UNITED: The Path to Glory
Спорт
Manchester United waited 26 years to finally get their hands on the Premier League title, but they have never looked back since.
Watch how Alex Ferguson went through the rough process of building and rebuilding a struggling United team in the late 80's which managed to dominate English Football for years to come until they achieved a historic treble in 1999.

I was born in '76. Alex came in '86 and I was ten. For the next 26 years of my life, me and Man U were consistently linked in my memories. I remember so much because Man U were good then. The years highlighted in this brilliant video I remember as me growing up from a boy, to teenager, to an adult. Maybe that is why it is so vivid. I remember all the big games, where I was, what I was doing and at what point in my life I was at. I don't care that Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool are now the dominant forces (although Man U have just beaten leaders Arsenal 3 - 1, 4th September 2022) so hopefully Eric "Gimme" Ten Hag can bring back some stability and hope. Things change, as they always do in life. I was just glad I lived through this era, as all fans would. My Dad, who left us in Feb 2020 (thankfully, pre-covid nonsense) was always the 1st one to back Fergie during any so called "crisis". How Fergie, even at the start, was considered in "crisis" is beyond me. Any real fan could see what he was doing and the improvement. The man was a genius and these people come around, but, once in a generation. I remember watching on the Saturday 1995 when Alan Hansen said his quote, "You win nothing with kids!". Apparently, Fergie posted that on the home changing room and anywhere the players would see it. They said it was one of the biggest motivating factors in the 1st Double. I always meant to send Alan a bottle of whiskey that year :)

Always remember that commentary "SHERINGHAM, AND SOLSKJAER HAS WON IT" And to think some fans were desperate to get rid of Fergie just 9-10 years before it. Horrible to say this but we will never see another United manager quite like the boss again. The man is a legend and no words can do him justice. ❤️

This shows how tough a job Alex Ferguson had to deal with and what a miracle he did. How fans quickly asked for him to be dismissed twice during his tenure. As a Man.utd fan, am so happy we don't get to choose. Shows how some patience does pay off.
this finale was so brutal. well made documentary.
I don't think you gave enough emphasis on how huge the semi final vs Dortmund was in 1997, United would play Juventus a team that they felt they could match, both physically and tactically... It was basically the biggest chance for United and Cantona to win a European Cup. Cantona's retirement was coz he knew that a complete rebuild without him would result in them doing well in Europe again, as great as 99 was, Man Utd were underdogs in their group, underdogs vs Juventus and a miracle gave them the win in the final, 97 was different, they were actually good enough to win it, but the united team itself didn't have enough of a supporting cast to help Cantona. That's why he announced retirement IMMEDIATELY after that semi final defeat. Also the amount of choking Juventus were doing in the mid to late 90s is insane, they should've won the European Cup from 1996-1999 (They were THAT good)... Choked 2 finals and choked a home semi
@balon-english

You could say that about various different events throughout the episode, the problem is in writing it could be tricky to give more emphasis on that within the context of the whole video. If I wanted to give emphasis to everything then the episode would be 2 hours long 😅. But I absolutely get your point 👍🏼 I have an episode about Juve covering the period you talked about 👍🏼

I went to Fergie’s first game as manager of United, against Oxford in 1986. We lost 2-0. I didn’t think that we would go on to do what we did that day. I was also at Ron Atkinson’s last game at United. A 4-1 defeat at Southampton. It would get worse before it got better. We were crap in the late 80’s. No matter how many times I see that Bergkamp pen I still expect him to score even though I no he misses it. Amazing video. 👏
Froze the screen at 07:50 and the wording was exactly right; it made him. I saw a documentary with Martin Edwards, made by an independent supporters channel. Edwards said that they weren’t going to sack him if he lost the Forest game, but if he kept on losing week after week then obviously they might have to, which was reasonable enough, given the circumstances at the time. A few years earlier and Howard Kendall had been in the exact same position in 1984, during his first spell as the Everton manager; there was talk about sacking him if Everton lost a replay in one of the cups against Oxford. They won 4-1, reaching both domestic Cup Finals that year; winning the FA Cup and then winning the old First Division and Cup Winners Cup the following season and the First Division again in 1987. What a thin margin it is between success and failure ... if either of these managers had lost those vital cup ties, who knows how sporting history might have looked in England over the next 40 years?
@mrkipling2201
3 ай бұрын
Everton played Coventry in a First Division game at Goodison Park in December 1983. It was 0-0 and there was only 13,000 odd in attendance. Everton were booed off at full time. That's what Everton fans view as the rock bottom of that era for them. You are spot on, Everton got a 1-1 draw in the league Cup, thanks to a late equaliser from Adrian Heath. They won the replay and took off from that point. The next 3 years would be the best in their history, with their best team.
@oleggorky906

@@mrkipling2201 Thanks. Always nice to receive validation from someone who knows and remembers, whichever team they support. Facts are facts. Everton were playing some good stuff and they would have been in with a genuine chance of winning the European Cup/ C. L. @@Dante--X yeah... always so myopic. It's always 'United fans' isn't it? Sorry but I'm equating it to the two drawn group matches (during the away match to Bayern, Elber's first goal was bewilderingly allowed despite his clear offside), where both teams were very evenly matched, unlike the final. Sorry, but most people aware of football know that leaving Bayern aside for an moment, much of United's struggle in that game was down to them missing Keane and Scholes, two huge players for them in Europe that season! It's not 'blind' to suggest that.
