladder for safety. I'm familiar with using older double-rung style aluminum and fiberglass extension ladders, these Little Giant ladders are something new. Thank you for your help!

Portable Ladder Safety. Falls from portable ladders (step, straight, combination and extension) are one of the leading causes of occupational fatalities and injuries. ... Always maintain a 3-point (two hands and a foot, or two feet and a hand) contact on the ladder when climbing.

Thanks for this. I’m a middle aged lady partly restoring an old house. Your video is so helpful. I have no idea how to use DIY equipment safely, I actually bought the WRONG ladder. . Anyway, Thanks to your video and many other old guys/young guys Makin instructional videos. We are a lot safer. And note, there’s no way way I’m ever goin to attempt electric saws. I know my personal limits!

Brilliant ! Entire techniques of going up the ladder, how to get onto the roof and how to leave et the roof and get onto the ladder for the trip down the ladder. No one has proper video covering all of this even the PBS series ‘This Old House’! Guess those Bostonians never go on a roof. By the way my take on leaving the roof was tone with my back to the ladder holding on to top of ladder with my closest hand and moving closest foot to the opposite side rung but that doesn’t have 3 point contact. Thanks

You should be grabbing the rungs in the middle of ladder when climbing always. If your feet fall out and your holding the side your gonna slip. Also when getting back onto ladder you should always hold rungs not side of ladder.

Nice video however ... you did not mention most important procedure to set min. Max angle. That accounts for many accidents, Also there the procedure you described to “ hang on “ is the 3point of contact “ either I hand two feet or 2 hands 1 foot and so on.

I don't know man. Seems like you flubbed at the most dangerous part. Didn't feel right at all. You can even hear the ladder creak loudly. 6:25 A heavier guy or someone who puts more pressure on the left hand or a slippery surface where the ladder means the roof and that latter is sliding left and you're off the roof! Seems like you should keep hold in the middle of the rung and not use the latter top edge like that.
