I have the Apollo 8p. Not sure is it’s a quart or had 8 of the processors for plug ins. I think I’m doing something wrong because the DSP gets overwhelmed way too easy. With just a few plug ins. I am thinking about getting the twin quad for touring to track in hotel rooms. The rack mount takes up a lot of space. Could I use the twin quad with daisy chained 8p to give me more plug in power the same as the external satellite quad would? Great video. Fowling for sure. 🙏🏼🤝

I just made a upgrade to my studio. I bought the apollo twin x quad, presonus sceptre s6, faderport 16 and the sonarworks sound id ref with the mic. One of the main reasons why I wanted the apollo was for the manley voxbox. For days it was in a discount so I thought I buy the apollo because at this moment it gives you a ton of free plugins. And the plan was to buy the select three plugin deal for half the price. I wanted the Voxbox, neve preamp and the studer A800 But delivery took so long that now the deal at uad is over. And you can only purchase the plugins after you register the hardware. My heart is broken. Now i have to wait until a new deal comes from uad.

What about live DSP monitoring in a live setting not studio. Say. 2 vocal chains, 2 guitar chains, 1 synth chain, and a few sends in the box. Still latency worries or no? Can this replace a lot of our live hardware for in the box?

Satellites are just boxed PCIE cards with a specific interface (TB 1, 2, or 3, or USB) FireWire is also available but not supported on Apple Silicon. You can mix and match Satellites with the exception of FireWire. That means you can have an Apollo 8 (TB 2), an X6, and an Octo Satellite daisy chained with appropriate cable adapters, on the same bus. The TB2 (or even TB 1 which was standard on the original Silver Face Apollos) has enough bandwidth so there will not be a slowdown for the TB3 units. The one caveat is that you cannot mix USB and Thunderbolt UA hardware. Also, USB is only compatible with Windows. There are no drivers for Mac OS.

Sorry, Dave. You are incorrect. The UAD2 Satellites are unable to add ultra low latency DSP for recording the way that Apollos use their built in DSP. However, after tracking, you can transfer the DSP load from the Apollo’s DSP that was used while tracking to the Satellite. That frees up the Apollo’s internal DSP for more tracking. Also, all of the rack model Apollos (X6, X8, X8P, X16) have 6 SHARC chips. The number in the models refers to the I/O count. And the X16 has no preamps. Just A/D and D/A.

It's awesome stuff, but the thing is... it's,way too expensive for most "homestudio's". It's called homerecording for a reason. UA devices are pro priced, unless you have no family and no life whatsoever, you can maybe buy stuff like that. But if you're not making any amount of money with producing or mixing, then it's like buying a Bugatti Veyron to do groceries or just ride around the block once in a while. Just my two cents though... I think more people would benefit from reviews of consumer products like Presonus or Focusrite. I know you did that too, and I know there are people who will buy a 3000 dollar interface for just recording their demo music.. no offense though.

No offense taken my friend. I just would say that the first half of your comment is a very short sided way of looking at it but everyones budget is different and I can tell you that many, many, many home studios have this same set up and not all those people are "rich" with no families. My channel is not about reviewing budget gear. I show my audience what I have and what i use on a daily basis. However, as you mentioned I have done many, many videos on entry level budget gear so there is something for everyone.
