United’s Least Used Aircraft: The Boeing 767-400ER
The Boeing 767-400ER is United Airlines’ least used aircraft this year after a handful of planes came out of long-term storage in time for the summer season. This move was partially due to the grounding of some Boeing 777-200s. On United’s list of least used aircraft, the 767-400ER comes out on top, but is followed by the 737 MAX 8, 787-8, CRJ-700, and 787-10. Let’s take a look at where the 767-400ER is flying these days.

"pleasant 2-3-2 layout" hits the nail on the head. 4 out of 7 seats are on an aisle, and the other 3 seats only have to scoot past one seat to reach an aisle. I wish this layout were more common: it makes long flights so much more pleasant.

A330 kinda exceeds this with a 2-4-2. 767 is still more intimate and cozy like the 757.
The 2-3-2 seating arrangement of the 767 has always been my favorite, especially flying to overseas destinations.

I flew on two these in 2018 from EWR-CDG and MUC-IAD. I thought it was a great aircraft, United does a good job keeping the interior modern in these aircrafts.
It's my favorite 767 type and yes I flew on it from Amdsterdam to Houston and back in October 2010.
Fun Fact: Only 2 airlines used the 767-400’s, which are United (Continental) using 16 and Delta using 21
The low usage is related to all of the international flight restrictions. With those easing up now, you can expect the 400 to resume many international markets primarily out of EWR and IAD

Yeah my flight to Rome will be on a 400 out off iAd
I flew on Continental 767-400ER from IAH to LAX back in 2003. To date the best and the smoothest aircraft I ever been on.
0:46 Average age: 20.2 Years!!(typo)
As a retired Ua/Co flight attendant this is one of my favorite in the fleet! Spacious galleys and very easy to work! excellent video by the way!
Error at 0:45. Reads "Average age 2 years". The 767-400ERs were delivered to Continental between 2000 and 2002 (4 in 2000, 2 in 2001, 10 in 2002).

Have flown on a UA 764 on it's MUC-EWR operations back in 2019....and to be honest I did like the experience of flying on an ex Continental aircraft, even though next time I would probably choose the 787 again for outbound UA flights out of Munich heading towards the United States because of better quality products on board as well as a smoother flight itself.
my absolute favorite commute from ewr to Copenhagen via wherever. Loved that single seat middle row !

When you have decent seating capacity and nice range, but are overshadowed by 777s and 737s: *DJ Khaled: Suffering from Success*
Used to fly this aircraft on delta to Hawaii monthly after the changed to this from the L-1011. It’s great plane but to densely packed.
I had the pleasure of flying this aircraft from EWR to BCN, barely two weeks ago on a two stop journey from YVR via SFO. While the Polaris product on the 763 and 788 was better the food on all the flights was amazing. I will say I can say nothing but zzzzz on the topic of thr 764 flight.
Just flew this from London to Dulles beginning of a November. Was a great flight and comfortable.
These birds are slated to be upgraded with the new Polaris product soon and to be painted as well. I had the pleasure of working this plane during 2019 at ORD and sad to say it's age really shows on the inside.
Flew on one back in 2018 from Ams to Ewr. Great plane
I’ve flown in that aircraft a few times. It’s a very reliable airplane that rarely has maintenance issues. None that I have experienced flying on it. Quiet cabin with plenty of video entertainment to past the time away while enjoying the great service
My ride on this planet was a confusing one. We were supposed to fly a Dreamliner, but suddenly, the plane was swapped for a 767-400ER. Wasn't a bad plane.
The 767-400er is almost the Same size as the 777-200
@robbieshaft
2 жыл бұрын
Yes almost, but completely different MTOW limits and because of that the thrust on the 777 is a lot higher than the 767
I am flying it in November. Looking forward to it.
Beautiful plane, almost perfect 2-3-2 configuration. Ideal for a NEO. 👌
What was the reason behind CO buying the 764-ER? That would be even more interesting to look at.
Lovely airplane ✈ 💜
Imagine how interesting it would be if United retrofits their 767-400s with GENX-2B engines from the 747-8 to test out the possibility of a 767X
I'm flying Dublin to Newark this coming Thursday on 767-400 really looking forward to it, it replaced the 787 on this route
I flew the United 767-400 from Newark to Houston in May and again in October from Newark to San Juan both times in business. It’s surely an interesting aircraft but the fact it doesn’t feature the new Polaris seats makes it less enjoyable than other widebodies in United’s fleet. I’ve flown in United’s -300er in economy and I must say the 2-3-2 economy is my favorite economy configuration of any plane. In the last two rows of all United 767s the A and B seats are crew rest seats which are sold as economy plus on domestic flights, they are arguably better than United Premium Plus and if you get the opportunity to fly a UAL 767 I would definitely recommend choosing one of these seats (although they only open 24-48hrs prior to departure)
Not United, but I remember flying in a 767-400 ER with Delta a couple of years ago from Las Vegas to Atlanta. It was comfortable, and the service was as usual.
If you are in coach, only one middle seat in each row.. so if you flying Non Revenue this is a big deal on night flights to Europe and South America.great plane.
I went on a 767 United to New York in 2019 I can't remember if it was 400ER though. I flew to Newark aswell.
When I had nonrev privileges on Continental I took the EWR-HNL flight several times on DC-10s. A lot of time flying just because I could. Vegas - Newark - Honolulu - Newark - Vegas. Only spent 5 hours on the ground each time because I didn't want to pay for room.
Nice machine ✈️

Wendover Productions has a video on business travel
I'm watching this video on Sat 20th Nov '21 and right now there are 8 United 764s in the sky (5 of them incoming from Europe), so it looks like the situation is changing fast.
Had United remained Continental and had Continental remained with Skyteam, absolutely!! Most definitely. But fortunately Delta has some 767-400ers🙂🙂🤗.
Very interesting rare widebody aircraft
I think Delta still has this type aircraft flying in their fleet currently. I have flown one before in Business and it was a comfortable plane.

I've flown the IAH-HNL-GUM-MNL R/T quite a number of times over the past ten years. It's my least favorite way to fly to Asia because UA treats it as one big domestic flight BUT with International upgrades - on old metal. This means that while you would have typically gotten an automatic upgrade if it were a "non-international" domestic flight, you have to bid with money & miles for the upgrade. Then, there's the fact that all the 738s operating out of GUM are from the CO era - meaning they're the oldest in the fleet, and look that way. But the MNL-GUM flight is only about 3.5 hours long, so it's shorter than IAD-LAX.
FYI...You said the avg. age of the aircraft was 20.2yrs old, however the illustration on the screen says 2yrs, not 20.2. Still enjoyed the vid as always though & look fwd to the next 1. 😉✌️
Flew on a 767-200 LAX-BWI-LAX on US Airways in 1988
I’ve flown on a UA 764 from Houston to Newark.
Cool
Love flying in first on this plane.
I’m actually headed to Barcelona this summer on this aircraft, nice to learn and fly on one! EDIT: They switched our flight now im in the new polaris class so i wont be flying on this one but still cool!
Then engines look so small in B-767-400.

Where do you get this information? Best plane in the world for economy passenger comfort. Only one middle seat
Never flew it but I see them every day here in HNL. DL also uses theirs sometimes on their ATL, DTW and MSP runs. I can’t stand the almost all Airbus fleet DL has chosen. I wonder if either will be converted to cargo aircraft

B767, with the most sexiest forward tilting gear in aviation!
Appreciate if someone can comment. I fly to Spain (Madrid) often. I stopped using United and opted for Lufthansa because at the time (4 years ago) the upkeep was terrible. Torn curtains that desperately need to be replaces, pieces falling off in cabin and the flight attendant sleep area taking the best seats in economy +. Has this changed? I was woke up several times at night with flight attendants getting up and then continually bumping my seat. This took place on three separate flights. Please comment. I am flying over this month and can fly eith Luf or U. It is just that I can be upgraded possibly on United. TY
Its good 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Surprisingly it’s a great deal better than the Legacy UA 777’s- or the Ghetto Birds as they’re fondly recognized as. Yes- I’ve flown both the 764-ER and Legacy UA’s 772’s and I’ll take the former any day- even in coach…. It seems CO cared a little more about customer comfort and managed to at least provide seatback entertainment vs UA’s mini over head screens…. And it was so great that all seats were equipped with it.
Stunning aircraft…Been on one many times and found it extremely comfortable. Nice when travelling with a partner and have nobody sitting next you.
We flew this into Honolulu on 2017 for our moneypoon.
I thought they still flew it to Zurich. Swore I saw it there this year, unless it was a -300 variant z
