💬 Unity 6 Preview is out right now!
This is important because this version is feature complete compared to the upcoming LTS version.
Meaning if you, like me, tend to avoid the beta versions, then now is the time to explore all of these awesome new features.
I was also waiting for this version for one specific reason. People have been asking me to do a complete game DOTS course for ages, in order to make it up to date for as long as possible I was waiting for Unity 6, so I've started now researching for it.

And keep in mind that if you use version bellow Unity 6, you need to buy pro plan after $100k earned from all games/apps if they're made with Unity within last 12 months, with Unity 6 and later versions it's $200k. Maybe there is a catch, but we won't know until official release or later ToS updates.

I so wish they would remove the runtime fee. Even though I know it seemingly by now is not a big issue the way it's structured is somehow chilling. They should do it for business reasons also in my opinion because in my region the number of jobs for a Unity dev position has significantly decreased! There are much much more jobs as for Unreal dev position instead. Much more than previously, and given that there are significantly more Unity devs than Unreal devs makes whole situation even more arduous! I've finally got a new job after group lay-offs and I've got it as Unreal dev which is crazy because I have significantly more experience and skills in Unity :) That said, I am excited on Code Monkey's more advance take on DOTS - it's my favorite thing in Unity!

I’ve been learning dots, and never understood how for example to do a turn base game, when you move and then you trigger some event ao the npc calculates the path to find you. Probably not the best example, but trying to understand if for these kind of games, if dots still makes sense. Another cool example, your strategy game course, do you think dots would be useful for example? Thanks!

DOTS, or Data Oriented Design in general, can always be a great valid option even if your goal isn't massive performance. It's just a different way of thinking, which may or may not work better for your use case. I'm very curious to build this game myself exactly for that reason, I've never done any complete games with a data oriented design so I'm curious to see if I'm going to love or hate it. Also remember how you don't have to go 100% DOTS or 100% GameObjects, you can mix them. So for example you can use normal GameObjects for most of your code, and make your pathfinding algorithm work with DOTS to make it super fast.

Just for contrast: xiaomi made cheap affordable smart phone as hence is now only a cheap chinese mobile manufacturer even tho their flagships are kind of good.
