This Sony Experia 1V is amazing. I think the cameras are the best! maybe not automodes but if you use the pro mode and know what you are doing than the Sony is definitely the best on the market. Also 4k display front facing speakers they really nailed it. I just wish they would make a pro and pro plus variant like the iPhone and Samsung. because if you compare this with the iPhone .. pro plus then I just miss the Sony which is just as big as the normal pro. also I hope they're going to go for titanium sides

Danke!

i have an xperia 5 II, i like the size and the form factor, the rectangular screen with facing speakers, the notification led, i sometimes use the mini jack or the BT, the classic photo button on the side , i dont use the SDcard much as i save regulary on my PC (but a sd card is cheap when other phones will charge u a lot for 128Go more), pictures and vid. despite all those generation improvements, sony phones lack the usual point and shoot photos qual/processing of the other phones, i use the photo pro in auto mode mainly, sometimes i use the more advances mode but it takes time (landscape, or things where u can take some time to set up), they should work on the everyday photo shoots while keeping the advanced mode. the xperia 1 is a bit too big for me (hence the 5) i usually keep my phones 5 years, so i will wait and look forward for a sony xperia VII (mainly cam improvement and may be android update, the phone is not slowing down)

Modern Xperias feature their X1 engine from their bravia TVs, which sharpens and saturates videos using AI. I personally never use it because it just takes away from how the content was meant to be watched, but you do you. I'd never artificially add saturation or contrast to what I'm watching because it just makes it worse and ends up clipping colours and shades since you remove the professionally controlled aspect of it.

Thanks for the review, well balanced. For Sony smartphones it's the old story that repeats itself over and over again: great hardware but mediocre software. I would love to buy a Sony Smartphone, I love my Sony camera . But Sony simply lacks the know-how or willingness of software development for smartphones, both OS and cameras. Even the best hardware doesn't help, a small smartphone sensor simply can't produce the same images as an DSLR camera without software magic. And only three years of updates at this price is not acceptable. They should at least offer five years of security updates.
@kornar
Жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong. Sony smartphones are loaded with features, especially for professional photographers and filmmakers. And you can get a lot out of the sensors in post-processing. But the target group is so small and excludes even prosumers that I am worried that this concept will be sustainable for a long time. Even for an amateur photographer like me, the problem is that I would be able to rework the photos afterwards. But I have two children and take dozens of photos of them. And I sometimes send them to relatives via WhatsApp. Or post photos of a trip or cars, landscapes on social media. I don't want to have to touch up every photo to show it or send it. Sometimes I just want a point-and-shoot camera like in the iPhone or Google Pixel.
@anecro

As an owner all you have to do to get great auto pictures is go into programme auto in the photo pro app and set the EV to -1. Then switch off or on the HDR depending on your scene. This entire auto mode "problem" is blown way out of proportion, the only problem it has is clipping highlights. The 1 V's version of photo pro has an over-exposure issue currently that's been widely reported. Plus, if you're taking pictures of kids wouldn't an Xperia's eye, face and object AF help way more than whatever the other brands are offering? On top of the 20/30fps burst mode and their crazy colour science?
@sjococo
Жыл бұрын
@@kornar I do not even post process photos shot with my old Sony DSLR... And with the 1 V you do not have to do that either. Most of your relatives wouldn't even notice the difference... But a good photo that is well exposed with a camera that produces consistent metering and thus same results time after time is so great to have. Go shoot in aperture priority and forget auto mode. Change to shutter priority when dealing with fast movement. Results will be so much better than auto mode.

In my opinion your comment is totally wrong. I used many android. But I feel peace only in sony. Xperia are the fastest android and smoothest after ios. Their OS is so light and elegant. Their only problem is marketing and product availability after announcement. Accessories is also an issue. That is why I moved to IOS and feels like best decision I ever made. It is more than using smartphone. It is a lifestyle. Apple really can feel the customers.

Good review, as I always say I like _Sony_ but I would rather listen to customers and not take out these phones with their arrogance of believing themselves the best. I like their cameras and both photography and video recording is very good but there are times when the colors are somewhat artificial. Something I would also like is that from _Sony_ pay more attention to accessories such as cases, tripod mounts and external batteries.
@Sabundy
Жыл бұрын
I am baffled by this comment. If anything Sony barely hypes anything about their phones. Are you seriously comparing the almost non-existent hype Sony does on their phones to MASSIVE levels of hype Apple or Samsung do? They both spend billions telling everyone they are "the best". And i am sorry....but artificial colours????? Sony phone shave hands down the most natural colours. Compared to an iphone or a Galaxy with their super saturated colours??? I cannot take that claim seriously.
@anecro
Жыл бұрын
Sony never say anything close to that, what? Can you provide an example? They are the flattest, most stoic smartphone company I've seen, they present their new technology to you in a very matter of fact way in extremely clean and simplistic videos. Go figure and compare them to a company like Samsung, you're just wrong on that one. And no, they never produce artificial results. Been an owner of a 5 III for half a year now. This is straight up false and there's a reason why nobody brings something like that up, they consistently produce the most natural and faithful colours out there. You can't even begin to say that when any other smartphone besides Xperias goes the artificial route. If you're used to an IPhone's green and yellow white balance or a Google pixel's desaturated colours besides orange and blue, sure, they'll look wrong to you. But I'm assuring you, as someone who takes pictures and goes back and forth from the real scene to the photograph and as an artist who's been drawing for years, they're the most accurate devices I've ever used as far as colour is concerned. The only example I can think of them missing is during night scenes with multiple different light sources, in which case literally every single smartphone out right now over-corrects in the auto mode for the orange of street lamps, turning them yellow.
@Sabundy
Жыл бұрын
@@anecro So basically your complaint is that they don't brag, lie, and hype themselves. Thus they are "flat", "boring" and "matter of fact". That just means you like loud, flashy marketing. That is just your taste. You are literally stating your taste. Not fact. And really? Examples?......good grief ....where do you want to start? Apple's ridiculous claim that it's "pro" phones are at the level of pro equipment and can be used by pros. Despite having no headphone jack, swappable memory, manual controls etc.....all things quite important to actual pros. Or when they claimed their computer monitors were on par with the Sony reference monitor that is used by the film and TV industry to judge colour accuracy. AV experts ripped that claim apart with one on one comparisons showing it to be completely false. That's just two off the top of my head. Either way your completely ridiculous and false claim that Sony does that ....or uniquely does it.....but Apple and Samsung don't is a blatantly false statement. Either you are intellectually dishonest. Or you are not very bright. And....Iphones and Galaxy's have the most accurate colours 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. You must be a photographer that's never used an actual camera in your life. Just compare to Canon or Fujifilm colour science. Ok...as an actual photographer.....I can't take you seriously. You have no idea what you are talking about. Thanks for the laugh.

Sorry @@Sabundy For the waste of time, I imagine that you have nothing to do and that is why you release bile towards me for telling the truth. That _Sony_ does not launch hype? Seriously? And those videos that say the next Gen mobile is coming? And you don't fool me, I'm writing from a _Xperia _*_XZ2_* so I know very well what I'm talking about. Just look at the photos taken with _Samsung_ or with _iPhone_ or even _Xiaomi_ to realize it. There is no more blind than one who does not want to see. If you are a poor *fanboy* there is not much more to say.

On paper, this destroys every phone. In practice, it is another iterative update from the Mark II (my current phone) with a lot of the same issues. This is the most balanced review I've seen, truly covering every aspect, not just obsessing over the manual camera apps. I'm not a pro photographer or videographer, i just want everything to work when I need it to. It's unfortunate they still throttle even though it doesn't overheat as easily, first review I've heard to say that. No LTPO seems like a huge miss - its 4K 120 always, that wastes so much battery. I assume it still gets burn-in over time. The zoom lens seems even worse somehow! Those photos were unusable. No charge cable in the box? They use "environment" as an excuse to be cheap. I prefer using official charge cables as performance is usually better. They do vary. For example I've heard of Nintendo Switches getting fried by incompatible charge cables. This phone model is 5 years old now and it all seems dated and unnecessary. They keep duct taping things on. The bezels should be gone, a holepunch is going to be much less noticeable on this phone than any other due to the 21:9. For most content, the holepunch will be out of the way in the black letterbox bars anyway. The SD card is unnecessary since most phones are 256GB or 512GB now, and in fact my current reader is malfunctioning, I assume this is the same one. My microphone for calls completely failed, I have to use headphones. That is the only reason I ever use headphones, so I don't need the jack. I would prefer symmetrical, identical speakers which this doesn't have. It's also not loud enough still. I use the camera button to launch the app but otherwise I have issues with how it works. It focuses on the center and also strangely messes up the color profile. So I can use any button for launching the app. All the unique hardware features Sony is doing are unnecessary and obsolete, at least for me. This is not hating, this is real experiences from a real user for years, and I'm fed up. I could go on and on, but I will wave goodbye unless Sony does a drastic redesign and rethink to their strategy, to make it more practical for the average consumer and more streamlined throughout.

Danke!
Phon runs 1080p + all the time except when recognise 4k content, than it switch to 4k.
Masterpiece!
Just ordered mine and hopefully it comes next week.

Heeft de xperia 1 V geen rood/groen lampje tijdens het opladen?
i have an xperia 5 II, i like the size and the form factor, the rectangular screen with facing speakers, the notification led, i sometimes use the mini jack or the BT, the classic photo button on the side , i dont use the SDcard much as i save regulary on my PC (but a sd card is cheap when other phones will charge u a lot for 128Go more), pictures and vid. despite all those generation improvements, sony phones lack the usual point and shoot photos qual/processing of the other phones, i use the photo pro in auto mode mainly, sometimes i use the more advances mode but it takes time (landscape, or things where u can take some time to set up), they should work on the everyday photo shoots while keeping the advanced mode. the xperia 1 is a bit too big for me (hence the 5) i usually keep my phones 5 years, so i will wait and look forward for a sony xperia VII (mainly cam improvement and may be android update, the phone is not slowing down)
Would anyone tell me if its worth buying Xperia 1 mark ii right now in 2023 at $290?
At $1,400 a charger and case should be included with the phone along with the pre order free headphones or ear buds. Sony should also put back super-vivid mode. Movies and pictures do not look as good as they do on my XZ3.

Asus also still provides a headphone jack, not just Sony

Can someone who knows tell me is there a second space on this phone?

Thanks for the review, well balanced. For Sony smartphones it's the old story that repeats itself over and over again: great hardware but mediocre software. I would love to buy a Sony Smartphone, I love my Sony camera . But Sony simply lacks the know-how or willingness of software development for smartphones, both OS and cameras. Even the best hardware doesn't help, a small smartphone sensor simply can't produce the same images as an DSLR camera without software magic. And only three years of updates at this price is not acceptable. They should at least offer five years of security updates.

@sjococo

Sony master of electronics
King for 2023-2024.
Sony Xperia 1 v not beat than any all brand, model smartphone now, new new king 👑 Sony
Still not giving as much as Samsung. The screen really interested me but not enough - design is like alcatel idol 4 with dual speakers, not bad. 23 Ultra remains the king as Android to me, tho.
asus also has headphone jack
Mean while I am watching this video in android king s23 ultra
And this is the reason I'll not be updating from my Xperia 1iv to the 1V just simply not enough to justify yet another £1299.
I wish this was in the €900-1000 range. Many would have bought it. The 10V, on the other hand, is not worth the money.
Great conclusion. Returned Xperia 1 iv because of its horrible low light performance and if ultra-wide and telephoto lens are not improved it doesn't make any better. May be next iteration.

@anecro
@Sabundy

0:43 almost spit my drink laughing at those ugly camera modules compared to a simple one like the xperia 1 v 😂

Nice bait, troll. First of all, the Xperia 1 II was released in 2020, it's barely 3 years old. It sounds like you don't even own the device because what you said didn't even make sense, you're spouting bullshit.
I recently received mine and I am very disappointed by the display. It looks very washed out and reds and yellows are clearly not color accurate. I also notice audible coil whine when the camera app is on.
It's my dream phone! 😔 Sadly way too expensive for me! Waiting for the 5 mark 5...
Superb coverage. Sony never quite seem to make the mark with their phones. My first smartphone was the Xperia Z3 and I adored that phone, ever since then its been a very slippery slope. There are simply better, all round phones for far less money. My current phone, the Pixel 7 Pro being one of them.
